ROFL @ Square Enix who thinks they can sell mobile games at $16. They just don't get it.

I also think the price is bullshit compared to other top sellers going for less than one tenth that but their sales seem to be doing okay:

      Installs
      50,000 - 100,000

They would sell a lot more if they priced it like a mobile game. Understandable that it's not how the Japanese market works, but I would argue revenue overall would go up at a cheaper price.

Infinity Blade 1 and 2 are $6 RRP. Just looking at the graphics those games are much more expensive productions than FF4, which is a port of a DS title they already released years ago.

It's fine that they sell games for $16 and make good money doing so. I just don't think they'll ever become relevant in the ios/android gaming market with this kind of pricing structure, but just as well it's probably not their first priority.

        • I do agree their pricing is a bit excessive, it is still a great classic game and have enough fans to have people buying it so power to them.

          Infinity Blade 1 and 2

I don't think that comparison is valid.

IB makes bank by having shitloads of IAP. That's why they made profit even when they gave away the first two games for free. The FF series on mobile don't have any IAPs (at least FF4 doesn't).

Furthermore, IB can afford to be graphically superior because it's an iOS exclusive and developing for a handful of devices is much easier than a thousand different ones.

I think the reason their mobile games still sell is mainly because of nostalgia; same reason with the DS games which these were ported from.

They sell, but mainly to a specific audience, which is actually not that big compared to where the market is at right now.

And I'm quite sure that older Apple hardware can't handle IB.

But that was just one name out of a hat. You'll find plenty (if not most) of other 3D games with better engines than the DS engine it was ported from, selling for 99 cents or freemium, not $16 rrp. Have Square make a game exclusively on iOS, and I am almost certain that they won't make a game as good looking as IB, nor will they charge less than $16 for it. It's got nothing to do with hardware, it's to do with cost and profits. Something 4 years old can't handle IB. Something 3 years old might not either. If Square is making an Android game, they don't have to make it so that the original Android device can play it. They can make a minimum spec such that only devices within the last 2 years can run it, equivalent to the age of Apple devices that can run IB.

          I couldn't justify paying $16 for a DS port.

  • that's a lot of stars…

    • It was my first post and a copy/paste job. :P

Would sell better if it was under $5 as the regular price to be honest. Lot of other good games out there that sells for much less.

  • this one is tough~ so much grinding

  • Thanks for sharing OP
