  • Certainly not a bad price for what you posted but I just clicked on the link and price comes up as $1229?

      Yes doesn't start till tomorrow

  • specs seem heaps good for the price

      Maybe even fully sick?

      • +4

I've always been partial to a hektik deal myself.

    • Wouldn't say heaps good considering you can get a slightly faster 3rd gen i7 with a 740M for $135 less but I guess its alright considering the 4th gen chip.

  • 15.6" HD Anti-Glare 1366 x 768

Some more info for those interested

    • Another deal killed by 1366 x 768 resolution. Thanks for the info and this remains a good deal in my eyes anyway because I'd most likely just dock it with that awesome 27" screen and only take it out with me less than 5 times a year.

  • Good price, screen res 1368 x 768 taken from this link http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

good spec, woulda been killer if 1920x1080, but then thats expecting too much:P

      • I think so. I know people go on about getting hd screens years ago but 1368 x 768 is not too bad. Pretty standard for the price point tbh.

  • Good specs. However screen resolution is really poor! Too bad…

    • I'd rather the extra battery life anyway

  • -2

They call it a "gaming PC" with only an entry level GT 740M.. hmm…

  • How is the battery life on this? Is it classified as good?

  • How do we know the screen res? The MSY site doesn't mention it.
This model does come in 1080p as well. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was 1080p!

  • On the verge of buying.

  • Is MSI a reliable brand

    • Not sure about this one, but some of the higher end gaming ones over heat!

      • Its a good price for me coz i can get back gst going overseas but not sure buying something i haven't seen in person. And im not into games use more for video conversions. I cant see if keyboard is backlit i need this feature.

  • Graphics card shows DDR5, but in MSI site it is DDR3…

If you guys don’t want to buy a MSI from MSY then a slightly lighter (2.26kg) Toshiba 15.6” with a 3rd gen i7-3630QM and a GT 740M 2GB (with Optimus / Dual graphics) is available for $764 @ dicksmith. They also have another Toshiba with a GT 740M and i5-3337U for $679 or $649 after pricematch from officeworks. Link

    • This is a haswell with 4 time the RAM though

      • True, but that Toshiba has dual graphics, if MSI doesn't support dual graphics then the only advantage of having a haswell chip (power efficiency) is lost. And 16Gigs is an overkill for most users, for another $35 you can plug in 4Gigs and get the Toshiba upto 8GB. Then there is the retailer (Dicksmith Vs MSY) and brand (Toshiba vs MSI).

MSI is a reputed ODM, I know, so I'm sure build quality won't be an issue… But not sure how good they are at handling warranty claims, and I guess most of us know how helpful MSY can be ;)

  • From the rep at MegaBuy in this post:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/116173

This seems to be a better buy (full HD & GTX 660M):
    http://www.megabuy.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=40862…

But not sure how reliable MegaBuy is?

    • hey that's not bad.. almost as good as the expired DSE Toshiba P50T deal —> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114906

      • That one has GT745M, not as good as GTX660M.
New CPU are only 6-10% better.

        • yeah but not by much.. the P50t also has touchscreen.. they're both really good deals.. the P50t is actually back on sale for $1104 @ DSE and OW til sep 16th

  • This is still showing as $1229.00

  • How does this deal compare to the slightly cheaper deal at JB HiFi? I'm not quite computer-savvy enough to tell the difference. Any notable pros and cons?

Edit: Also, which laptop do you think has better build quality? I'd like something as robust as my current laptop (served me well for 4 years and running)

    • Laptop/PC prices mainly differ due to CPU and Graphic card.
The 4th gen CPU are very similar to 3rd gen CPU. 4th gen prob has a max 10% improvement.

      For GPU, I use:
      http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphi…
to see how the GPU compare to other GPU.

The HD 8670M is ranked 149 while, not so great.

  • Had an MSI Lappy bought new a couple of years back. Constant audio issues that drivers wouldn't fix and is now dead. Poor quality, not for me - never again.

    • What MSI Lappy was this?

      • Ms 163p commonly known as vx600
