  • Great deal for the retail version, OEM can be found for $30~ or so from other stores.

    • Yes that's true - but from what I gather you can't buy the OEM by itself (needs to be purchased with specific hardware), and even then with an OEM it is only a 1 user licence which is attached (or owned) to the PC you installed it to. I got stung by that one in the past!

      • I sell OEM licenses at work and yes they are only meant to go out with a new PC or a new desktop. I don't sell them to people who walk in and just want a copy of NIS (we have boxed retail editions for that).

However the OEM edition is most certainly a 3 user license which is very surprising! Because obviously you're not going to buy 3 computers at once, you only need to buy 1 new PC to be entitled to use the install with 3 PCs.

I believe the subscription period is 1 year from the date of first install. Most new PCs/Desktops come with 90 days trials so I suggest to customers only to activate subscription after the 3 months trial is over giving them 15 months total.

Today I just installed NAV 2009 after steering away for many years. Fantastic product. It's so lightweight and the install finished so quickly I wasn't even sure it had finished. Very light on resources and was rated "ADVANCED+" by AV Comparatives. Had one of the lowest false positive ratios and extremely high detection rate.

Even at $70 for 3 users it's good value, but if you can get an OEM for $30 it's exceptional.

  • If anyone wants the link to a 90 day trial for NAV you can get it here - http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/sat5/ec_main.entry25?page=15… usually only 15 day trial, this is 90. Might really change your opinion about Symantec software.
