    • What has better reception? Live paid Satelite Australia version of TVB?

I never turn mine off. Too impatient?

Changing channels isnt that long 10-20secs. It's not like your avg home FTA or foxtel tv.

Using wireless to stream is always gonna have issues.

TVB app is not officially available with the tvpad2. They prevented it from being put on. But you can still do it manually.

You can record. Get a PC, load up VLC player, load up the streaming link. click record.

      • asian satellites are FREE for reception
just need to pay installation and for the dish
its much faster, doesnt rely on internet and is clearer has a wider range of channels (if you get the satellite that moves)

        • which satellite do you point to?

I have a FTA Satelite box and a satelite. All you get is the Christian channels and religion ones, it's pointed towards asiasat. The other ones are encrypted.

        • I would have to look up the details; you can find them in the asian newspapers; people who will set them up for you.

you need the motorised one, it can point to most asian countries therefore including ALL of china plus macau hong kong , there is also vietnamese channels middle eastern. the reason i personally dont watch this is there are only a couple of english channels… i think one is channel v and also a hallmark channel.
the chinese channels are not encrypted only a few movie channels/english channels are and you would have to pay for those…

basically all the oldies i know using satellite would never switch to the internet version due to the lag time, less channels and quality of reception

        • fair enough. our sat is a smallish one (100cm?) on our balcony it's a PITA to tune each time to change the angulation of the sat.

        • these are big massive things - about 3m in diameter? you would need a house to load onto the roof, or have also seen in some backyards!

        • ahh those ones.. Ive seen them in ppl's houses out west. they are HUGE!
Didnt know they were mechanical. cool
unfortunately not all of us can get/live in houses. :(

        • can you actually receive TVB(HK Channel) outside HK?
I thought TVB put encryption on their channels…..

      • TVB app is not officially available with the tvpad2. They prevented it from being put on. But you can still do it manually.

You can record. Get a PC, load up VLC player, load up the streaming link. click record.

Where can I get the stream link? I can't even watch on their web site with an Australian IP address.

  • any Indonesian channels?

    • Dont think so, sorry.

I'll tell you guys what's good! I used to think TVPAD is awesome, but you guys should check out MaigeTV. You can buy them through aliexpress.com. It does cost around AUD 300, and yearly subscription of about $60 AUD, but gosh you get so much more nice channels on there such, HK, JAP, KOR channels, ESPN, FOXSPORT, HBO, Universal, NAT GEO,Discovery SYFY, AXN, DISNEY etc etc mostly in HD channel too…. definitely made my foxtel looks like a joke!

    • Dont tell rupert murdoch that!

    • I get all those on mine… no yearly subscription and around $200 outright…

      • and you're using?

        • its called "asia dub" im sure its just a generic one which can be bought off ebay

        • The MaigeTV comes with free 1 year subscription when you first purchase it, but I dont think they are only 200 AUD.

Yes, would be good to know what lousy is referring to.

    • Is that foxsports USA and not the aus version hence no fox footy?

      • yep foxsport USA, ESPN US

It is said TVPad provider set up some kind of streaming relays(a little bit similar to CDNs) outside of mainland China thus it provides much faster and more stable streaming servier comparing to those free ones you can find on the internet. But as far as I can tell, the manufacturer DOES NOT have any contract/cooperation with those content providers(would be way too expensive), so bear in mind that these streaming content could gone in any moment because they are strictly speaking 'pirated content'.

    • +1

Correct they are "pirated content". But ive been using it for over 1 year no issues.

It's like someone in Australia setting up something which allows others to view Australian TV (oh gawd, who'd want to watch that)

Similar to recording radio on a cassette tape and sending it to your friend overseas…

      • similar to Steaming Australian radio on internet, and anyone could listen to it…..

    • Thanks. I was just going to ask about the legalities of this device, considering an earlier commenter mentioned that it has HBO, etc.

    • In other words, a $200 device would be down the drain if TVPad no longer support it, correct?

Edit: In the features it says "Join Hands with WASU to provide massive genuine videos", what's WASU? Any information on them?

      • NO idea what WASU is. Probably some app with heaps of tv shows and movies on it.

      • As someone said in this thread earlier, there are plenty of tv top boxes you can get for $50, so you are paying premium price solely for the higher quality streaming service, which comes with very little guarantee.

