  • Not bad but getting on a bit.
Its about a year old now. It was ~$150, it would be good considering they themselves do the Y300 with similar specs but lesser screen for $99. I remember someone saying DSE ran them out for ~$40 at one point.

    • $99 would be a bargain price TBH.

    • Y300 is locked to Telstra. This one is unlocked.

    • This one has 1GB RAM.Y300 is 512MB.

Was told by DSE 2 months ago that these had been on clearance for $40 and sold out. They were awaiting another 2000 to arrive, which appears they have now.

      At $199 it's a bit steep. Means it get's sandwiched between the $149 Telstra Frontier 4G and a $229 Vodafone Huawei G526 4G.

Though one plus for the P1 is supposedly 850/900/2100Mhz 3G support. One sore point being the non-removable 1670maH battery.

      • Weird that they ran them out then re-ordered them!

I would like to buy one but I am not going to at $199 - lets see what they do with the price.

It is a bit expensive for its age and specs, considering the HTC Velocity 4G was selling for same price about 8 months ago.

I still have the Huawei Ascend G300 and it was great value at $100.
Huawei are the hyundai of Mobiles, they wil take some time to get better, in the meantime enjoy better build than the cheap chinese copies for about the same price point

  • Display 4.3” super AMOLED crystal clear display

this is the interesting part. AMOLED beats any LCD tech for a phone, IMHO. Though with such a big screen, it would be nice to have more pixels than QHD 960x540.

    • qHD isn't so bad, I put the velocity next to my lumia 920 and it's noticeable UN a direct comparison but probably not that much of a big deal if you don't like reading fine print in ebook apps

I have the HTC One with FHD and I am not complaining but it's impossible to see the difference between this and the 920s screen in any normal use of the phone. If it saved battery life I would gladly stay with a 720p

      • IMO, AMOLED and Retina display are marketing gimmicks started by Samsung and Apple. Normal human eyes can't tell the difference for any res. above 300 PPI.

        • Retina display is a marketing gimmick, AMOLED is not. There's a difference between AMOLED and LCD screens. Go Google it

AMOLED is simply OLED so I refer the Samsung approach as a marketing Gimmick so it's fair to assume you are an Android/Samsung user.

Certainly, this will bring up the debate between Android fans and Apple fans. It all depends on your personal preference.

        • "the debate between Android fans and Apple fans"
          Lets not ffs. So boring…
