Thanks for that, however the plan pricing that we have for that phone is still being finalized. There is also an additional $18 for the equipment charge for that handset, making it $48 per month.
For the $40 plan, there is an additional $14. The only time that the phone will be $0 upfront will be on the $60 plan."

What happen if i order without chat with you, and here is the reply

Of course we will be contacting you first before we process anything. Then if you will agree with it, we will proceed with the order. But if in case you don't, then we can just cancel the pre order.

  • Well the cheapest $30 plan isn't too hot crash - $200 usage and 200MB (though for a lot of people that will be fine), but pretty reasonable especially considering the cost of the phone is probably gonna be more than $720. Yeh might be a pricing error, solid deal if not

  • For me I can just add a data pack and it works well.

  • Hmm if I do order it, can they suddenly increase the monthly payment of the phone?

    • "1) 24 month contract is required. The cost of the phone is $960 (Equipment Charge). Each month $40 (the Equipment Charge / 24) is paid off your phone, which includes your monthly contribution of $0. 2) Min cost over 24 months is $720." That's in their T&Cs

  • +4

From their representative: We do apologize for that since this morning we have escalated for it to be changed. Since under the $30 plan the handset montly fee is $18.

  • +2

Might not be an error. I bought the XPERIA Z outright from Telstra the day it was launched (day after actually) for $620 or so. Considering the prices of phones such as the Nexus 4 ($399 at launch) and flagship devices like the S4 are around the $700-$800 mark I wouldn't expect the Z1 to be more than that. So even on the $30 plan for 24 months Virgin should still be getting their money back. Don't forget all the extra money they will make from people exceeding thier allowances every month (anyone remember the Nokia handsets on $9 contracts Optus used to sell a few years ago)

    • Even for $60 plan, it's cheaper than S4.
Consider the specs, Z1 will be the best choice after price corrected.

      • Well I ordered one at $30/month anyway. Lets see how I go. When they do call me up im going to kick up a fuss and hope they will let me have it for $0 on $30 plan. Ill post back my results :)

  • ugh showing as $60 now…

    • That's suggested best plan.
Once you are in the select plan page, you can choose $30 plan.

    • +1

try this link if it shows up as $60 for you: https://www.virginmobile.com.au/Shop/ProductSummary/13269/Sony-Xperia-Z1---4G-Virgin-Mobile-$30-Plan

      • thanks!

      • Time to take some screenshots guys lol

  • waow

  • Choose the $30 per month plan, than add 2GB data per month for $10 extra for 24 month contract.
$40 per month, $200 calls etc.. and 2GB, plus a great phone, seems like a win, win, win to me.

$960 for a $779 phone and 2 years of calls and data.

  • Thats not what it says in my Cart!

    Total monthly cost $30

  • Well just put in an order for $30 per month min, if it $48 then just cancel, otherwise say hello to a new phone.

  • Pre-orders
Pre-orders will be available online from 6 September at virginmobile.com.au/sony-xperia-z1. The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available for $0 per month on the Virgin Mobile $60 Plan (min. total cost is $1440 over 24 months). Customers who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1 with Virgin Mobile will receive a bonus Sony NFC Speaker Ball. Offer is available to first 300 pre-orders or until 1st October 2013. • This will work with a Vaya SIM, yeah? Since they're both Optus resellers.

    • Only Virgin get the 4G though.

      • Why? If you're on a Vaya 4G plan it should work fine?

        • Sorry, didn't know that.

        • No problem, just had me momentarily concerned. Though I could just likely just port my number across and add a data pack and still be in front on Virgin.

        • no, virgin data packets are different to vaya data packets

the optus node gatekeeper does not allow interspecies data transfer. Its unethical

Thats what i deduced based on IT pricing enquiry anyway

      • Vaya gets 4G too, though I'm a Virgin customer now.
Used Vaya for a month, didn't like their 1MB data billing on 4G so I left.

  • Not letting me checkout :(

    • Worked fine for me, looking forward to the 'Sorry! We screwed up! We cancelled your order :(' email any time now.

  • ordered one on 30 plan 0 upfront

let's see virgin will honor it or not

  • that's a mad price for a mad phone, awesome deal

  • -3

geez, why no one ever read comment, the rep already confirm that it is a price error! said enough!

    • +2

We're giving it a crack because it's pretty much a no-lose situation. Worst thing that happens is that they cancel the order, best situation is we get a super cheap phone.