    • Some law got passed in September last year in Japan about pirated content. Suddenly all the Kansai channels disappeared off most of the Japanese IPTV providers and one or two providers suddenly disappeared. This makes me reluctant to shell out a large initial outlay for a box.

My wife uses tv-rec.com for Japanese. The interface is not bad, quality is very average, no streaming, video on demand instead. Works for her but I am always interested in alternatives.

She pays $50 a month which is ridiculous but there is no impediment to sharing the password and the fees amongst friends.

  • Is it possible to try the channels on the PC before actually buying the box itself?
I'm interested in the Vietnamese side of it.

  • +1

Here are the list of channels.

    http://tvpad2.com.au/channels/

    Looks pretty good!!

  • Is there a 30 days refund policy? I need one for testing first.

    • What do you need to test? I can do that for you and post on utube

      • I am reading a thread at whirlpool forum people talked about channels can't be received by default.

        • The TVB channel? The ebay sellers put those apps on for you usually.

        • +3

I rang up mobilecity and confirmed with a lady that the TVB channels were available on their unit and she knows because she's got one at home.

        • People talking about why they removed the apps that stream TVB programs because of the lawsuit filed by TVB.

          Read more here:
          http://tvpad2usa.com/tvpad-2-does-not-have-tvb-channels-by-d…

  • Can anyone tell me what type of AV cable is included? Is it the type that splits into 3 RCA plugs? Our TV doesn't have HDMI unfortunately…

  • Out Of Stock
    Estimated Dispatch 02/09/13

    • you can get them from ebay too

  • sorry guys… a newbie question here but is this a one-off cost to purchase the box and you dont have to pay any sort of monthly fee to watch all asian channel?

    • Yes

  • Wow I was just about to buy this for my parents this week. Good thing I waited a day.

But if I bought it from the official website for an extra $20 and used the promo code 15819288 http://www.tvpadzone.com/english/buy/coupon.html I could get some extras …
"a motion-sensing remote control, a 4G USB flash drive, a pack of red pocket, and dozens of dynamic games. "

so I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $20 for the extra remote and a 4gb flash drive. What do you guys reckon?

    • +2

      It's not worth it.

the "fake" wii controller look a like is useless. The games can be downloaded or obtained anyways. 4G USB flash drive is also useless. It "should" already come with a 2 or 4gb micro sd card.

And yes I have that fake wii controller look alike with the tvpad2 when I get it. It's useless!!! lol

      • +1

Thanks Turd (interesting choice of username btw, makes it a bit hard to thank you, lol)

        Am buying in on this.

        • haha no worries….

I think I was the first one to mention tvpad back when the tvb sat subscription offer post was on ozbargain. :)

          You wont be disappointed.

  • I got this at home. This thing is very good especially if you guys from Hongkong or Korean. Better than paying monthly fee with TVB australia.

Its one off purchase, no monthly fee needed.

You can watch all HK channels and dramas live for free for sure, my wife and mum very enjoy it much.

    • is it delayed by 2-3 hours?

      • +1

Live streaming tv has a delay of 2-5 MINTUES.

        • What stream quality you getting, SD480p, HD720p or FHD1080p?

        • I dont really know the exact specs.

          It's watch able.

        • 4:3 or 16:9 resolution? I think most likely is SD480p or below.

I might wait for ALDI start selling this, so I can return it back after 50 days of trial.

        • The one I use has options as to resolution 1080 is max which I use in Hong Kong as its fast Internet - if you have slow Internet connection however you may have to run at a lower resolution to reduce lag …

  • Can this pickup Full HD 1080p contents?

    • No, unfortunately not :(

BW requiremetns for full 1080p streams will be HUGE for the person providing.

But still tvpad is much better than watching Australian (Political) tv

      • Gone are the late nights kicking back on the couch watching "Parliamentary Q Time"…

  • What OS is the TVPad using?

How does the TVPad source the content?

Can the content actually be watched via satellite? (Currently using an old setup that only receives Standard Definition).

    • Content such as the live tv streams are not broadcast over here on Australian Paid sat subscriptions.

eg. Australian TVB is different to HK TVB (advertising is different etc)

    • It runs on customised Android OS

      • I've been looking into the channel apps for awhile now…they are technically regular apk android apps which link to the streams/channels so if someone would crack/rip those apps & install them on a tablet, phone etc it would pretty much make the TVpad redundant IMHO (oh & everything free)!

