  • Great find. How does it compare with Ipad?

  • +12

Dunno why iPad is so hot. Samsungs or android tablets are so versatile. Try saving a downloaded movie to an iPad….
Yet ppl still love it. Maybe they use it just for net browsing??

    • i was about to order http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117711. is the tab3 worth the extra ~$100?

      • Walk into the store and compare them yourself. Yes for me.

        • for some, you'll find the laggy OS operation when using the Samsung tablets/phones after a while (i.e. few months) due to their bloatware (i.e. note 2). If you purchase a tablet purely based on Specs, you will be regretted. Try both for yourself and you'll find out.

I have both iPad and android tablet.

Android better for watching movies as you can just chuck in an SD card and press play. iOS is a pain to get movies on to the device.

iPad though may not be as versatile, but is a better user experience. IMO.

          Really depends on your use.

        • +8

So what you're really saying is buy one of these AND one of the iPad deals on ozbargain…

Well … If you insist …

        • Absolutely that is what I am saying!

        • I use this on the iOS and it works flawlessly! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/video-stream-watch-movies/id…

Install the streamer on your computer, map to the folder containing all your videos and you're set. On your iOS device, you can browse through all sub-folders, it will store the time you last stopped playing the video (so you can come back and resume the clip) and it has an indicator for which videos you've watched.

It also lets your convert videos on the fly at various quality settings, and once conversion is complete on your computer, it will let you download the video onto your iPad/iPhone for offline play.

Check it out ;) Worth every penny

        • Video Stream works great if you are home.

But if you want to put on a couple (or 32Gb worth) of ripped movies on to your device for a bus/train/plane trip or add some ripped movies onto it for the kids to watch in the car, nothing beats the simplicity of the Android tablet.

For most other tasks (net, facebook etc) I prefer the iPad.

        • Agree. Itunes makes it difficult to upload new content from other pcs and devices then the one it was originally synced with. You'll end up having to find and use some 3rd party software to avoid deleting the existing content.

Also apple devices use specific video formats. Usually not the most common ones. So most of the time you'll have to convert to another format just to play on Apple devices.

At least with Android its just a simple copy and paste and there are plenty of apps for playing all types of video and audio formats.

    • Maybe some people just like to purchase a movie in iTunes and love that it is available on their iPad, iPhone and AppleTv … Isn't it similar on Android with the Google Play store …

It's like comparing Pepsi vs coke nowadays. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

      • +6

        I much prefer coke sniff

        • +13

Yep, definitely some disadvantages to snorting Pepsi.

      • +1

Maybe, if coke regulated the way you opened the can, store the can, and disallowed stubby holders, oh and made sure you always sipped on an angle with the label showing. Then yeah apple v android is like that.

    • Dunno why iPad is so hot.

      Because.: http://goo.gl/KJ7u6l :)

    • i also own ipad and 2x android tablets. while i am android fan, the retina display on ipad and simple UI makes me grab ipad all the time. Kids will not even touch my nexus 7 to play games…..

  • -5

Pass… I would only be excited if the 8" galaxy note was priced at $250.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tablets-accessories/samsung-gala…

Otherwise, just spend that extra $50 to get that iPad mini.

  • hmm. i'm new pricematch. which retailer can we pricematch this item with?

    • officeworks

      • how can i pricematch with ow when dse only offer delivery? sorry for the newbie questions.

        • Delivery is $4.95 so they should pricematch. Ive never had any trouble pricematching at OW. If it costs to deliver then they will price match from that price. EG $249 + 4.95 = $253.95. OW will then take 5% off that price. Well thats how its worked for me. Sometimes they even pricematch the price without the delivery.

        • +1

ow did pricematch $236.55. thx for posting this deal.

time to hunt for a decent cover and screen protector.

        • i just bought one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190897155247. it's very similar to the case i purchased for the a510 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/350606680005.

        • Don't you feel unease when the case covers 4 sides of the front screen?

        • i like the full frame cases. it keeps the our children's sticky little fingers from removing the screen protectors. is also helps hide other small openings and the micro sd slot from foreign matter.

          cheers,

  • may be unfair - but which deal this week is better- the acer a1-810 at 149 or this at 249???

  • The Galaxy looks a lot better and lighter.

  • i got the ipad 4 yesterday. if i hadn't, i would have jumped on this deal

  • +1

Hey buddy,, just bought an one by price matching($236.55) at office works(Russel Street).. Still got stock and they will change the price soon.. So hurry up guys…

  • +1

I would prefer the note over the tab 3. Will wait for the note to drop to <$300 would be a bargain. Nice post btw.

