Does it exclude preorders?
It doesn't specifically say it but "New phones must be purchased at the same time that the trade-in takes place"; the language isn't really clear if you did pay for your pre-order fully up front. This would be good though as the Note 3 would come down to $800.

for people looking to buy the Note 3, be aware of this, it may be region locked, not sure about Australian stock.
From what I have read there is a region lock for activating the phone, once activated you can then use other region sims when traveling. This is to stop grey imports. Good news for our local stock is that there doesn't seem to be any region locking. Will have to wait to confirm. Updated article.

What was their reason? The terms and conditions say that you must pay for the phone in full, nothing about excluding pre orders or that you had to physically take the phone on the day. I have a chat transcript confirming that they would accept the discount… don't want to waste my time going to the store only to be told they won't do it.

Advertisement in the Herald Sun today saying Harvey Norman has 10% off any new phone when you trade in your old phone. Was just on chat with them and asked if this applied to the Galaxy Note 3 as it is a pre order and they told me it did. Gave me a total price of $799.20.

I called Moorabbin today and was told they couldnt do the deal because the phone needed to be current stock.
Why not just buy the phone cheaper pretty much anywhere else (likely for way more than 10% cheaper) and then just not have to deal with or do any business with Harvey Norman?

I tried sunshine, they said no one has done it, bs. I went to hp, they didnt even know about it. Called up fountain gate and preton, both said no. finally rang up hopper crossing and they sold it to me with discount. Feww bargain is not easy to find
I walked into Chadstone and they did it on the spot no questions asked. Even laughed when I brought out my old Motorola.

Hey, I just called up HN inquiring about whether this deal is still valid, and:
1) Yes, it is, bring in an old phone, get 10% off the marked price of the new
2) Bring in the old phone, and whatever the deemed 'value' of the old phone is, either get that amount back in the form of a gift card, or have it directly deducted from the purchase of the new phone, IN ADDITION to the initial 10% off.
I don't know whether there are exclusions (I'd assume Apple would be one, however) but I can confirm that it's valid for the Xperia Z Ultra. Not bad, HN, not bad at all.