  • Any more discounts if I buy 2 or 3?

    • 200 each including delivery

      • Lol would buy if where true

  • hmmmm im interested in the KTV functionality? - does anyone have any experience with it?

    • As in Kareoke?

There is an app called I love K.

Mostly Chinese songs heaps of artists etc… You can sing a long or watch it sing. But you'll need one of those HIFI units with mic and stuff setup

  • +1

Here are some youtude previews and looks okay.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6rUIxjluBw (TvPad 2)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBR62AZX8SI (TvPad 1)

  • so how much internet download quota is enough/required to be able to use this streaming?

    • +1

You need an unlimited data plan, otherwise you have to sell your house to pay the bill.

  • Gotta order from other company, another resell-er tho, they do not have any stock and estimate time is after next two weeks, called another seller, the reason why they do not have any stock is that he take order first and then go to supplier for stock, and this price is too cheap so the supplier could not give any stock to them so, you know.
And they are saying is free but another reseller says they gonna charge you monthly within two years what a joke

  • -3

oh by the way, the re seller in chatswood(the one i called), they offer me a deal, $185 each with free game control, thats the deal man vote for me.

    • Can you share this Chatwood dealer's contact and details?

    • Pretty good deal. Game controller is useless imo. but yeah… $185 not bad for tvpad2!

    • Can you please share the contact of the Chatswood dealer?

    • Can they show demonstration in store?

    • Yes, please share PM chatswood contact details. Rather have something all set up working out of the box with TVB HK channels to give parents.

    • yes please share the Chatswood dealer's contact location please

  • Can anyone tell me if this can get AZIO Tv (AKA 東風衛視/Asia Plus/Xingya)?

I've googled and googled but I don't have an answer.

    Thanks in advance

  • @Rep - Can you please confirm if these channels are available on the TVpad2 (M233) by default?

TVB J2, TVBS and ATV channels?

    • Not by default.

      • Then how can we get those channels?

According to this post, thechengman called your store and a female staff confirmed TVB channels were available on their unit.

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114679?page=1#comment-15647…

      • When I called earlier today the lady on the other end said she had one and it had the Hong Kong channels including TVB and ATV already on the unit.

        • @Rep - you better open one of your unit and do some testing!

I called one other company located at Haymarket and they confirmed their unit had TVB J2 HD pre-installed. Their current price is $259 and in stock.

  • Hi,

So I can use for HDMI port as input into a computer monitor?

    Thanks

    • Yes. HDMI should go to any input source.

  • How these work do anyone know . IP multicast ??

  • Rep, why dont you give option of adding highly requested additional channels (TVB etc) as not cost option. Im sure you'll score a few more sales particularly with this weekends upcoming fathers day weekend.

    • It's easy to add the tvb channels. There is an app in the tvpad that shows "hidden" apps which includes "cantonese app" which has the tvb, j2, pearl, atv etc. You can also go to the tvpad forums and download the Cantonese app and install via USB

I bought 2 for the parents (tvpad 1) and had to set it all up, but both were already pre installed with the Cantonese (tvb) app already

  • +1

Rep. are you going to add more stock? I'd like to buy one if possible please.

  • +1

This product uses P2P if you are with Optus or anyone shaping P2P forget about it as it will not work.

TVPAD contents are grey area and whoever resell this product are taking risk for a RAID, sources of the broadcast are not reliable at all, most of time works until the source shut!

Myself have a paid subscription TV box from mainland China, has 300 channels HD, cost a bit per year but it is 100% reliable and take 2 seconds to change channel. :-)

    • Do you care to share the brand/model?

  • Which app gives english channels such as hbo?

    • I believe it is the BETV app. It's a Chinese channel
App but has nat geo, discovery and hbo channels
(nat geo and discovery are written in Chinese). I think there is also CNN and BBC channels as well.

I haven't watched mine in a while but pretty sure it's this app but can double check if u want.

Of course, if you install a movie app, it will have both Chinese and eng movies as well (with Chinese subs) as well as other international movies (Chinese subs). My dad just told me he watched "Now you see me" on there while it's still being shown in cinemas here

      • "Now you see me" had been started showing in the other countries in May 2013. It's way overdue in Australia.

  • +2

looks like the turd is the word!

  • The discount code does work rep? I would like to buy one please!