    • me too. waiting for $299 note 8.0.

  • Why does it say free delivery and then charge 4.95 delivery?

    • You're right. Delivery charge is $0. Thanks.

  • Thanks OP. BigW online price match is a joke, they don't price match online sale

  • Grabbed one from officeworks. The salesman said they would probably just be waiting out the dick smith sale and not reducing their normal ticket price.

  • Man im confused, whats the difference between this Galaxy Tab 3 8" and the Galaxy Note 8"

    • +3

Note with the S Pen and quad core CPU and the Andriod is customized for the pen.

    • The Note is Samsung's higher quality tablet; the Galaxy Tab is the budget range.

  • Size.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Will wait for the Note 10 2014 edition, but for now will make do with this.pricematched from OW. Thanks OP

  • Its a great price, its just the specs of this tablet is very 2011 specs (The SGS2 had similar specs). Im still going to wait for the LG G Pad 8.3" tab. I know it will be priced higher but at least it has support for future games where this one is outdated before it even started. I'm just not sure why Samsung did this.

    • I guess they want people to buy into the more expensive Galaxy Note tablets if they want better CPU's.
Galaxy Note series: High-spec power house with quad cores
Galaxy Tab series: Mainstream tablets with dual cores.

      • I can understand that, but a 2013 tablet should have at least what the galaxy note 8 had. a quad core a9 chipset seems acceptable for a mid tier tablet even a snapdragon 400 would have been great.

        • That is why dropped $100 I think they are not selling well.

        • Same goes to other Android tablets.
Google's Eric Schmidt admits 'we were late to tablet game'

You may argue Nexus 7 is doing very well but sorry it's not even close to Ipad's sales. IMO, 7" tablets just can't offer a real tablet user experience.

        • So how many inches do you require?

My mother-in-law decided 10" was too big for her and finds 8" a lot easier to manage. ;)

        • +1

I bought a 5.3" Android Phone recently and sold my 7.9" Acer A1 because I found no use of it :D

According to this they have bigger marketshare now. It's only matter of time before they overtake on revenue too.

People have different needs and wants, I prefer a 7 inch tablet form factor for portability. 10 inches isn't that portable.

  • The screen area for the ipad mini is larger - 7.9" diagonal

vs this tab which is 8" diagonal

I notice this greatly on the 10.1" Samsung tabs vs. Ipad 9.7"

wonder if it's the same on these smaller devices

    • It depends what you are doing with it. The main difference is the aspect ratio of the iPad verses the Android. The Android tablets have a wider screen and generally show movies better. Th iPad screen ratio seems better for books.

  • purchased one at OW yesterday. I prefer this over the Nexus 2012 version.

  • do i buy this or the new nexus 7? HELP!!

    • It depends what you want, more screen real estate with weaker hardware and slower android updates or better hardware in a smaller package with pure android and latest version as they come out? Some people prefer the 8 inch form factor, others prefer the 7. A huge advantage the nexus has is the screen, much higher pixel density than the Samsung.

      • +1

assuming the above comparison is for the 2013 Neus 7? dont forget the microsd slot in tab3 and also the front and back camera.

        • He does state the new nexus 7, so its a safe bet he means the 2013 model since that is the new one afterall. Yeah the microsd card slot is something else to consider.

  • Trying to purchase one of these but having difficulty. One page says it's out of stock. On the product page itself it says it's in stock, but when you click to buy, it defaults to click and collect, which is not available. Not sure whether the deal is still valid.

  • I've been trying for about half an hour. Now when I go into the item, it shows as out of stock. So that's it, it's over I guess.

    • Have you tried any other stores? Dick smith have been selling out and people have been getting from other stores price matching.

I had to get the iPad mini through Officeworks.

      • I don't know whether the offer is available anywhere else, but most places will only price match in stores, in stock. I'm not driving around on the off chance someone will match it.

  • +1

I've gone back to the item and it now shows up as available, and I was able to purchase it for home delivery. If you still want it, try it now.

  • +2

Purchased 2 from officeworks ringwood. Typing this on one now :P Thanks OP!!

  • Hasn't quite ended yet, as there's still stock at the Tea Tree Gully, SA store. Click and collect for $249.
Thought about buying it, but I think I'll wait for the next Note Tab/Nexus 10 (hopefully) instead.

  • anyone have a receipt?

  • I bought it and received it on Tuesday, but that was online from the special. The price online is back up to $349.
