We launched uberTAXI in June to fix everything that sucks about riding a taxi in Sydney: unreliable “next available” telephone bookings, 10% credit card surcharges, and lacklustre customer service when you have a complaint or lost item. Hundreds of Sydney’s best cabbies are now using Uber’s technology, and we’re celebrating with a FREE TAXI WEEK.

That’s right: Request a taxi with the Uber app before midday Friday 20 September, and your ride will be FREE (up to $30). (Limit 2 Rides per person)

  • This is for local rides only, up to $30 each. Riders will start paying if the fare exceeds $30.
  • Max 2 rides per Uber account.
  • New and existing users are eligible.
  • Users must select the TAXI option. Promotion does not apply to BLACK or LUX rides.

      Uber taxi only available in Sydney CBD and surrounding close suburbs /Airport area last time i checked

      And before you ride, make sure you confirm it will be free, as they may have a limit to the number of free rides available (e.g. first 100 or 200). I don't think they accounted for this being posted on ozbargain

      Weve been Amazon'd, Kogan'd and we dont want to be Uber'd this time

      I think it can be assumed a real ozbargainer will jump out of the cab when the meter reads 29.95 to avoid this risk

      Uber is real time booking only, so no booking in advance.

    is it real this time? last time the apps did not bother to tell me the condition of the promo code (specific days in melbourne only) and i ended up paying in full. :( how can you check if it is really free this time?

    Well, while registering, it asked me to link my credit card to this app.

    I am not sure about that. Dont think I can trust a new app for 2 free rides.

      They had a segment on this on 10 news last night, even had an interview with the Uber owner, so I'm guessing this should be fine

      It's not a new app. There's been multiple deals for Uber on Ozbargain this year going back to January.

    Can confirm you only pay the amount above $30. Took a ride and the receipt shows a discount of $30.

    Brilliant post! I just so happened to be in Sydney this week and scored a free ride back to the air port to catch my $9 jetstar flight hah!
    Used OPs ref to get extra $10 credit, $34.50 fare was $0 after the two discounts stacked!
