    nice, thanks for the post.

just curious though… seeing as google has their official keyboard in the store for free, what's the selling point of this one?

    • SwiftKey can predict what you're going to type next based on what you've previously typed, making it easy to just click once to add whole words as you use it more.

Personally, I prefer the layout to Google's official keyboard, and it can be skinned in a few ways that make it more interesting.

It also has swipe features similar to Swype, I don't really use that though so I can't comment on that.

Overall, I think it's a great keyboard upgrade to any Android phone. I'm usually a fan of keeping things stock, but in this case I really do think it will save you time.

    • It imports your data from gmail, fb, twitter, sms and uses that to predict what you want to type, based on imported sentences and phrases… also learns the more you use the keyboard.

Thanks for the tip. I'm new to Android and didn't know swipe typing was built in. Trying it out and it's definitely very nice :)

and google it with swift key , you will find more

Excellent keyboard but I just thought I should share my experience.

In my opinion, SwiftKey is the best keyboard if you thumb-type in the traditional way as it predicts the next word with an uncanny ability. However, if you like to 'swipe' your finger to type, the I think Swype is actually better for three reasons.
    1) I find the prediction of Swype better when actually swyping.
    2) when going back to correct a word while using Swype, there are more suggestions offered (e.g 6-7) compared to SwiftKey (only 3, I believe).
    3) Even if a word in a sentence is typed wrong with Swype, an orange line appears under the word and when you tap on it, the suggestion list above the keyboard usually guesses what should have been typed accurately.

Just my thoughts on the two keyboards - happy for any comments for or against. I've bought and used both, by the way, but nowadays I use Swype all the time.

pretty much exactly my view on the two. i purchased swiftkey for a samsung S3 but have now moved to swype as i primarily swype and swiftkey's swype is nowhere nearly as good as swypes. swiftkey is pretty amazing for normal push typing - i've had so many sentences where i dont type in any words - just select the predictions.

+1 to these two opinions. I also found that swiftkey was a memory hog if you're using that flow thing and didn't do well for some apps (can't think of any from the top of my head) whereas swype pretty much works consistently for me. But that's just me… I prefer swyping than typing

One downside of Swype is that the voice recognition button takes you to Dragon Dictate voice recognition and there's no way to change it to use Google's VR instead. I've found Dragon is not as good as Google's VR, and it means an additional VR app is using memory. Swype and Dragon are both owned by Nuance, so they are probably wanting to push Dragon.

  • Compatible issue with some android software. I have gone back to the default Android keyboard which also has the swype function with slight inferior in word prediction but it is 100% compatible.

Ive got it on a Note 2, personally I'd stick with the Samsung KB.
    Overrated.

I've had Swiftkey, Thumb Keyboard and Swype as paid apps for a long time. More recently, I tried out the free Google keyboard and haven't looked back.

  • I used this for a long time, but got sick of the invasive predictions, and have switched over to Swype. Swiftkey memorises EVERY word you type that's not in the dictionary (with the exception of passwords). That said, the prediction is top notch for most stuff.

No Chinese input is the only reason holding me back from purchasing this keyboard…

    • Yup. I bought this before Swype came back with a discount. But its lacking a Chinese handwriting input.
Swiftkey is only good for word prediction and the traditional non swipe input. It does a good job however…

Nevertheless the Swype Chinese inpout is not great neither, especially its handwriting is bad

    The Best ANDROID Keyboard.

I Typed that line in six alphabets and few spaces. Show me any other keyboard that can do this.

    • +1

If you write that sentence enough times you'll be able to select it by pressing only one alphabet and a few spaces.

      • I almost did :-) it's also the # # for the highlighting etc.
        Anyway great keyboard.

  • So nice, and the flow is flawless, Am typing it with swift key without even a single change, because it memorises everything for future reference

I used to like Swiftkey (and I own it), but with the new version of Swype (own it as well), think it's way more accurate in predicting words.

  • Great keyboard.
SwiftKey > Swype (for tap typing)
I don't use the swiping so I can't compare (I find the tap typing more than sufficient)
and I find the shortcuts/customisation on SwiftKey better (e.g. swipe from right to left with flow disabled to erase last word, customising the "hold duration" to get numbers/symbols quicker)

I changed to Swift Key about 6 months ago after getting tired of having to re download swype all the time during beta. While the functionality seemed great I found the swyping on Swift Key was fairly inaccurate (maybe it is just my swyping style), only really noticed this after switching back to swype after being officially released on play store.

I think after using swype for a few years it has broken my ability to type normally on my phone so when I do it always feels slow and clunky.

Still a good deal but I am afraid I will have to throw my lot in with the Swype crowd.

  • bloody hell. I have three great keyboards on my phone and the biggest pain is deciding which to actually use.
    Swype
    Swiftkey
    Google Keyboard.

I like swiping and Google is my current default kb.

    • Including the default Samsung one here which I can't get rid of. And bluetooth connected keyboard has to be set to it. Plus another language keyboard that I have, and Google voice typing that's 6 here.

  • My Xperia phone comes with swype keyboard builin so no need for this otherwise I would buy it.

  • Personally I have minuum keyboard, kii keyboard, swiftkey and default note 2 keyboard.

I personally like kii keyboard most. Minuum is great for when you are lazy. Swiftkey isn't bad but I got tired of it lagging after you use it for a while.

  • find it hard to use any other keyboard on a phone now… love swiftkey :)

new version is great, stores customizations in the cloud :D

  • This is the first app I recommend to people who get android.
