May be cheap…but there's no warranty anymore on them since GMC has gone into receivership…

Yes i thought that initially but the brochure says that there is a 12 Month Replacement Warranty. Not sure how they are covering that. Maybe GMC have now been bought out and the new owner is going to provide the warranty. I am not sure?

      • The warranty with GMC was always "Return the item and we will just give you a new one". Since Bunnings signed exclusive deals with Ryobi/Makita/others it left GMC with next to no market. I always thought that considering the price of the GMC tools, and knowing you had 12 months peace of mind, that they werent too bad (generally speaking). But now the question of warranty is a good one.

    • there is still a warranty. there is allowance in the wholesale cost of the items to allow for returns.

With Dahlsens. there have been some heavily discounted gear. metal cut of saws $69, were $129, 24v hammer drills $49, 9 inch grinders $49, etc..

as said above, losing a major deal with bunnings kinda sent them into receivership, as well as DANKS kicking them out of their warehouse too, made a large impact too.

You will see a new brand 'Rok' everywhere soon. it will be the new GMC.

  • Take the ad to bunnings and get another 10% off. Does anyone know if bunnings do that with interstate ads? There's no banner hardware store in Canberra

  • Your warranty contract is with the company you purchase from, in this case Banner. You're not buying from GMC, Banner are.

So if it fails, Banner have an obligation to make good on the warranty promise even if/when GMC disappears. The purchaser has statutory rights no matter what happens to an upstream supplier. I personally still wouldn't buy GMC these days, there's a good reason they're going bust.

As a consumer, GMC killed it for me when they changed their warranty to 'Back to Base' GMC direct replacements, not store swaps. I'll wager it was one of the reasons Bunnings dropped them.

  • You cannot take the ad to Bunnings because they no longer sell GMC products.
