Apple MD510X/A iPad Retina Display 16GB Wi-Fi Black/White $448 @ TGG (Online & in- Store)

30

Hi all, I missed the DSE deal on iPads the other week and thought they would all be discounted after the announcement of the new models but it doesn't seem so. I found this was the best deal around at the moment on the 16GB retina wifi model and though I would share. Also The Good Guys have a 30 day, 120% price match guarantee so if they do go back to $397 in the next month you can get $60 back which would make it the best deal yet on this model at $388!

I bought mine online and picked up in store but the in store price was the same. I had to drive 30km for it too as I rang nearby officeworks, DSE, JB HiFi amd Harvey Norman for a price match and was told no by all!

They have deals on other ipad, ipad mini models too but I haven't looked into those….

  • Sorry that the link goes straight to the main page, I did put in the full link to the iPads but it still won't go direct. Just search for "ipad 16GB retina" and you'll find it pretty quick.

  • Shouldn't the price come down with the new model released? I got mine for $470 in January!

  • I hope so, then I can get 120% of the price drop back! As long as its within 30 days…..

So you know for the future any salesmen with any sales experience (in an item that can be bought at many outlets) will know the most important part of making a sale. Get them in the door.

Once someone is in the door they will negotiate but until then what's the point? They (the customer) are just going to do exactly what you did and pick up the phone and call around and try and get someone else to beat it, in the end it all it will do is hurt them and their competitors because it's wasting time on the phone and there's bugger all profit.
If you walked in the door and spoke to someone you most likely would've had a different outcome.

    • Actually, I did try DSE, JB and Harvey in person to negotiate before I knew about TGG. None would budge from the sticker price (all around $500). I only rang them after I went home and found out about the deal. I also visited OW after I knew about TGG price and was told they don't have iPads in store only online and online doesn't price match. I have also been told by more than one store that $448 is below their cost, even TGG said they don't make money on iPads.

      • OW online DO price match. But this item has the clearance tag, they won't for that.

        • "How do I redeem my 5% reduction?
You can redeem the Lowest Price Guarantee (LPG) by visiting your local Officeworks store, by fax or phoning in. You can not redeem the LPG via our online store."

          From
          http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-price-gu…

This is also what the OW staff in Richmond told me.

        • Wouldn't phoning in be linked to the online store? They don't have a physical store and they have the same stock.

        • That might work. I didn't try calling the online store. It wasn't open on Saturday and I didn't want to wait till Monday in case TGG price went up.

        • "What items are excluded from the LPG?"
          "- competitors clearance items"

This is marked as clearance on tgg website, so they'd probably wouldn't pm. Unless you got lucky of coarse.

      • officeworks is trialing ipads in a few stores.

the only one i know for sure is Highette (melbourne)

My pick is the iPad Mini for $305. It is much less than $479 for the new one.

I agree but the new ipad mini has the new CPU in it. The old ipad mini has essentially a 3 year old chip in it so in that way the price jump kind of makes sense. That said I have the current ipad mini and love it. I'm thinking about getting another for my brothers family for Christmas at this price from GGs

      • OW also sells it for $305.

      • Get yourself a new mini and gift them an ipad mini that you've lovingly pre loaded with several months worth of apps. :)

        • I like the way you think

The new one is practically 4 times the tablet in almost every aspect.

      • The old one was closer to a smaller iPad 2. The newer one is a smaller iPad Air.