    • +1

      B3 - blinded by bargain ;p

    • yep, no lose situation

    • Yeah well the rep didn't tell me that, so I'm gonna order anyway lol

    • It's worth a shot.

  • can this be unlocked to work on Telstra 3G & 4G?

    • +1

Yes - it covers all bands and it's a postpaid phone so there's no fee to unlock.

  • bigplan is 29…that is now 50

  • Ordered one!

  • +4

Haha I love these OzBargain moments where you have a chance at getting an unrealistic deal!

I'm not taking this one too seriously, but it'll be fun to watch people raging because their order got cancelled etc lol

    Thanks OP :D

  • This article mentions $0 on $60 Virgin Plan http://www.cnet.com.au/sony-xperia-z1-focuses-on-photography…

  • +2

Got to the final stages of checkout and it updated the handset cost!! Damnit

  • Really doubt if they will honour it.
Legally they can ask for the extra $40 as the Fine print says the cost of the handset is $40pm and you tick a box saying that you accept and have read the fine print.
Really wanna do it but cant be bothered!!
Congrats if you can score one for 30 a month..

    • I agree, but then there's a part of me that thinks that there are so many customers that could be put off etc etc if they cancel, so out of goodwill they'll honour it….ahh I'm dreaming lol

  • VirginMobile has fixed their website. Now on checkout, it shows $48.00 pm. Please fix the title or mark deal expired.

  • -5

I placed the order…and then realised that it added $18!!!! wat do i do..i want to cancel the order

    • +1

You can cancel, just give them a call.

      • Reload the page. In Shopping cart, it shows Cross sign . Click it and order is cancelled

  • +2

I have the xperia Z, and Its the best bang for buck phone @$599 on release. The only bad thing about it is the speaker but Sony seem to have improved the speaker on the Z1! Instead of a tiny .5cm opening the Z1 seems to have a huge 2cm speaker grill on the the bottom/top (not sure of the exact location)

    • Can't blame them, they have to make the speakers waterproof as well.

  • -2

Sorry … deal is gone. My bad :-)

  • +6

This might be a good new guys. They said they will honor it, as the error it's on their end.
    my online chat below:
M: Yes, I can give you Sony Xperia Z1 on $30 plan with no handset fee.
M: It will appear on your bill. Don't worry. Besides, I gave you already the case ID number so you would have a reference number.

    • Niiice! Good work! You just scored yourself an amazing bargain

    • got my order in, so I am waiting for their confirmation now. fingers crossed they will honor it =D

  • +7

Just finish chatting online with virgin sales representative and the good news he gave me is:

We do apologize for the confusion. We have already escalated the concerns to our Higher ups and what they mentioned is that they will honor the $0 upfront on the $30 plan for those who placed their orders before the change. We really do apologize but the good news is, you are one of the few that was able to take advantage of the deal. You will just be paying $30 per month for the Xperia Z1.

    plus the bonus speaker:
That promo is also available. You just have to receive the handset first before you can make a claim for the speaker ball.

    enjoy happy weekend guys.

    • +2

thanks bzha… online sales gave me this same advice as well

With regard to the $0 handset fee of Sony Xperia Z1 on $30 plan, I can definitely honour that for you since we had an error on our website but honestly it has $18 handset fee on $30 plan.

not sure about the bonus speaker - didn't ask about that

  • Wow-that's a serious camera.

Shame Sony love those sharp square corners, makes their phones feel huge in pocket.

  • Ordered 1 and webpage timed out. So I ordered again. Got 2 emails that 2 orders have gone through. If they honor the deals, wife can have the other one. Will be an amazing deal for a great phone.

  • +2

wow, congrats to the people who got one!!

  • +2

just confirmed from virgin ,order will be honored, cheers!

    • How did they confirm…did they send you an email or did you have to ask them through chat?

  • +2

just chatted to online service asking if they could honour their error this morning:

"Michael: Yes, we had a mistake updating our website this morning. The original handset fee for Sony Xperia Z1 on $30 plan is $18.00 and not $0.00. We do apologize for that. Did you made an application this morning while the handset fee is $0 on $30 plan? If you did and receive an email confirmation then we can honour it since the error is on our end but if you are planning to sign up now I'm sorry I cannot give the $0 handset fee because that is not a deal but a mistake on our end."

envy those who got the deal, such a bargain!

  • Checked out with $0 on hand set and received an email 5mins later with $18 handset cost per month added! What the…. Did they change the price just 1 sec before i clicked order?

    • When did you place your order?

