JV Solar Electric Hot Water System $1000 30 Evacuated Tubes+315ltr SS Tank+Installation Kit

50

Excellent price for a complete solar electric hot water system. The ss tank itself is probably worth that much. Perfect for those who like to do a bit of DIY. If you have a friend who's a plumber, even better ;D (read below)

Was researching into retrofitting my electric hot water system with solar boosting for about a $1000. Came across this complete system for the same price!! You'll need to get a plumber to install (and sign off) to get the $1000 price (30 STCs retained by fxlarkin), if DIY or keeping STCs, the price is $1750. I'm going to DIY and retained the STCs myself and get a friend (plumber) to sign off after installation as the STCs are >$35 each, works out much cheaper if you sell them yourself. But much more hassel obviously.

Positive feedbacks on whirlpool for fxlarkin. Only downside is they don't deliver, they are located in Wollongong, NSW

Is this offer directed to JV specifically? or for everyone.

    • just to clarify, I'm not selling my Solar Electric Hot Water System…

Hence why my Report to move to Forums was bounced.

  • Similar specs to the system we installed a few years ago. Works very well.
    Very very good price.

lol, didn't know JV had a piece of tech named after him :D

  • Bloody hell I just installed a new 160ltr tank last weekend for close to this price damn.:(

  • Pretty good deal assailant sky, even the ebay systems aren't this cheap. The tubes alone usually cost $20 each
Good if you live in NSW close by, but freight might be a problem. When I was looking into solar hws I read a story about a guy who ordered his own tubes from china through alibaba or something. Half of them arrived broken, so the cheaper tubes may have a greater chance of breaking than say an Apricus. But if you can get it and it all works, you're in the clear.

I went with an Apricus 40tube system, and even at the price I got it for (builders discount) I would probably go with a cheaper setup if I could do it again. Apricus charge a $1000 premium to get Stainless steel, so I don't know these guys can sell it for this price unless apricus do a huge markup.

    • Seem like Apricus have a huge markup, I was quoted over $5000 with their system installed. fxlarkin has ss tanks listed at $550, but without element or thermostat (both cheap to add thou).

I'm going to pickup the whole system as they don't deliver anywhere. I'll have to hire a van or trailer but the overall cost saving over Apricus is still very substantial.

      • I helped the plumber install my system. One little tip from that experience, get a toothbrush. When everything else is ready, and you're putting the tubes in the manifold, you can put the thermal compound on the toothbrush and use it to coat the inside of the hole the tubes fit into.

Working with the plumber it took me 1hr to fit 10 tubes. Working by myself with a toothbrush I was able to do the remaining 30 tubes in about the same time. They're pretty frustrating. On the brochure it looks like you can snap them into place like leggo. Its only when you look deeper that you find you have to push it in by the heatexchanger, which has all the consistency of a aluminium can

        • Thank you for the tip! I'll give the toothbrush a go. They suggested to me on pickup to take the copper pipes out from the evacuated tubes by a few inches to make it easier to insert into the manifold. I probably won't appreciate how hard it is to install this system until I do it! Spent a few hours today working out how the mounting frame and tilt frame is connected together. Would be nice if they provided a manual and named parts like IKEA but what's the fun in that! :)

  • How much would installation cost on this?

And realistically, could this be linked to a 400L electric tank?

I have 4 girls in my household.

    • Should take a plumber about 4-5 hours to install. I'm going to link this system with my existing electric tank. I'm thinking just plumbing the outlet of solar tank to inlet of existing tank. You should ask a real plumber if there's going to a problem with that configuration.

    • Booster might suit you better

      • Do you mean this one? http://www.fxlarkin.com.au/solar-boosting.html

That looks like a small house hold system plumbed inline with standard tank.

        • fxlarkin has two systems, tank on roof or split. The split 30 tubes (more appropriate for your tank size) +controller + pump is listed at $995.

  • For victorians on the border this system qualifies for 42 VEECs, which is worth $450. Would be worth twice as much if people didn't accept free shit that doesn't work from door knockers.
