  • I know nothing of this cokes rewards system.

How much coke does one need to buy/drink to accumulate enough tokens to buy these watches? And are they decent watches?

Just trying to determine the "bargainness" here

    • +1

      10 points per coke bottle

Unless you're a cleaner, all you're going to get is crappy junk

PS: the points expire so collect them until you find something you want.

those watches cost $90-120 as mentioned below

      • +1

Not really drinking a coke a day gets you 3500 or 10 a week easily done by a family gets you 5200 points a year and the website has been running now for over 2 years meaning your drinking habit could get you a phone or blue ray system without doing anything extra except putting in codes.

  • -7

You would have to drink 165 bottles of coke to get this.. So bad for you and very costly for a crappy watch!

    • +3

you don't have to drink them, just use the code LOL!

Every time someone makes a post about an item on cokerewards some medical genius comes along and posts about how bad coke is for you and how many you have to drink to get a reward.

      1) You can drink coke zero or diet coke: both of which contain little or no sugar and probably aren't any worse for you than a whole lot of other things you could be drinking (including fruit juice or coffee);

      2) You don't have to drink all 150-odd bottles of coke in one sitting. A bottle or three a week - even of the deadly full strength coke - isn't going to kill you. And you spread that out over X amount of weeks;

      3) You don't have to drink all the coke yourself… get labels off your friends or family (people post on OzB that that's what they do);

      4) It's not costly… you get the rewards for FREE with the coke! If you were tipping the coke down the sink and buying it just for the labels, you're an idiot. But if the rewards are a nice little bonus for drinking coke and your consumption behaviour isn't altered by it: FREE. Gloriously FREE.

      5) Yes, the points do take a while to accumulate. These posts are more for people who are already collecting to give them a heads up (and to encourage others to start collecting). Just because it's not applicable to one person (who doesn't have the points) doesn't mean it's neg worthy.

      And lastly,

      6) Yes this is a crappy watch. Please don't waste valuable rewards points on it.

EDIT: two medical geniuses this time.

Right so it isn't a bargain and my neg is justified then if there's better stuff to spend your points on?

        • +3

Maybe Themojorising, but that's not why you negged.

And it's still free though. And it's crapiness is my opinion. I think Miley Cyrus is pretty crappy but I wouldn't neg a deal that was giving her CD away for free.

        • +5

          Fair call. Revoked my neg.

      • +4

Can we get an amen for that?
        Good speech Animus.

      • Point 1 is an assumption.
Point 4 is only relevant if, as you pointed out, one does not treat this as an incentive to buy coke. Which is how zapzap and Themojorising had interpreted it, which was a reasonable conclusion.
Point 2 seems to imply that these coke rewards are affecting your drinking patterns and choice of drink.

        • +2

My point was fairly clear MatrixM, but here's what I'd say to clarify.

          1) Its not an assumption to say that diet coke and coke zero contain virtually no sugar. The "probably" statement about the fruit juice is appropriately couched: I didn't state it as a fact. Although against specific drinks I could have: http://m.theage.com.au/lifestyle/diet-and-fitness/apple-juic… (and actual reputable sources exist, but it would be silly to go that far, it was a very fair criticism I made in point 1). Coke is basically water, caffeine and sweetener… which is basically the same as a lot of drinks (excluding CO2).

          4) … It's reasonable to assume people would assess the value of the rewards scheme on the assumption that they would purchase the coke only for the codes???? What???

          2) It simply stated that a small number of cokes consumed a week adds up over time… No consumption behavior was altered. I didn't say consumption went up because of rewards.

Although I would admit that my above rant invites criticism.

      • Can you give a helpful reason why you think it is a crappy watch?

Is it based purely on subjective personal taste on the design… or is there something technically wrong with the watch themselves?

        • +1

          Just subjective opinion.

The watch comes with a 2 year warranty, so I'm sure you wouldn't have reliability issues. But at circa $120 you can get nicer watches (or at least would be better off putting it towards a nicer watch): these ones are gaudy, made of that cheap rubbery plastic (except the back), and are so freakin' ugly they make my eyes water.

          = crappy

      • Best comment I've seen on ozbargain in a while

  • +3

    Those "elegant" watches look horrible!

    • Yeah I must admit that the Ice Elegant watch is not so elegant :p

    • -7

Lol both my reasonable comments were negged?

Some thin skinned people around here - I would have thought you'd have a lot more skin if you're "pro-coke" this much!

      • +1

I'm not one of the OzB'rs that negged your comment Themojorising, but please see my above post. Your reasoning doesn't make much sense (to me at least).

Edit: that joke at the end is not very nice either.

    • +2

Apparently you are "new" to the cokerewards program. Even if you didn't have financial and health problems you couldn't accumulate all these points soon enough to get the deal(max 10 codes x 10 points=100 points per week)
But if you consume coke, diet coke, coke zero regularly(like a lot of ozbargainers) you can start accumulating those points and hopefully one day, maybe after 2-3 years, you can have enough point to enjoy a deal like this for FREE(The points are free, you pay for of the coke). Therefore the use of the neg vote for "financial" and "health" reasons is inappropriate IMHO

  • +18

Can people who know nothing about Coke Rewards please not neg these deals, since I check here more than I check the coke rewards website I find it really handy that people post the deals here. Also I don't drink coke yet I manage to get points, you figure it out.

    • +4

      +1… million

    • +1

I managed to get over 2000 points just from my family members last year and barely drank any coke, so yeah, definitely no need to drink it all yourself. Just get other people's labels. And I agree with you, if anybody honestly thinks that the point here is to buy a heap of coke to get a reward not worth the value of the coke itself, then just move on.

    • +2

Plus the fact that your not meant to neg a deal if it doesn't apply to you.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

  • +7

Revoked my neg on becoming further educated on the Coke Rewards program.

I still don't think its a bargain but its certainly not worthy of being negged. My apologies.

    • It's still a crappy watch!

      • +1

        Warning: Joke coming up!

I'm sure that the ability that some people have to see that something is crap, just by looking at it… also applies to your face :P

In all seriousness, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and some people might actually like how this watch looks. I for one, do not.

Dilute your coke in scotch if you're concerned about harsh chemicals, etc.

    • As a a massive hypocrit of health concerns - I prefer my scotch straight!