      • +2

A few secs before they changed (fixed) the price. Spoke to livechat rep and found out for me the email i received was sent in less than a minute after they fixed the price but the order they received show $0 for the handset. So they still honoured it. A big thumb up for virgin mobile. Btw why neg me for wondering my assumption was correct?
Edit: those ordered in the afternoon showing $0 handset but got an email with $18 definitely worth finding out if they received your order showed $0 handset. There is a few minutes or seconds timing difference so you might still get it for $0.

Guys the ACCC ruled that any handset that is damaged during the term of a 24 month contract must be repaired by the company for free. So if you are paying the 9.95 monthly insurance, you will be paying it for nothing.

    • Link please? I don't think the ACCC would rule something that silly

    • -1

Your insurance also covers lost which ACCC does not cover? So if you smash your iphonescreen you can ask Apple store to fix it for free?

      • -2

Im trying to phrase this to avoid trolling but accc rulling covers the failure of the handset. So i found this info out because once not so long ago i droped my Samsung S3 at a boat ramp and it fell onto the cement and then slid into the drink, its screen was wrecked and there was a massive crack in the case, water damage and i had it replaced for free because it was still on contract("fail" is same as "damage" can it "fail" without being "damaged"?). Now for this insurance it covers all the same thing except if you lose it where you pay between 125 and 210 for replacement handset so if you lose the phone around the half way mark of the contract. You have forked out at 12 months 119.4 plus 125 for this model for a replacement. This phone in 12 months would be worth less then 244.4. Just some food for thought.

P.S. Samsung S3 do not float they sink very fast:P

        • Then why the hell to have car, home and life insurance? The car has a car accident and fails should be covered by the car manufacturer, houses burnt and fails for us to live in covers by home builders, your organs fail you die should be covered by the government issued your birth cert. This world is perfectly covered mate.

        • -1

I decided to share some information i found out because i thought it would be helpful. First i get told im lying and wanted proof and i supplied a link to the actual legislation, a link to how it covers you and a link to the news article. Then people decided to troll me even further, we are talking about MOBILE PHONES. Its reasons like this that people refuse to post information on forums.

        • +1

Did you read the ACCC link that you posted?

"Of course, the ACCC is not asking for the companies to repair phones free of charge that have been damaged through misuse or accidental damage. This is about phones that fail through no fault of the customer."

"Fail" is not the same as "damage" mate, I don't know how you think that you dropping your phone is anyone's fault but yours.

        • -1

NP pay the 9.95 insurance a month enough said.

        • Thanks but no thanks. Try to Google the difference between "warranty" and "insurance". Next time don't share misleading info here please.

    • The insurance typically covers user damage for an excess (water damage/smashed screen etc) that is not covered by warranty. You'd hope that this handset does not suffer from water damage but it does have a big sheet of glass on the front and back.

      • are you for real? Sony Z models are all dust and water resistant…

        • well maybe if one of the ports wasn't closed properly..

        • From my comment

You'd hope that this handset does not suffer from water damage but it does have a big sheet of glass on the front and back.

just received my approval email 2day- Thanx alot op!! :)

  • +2

    Thanx :)

"Your order _________ has been approved! Phones will ship from the 1st October 2013 with timeframes of 1-2 business days…"

Hopefully you get the email soon :)

  • +1

still waiting the approved mail , finger cross!

  • Any chance to still get this deal guys, like if I talk a online rep or phone them? Really need it…my current phone is starting to play up so would love to get this deal!

    • +1

doubt it… Virgin is always difficult to talk deals, unless they make a mistake like this one.

      • hmm yeah, ill give it a shot with very low expectations on Monday when they open back up

  • anyone managed to get a screenshot?

  • +5

Didn't receive the email, so I had a chat with customer service.

They said my order has been approved and I should get the email shortly!

Thanks OP. I registered just to give you a +1.

    • +1

Didn't receive an email also, so I too had an online chat with a customer service rep:

      -after checking all my details-
Rep: So this is for the Xperia Z1 - 4G on pre-order, is that correct?
Rep: For this pre-order, delivery of this phone will start on October 1.
      Me: Yes that's correct Rep
Rep: Thank you, yes delivery will start October 1 for the pre orders.
      Me: Okay
Me: So that means my order has been approved?
Rep: Yes, definitely it is approved and submitted, and is ready for the dispatched date.

      • I would be more comfortable with an actual email. Going to harass them again tomorrow if it still hasn't arrived.

I am assuming they are going to need some payment details before the phone is dispatched?

    • You are welcome!
