The deal is already showing up on their website. I have called them yesterday and they have plenty of stock across Australia for the 16GB and 32GB, both Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi + cellular ones. 64GB has less stock and 128GB will only be available as click and collect. All colours should be plentiful. Quite a bit cheaper than buying from Apple themselves.

I'm lined up at the George Street Apple Store right now and I don't want to lose my place in line, but the line isn't very long. I don't think the demand for the iPad Air is very big so if you just stroll into Big W early today I think you'll be able to get one. Managed to hold one just now, it's like the reviews say - insanely light and feels amazing. No point in getting the Mini anymore.

Storage Wi-Fi Wi-Fi + cellular
16GB $568 $698
32GB $668 $798
64GB $768 $898
128GB $868 $998

Their website shows "Not Available" right now, but they do in fact have stock. Just walk in or phone up your local store and ask. A few people have already left the line here at George Street to buy from the nearby Big W in the Sydney CBD who have confirmed stock since last night.

EDIT: 64GB & 128GB are not in stock anywhere.

  • Price match?

    • Just asked the guys at George Street. They're not going to price match.

tell me if I'm wrong, if I use my entertainment book to get vouchers and get 5%off, plus I find someone who works there. I'll save around another 10%?

    • +6

and if you're traveling, that's another 9% ish off

    • Yup, that works.

    • That's what I intend to do… have prepared the requisite amount of gift cards well in advance :-)

    • +1

The entertainment book has big w vouchers? If you wait for staff day, they get 10% off using their cards

      • You can buy Woolworths Wish gift cards, which can be used at Big W (and Dick Smith, for that matter).

  • Thanks OP, hopefully my local BigDub have one of each colour in the 16gb wifi model. Will pick 'em up today if they do, then set about selling our iPad 3's for cheap!

    • +2

yeah trying to sell my ipad3 as well. Feeling the burn apple gave me by coming out with the ipad 4 early. ipad3s are just not worth much..

      • Haha, yeah. Our iPads are supplementary devices to other things in the house, so we don't use them too hard and have never felt as burned as other people who jumped in on them, but they were certainly a misstep by Apple. Bit of a bummer the superior wifi ac isn't in these new ones.

Nonetheless, if I can hock each of them for a bargain price that'll be fine.

      • Feeling the burn apple gave me by coming out with the ipad 4 early.

then, get prepared for more burn as Apple releases iPad Pro/5 early next year.

  • Does the woollies staff discount apply to iPads?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Good pricing. Anyone have any luck price matching at Myer?

    • +1

Tried to price match iPad with Retina display last time at Myers Brisbane CBD, and the staff told me they don't price match Apple products!
      Anyone else have any luck?

      • Prices matched iPad 4th gen at Melbourne CBD Myer with Officeworks. They seemed a bit reluctanat to provide it though.

      • Interesting - because I had a macbook Air pricematched at Myers brisbane CBD with a 10% off dick smith sale.
I guess it depends on who you get

  • cant see the 64gb or 128gb on the site but yeah in store may have stock

  • +9

Absolutey a reason to get mini. What a foolish comment! Want a smaller screen!

      • +8

well done to whoever gets worked up over being negged on Ozbargain

        • -5

          exactly, I agree ^^

  • +1

Where is the BigW in the city? Does the Op mean Woolies Town Hall?

    • +3

There's no BigW in the CBD. Just click and collect from your local store.

    $598 at TGG

Should be $562 after price beat.

    • What's their price match policy?

If you find a lower price online or advertised within 30 days of your purchase we will beat it by 120% of the difference.

      Is that correct?

      • so that should bring it down to $532?

    • Blacktown thegoodguys won't do price beat. They said they only match local store, which means bigw in blacktown. What a shame. Bigw Macquarie shopping centre doesn't even considered as a local store. I strongly recommend people don't go to blacktown thegoodguys. They said they called bigw and the price was online price. What a joke, the website clearly says it can only be picked up in store.

      • That sucks considering their price beat policy says "if you find a lower price online or advertised".
At least you have 30 days to keep hassling them to honour it.

  • What is our chance of Price guarantee - 5% at Office Works?

    • 100%…. if they stocked them!

      • OW will stock them as they do with older iPads

        • Went to my local OW and they don't stock any Apple products anymore. A sales drone told that only 2 OW stores in in Melbourne sell iPads.
          Strange

        • he means two stores have stock in store, other than that only buy online

    • Most likely they'll undercut Big W by $1 or so to avoid losing 5%.

  • Might sway me to get a 32gb.. Don't need cellular as data plan prices seem to suck - just wanted to get like 3gb without expiry.

Will play with one today to see if it's this or wait for Mini 2

  • -2

Anyone seen any discounted iPad 4 pricing ? Need to find some for 28 degrees price drop deal (32gb wifi specifically)

  • Can anyone find the link to the 32gb wifi and cellular silver on big w? Can't price match unless I can show them the site.

  • vic highpoint bigw sold out, just called them up

  • Whens mini out?

    • +1

'Later in November'. Whatever that means.

  • I can't see the 64g 4g on the Big W web site.

    • -5

Misleading ad. Big W doesn't have 64gb and 128gb anywhere. Head office confirmed that.

      • +1

you can set pricing before you get stock, everyone does that.

I'm pretty sure once apple has enough stock to pass on to retailers, big w will have stock to sell.

  • They will have as many iPads as they had PS3s

  • +1

No 128gb for walk in?! Im going overseas in two days! Noooo

  • Picked one up at Brisbane cbd. They have 15 left. 16gb wifi stock only

    • any on the gold coast? the search says only sydney stores have them ??

  • got one,they only have 16Gb wifi

    • you don't have to neg seriously. why the hate?

    • some people just like to get a neg vote out once in a while.

  • Solid $50 off for the 4G model. Impressed BigW!

  • Does anyone know of anywhere in Melbourne CBD where we could take a look at one of these?

I was thinking of a mini, but people are saying this Air weighs is damn light now. Would love to do the comparison, and be actually able to buy one within a week.

    • +1

i got a 16gb wifi ipad air from big w QV melbourne this morning. the guy said they have a few. they were busy updating their apple display at the time too with the new ipads airs.

  • +1

Check out http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121447 if you want to buy an Air from JB-HIFI and get a 25% discount voucher useful for blurays, dvds, etc. If you've got purchases planned, it would work out cheaper than discounts from Big W.

    • Or a better idea may be: price match with them and still ask for the discount voucher.

      • I like it! :) True OZbargainer! :)

    • I price matched at JB but had to forego this deal to do so

  • Hhhmmm, might finally be the time to cash in the $200 voucher which expires at the end of the year.
Getting the 32GB 4G, but the big decision now is whether to go with the Air or Mini.

It is a replacement for our current iPad, which is good but too bloody heavy. Like the look of the Mini and i think it is great for videos, but just concerned that it might be a bit too small for comfortable reading.

The Air would be great for both, videos and reading, but just not sure whether it is light enough.

    Decisions, decisions…..

    • Reading: Mini
      Videos: Air

      • +1

Reading = Mini…really? Wouldn't the font size be a bit too small to read comfortably?

        Reading AND videos: ???

        • Wouldn't the font size be a bit too small to read comfortably?

'small' is relative to person's (visual) acuity.

        • not to mention that you can just increase the font size.

      • LMFTFY

        Reading: Mini
        Everything: Air

  • Also reconsidering the Smart Case vs Smart Cover. Has anyone with a naked back iPad have many scratches from carrying it around?

  • sold out except for 16gb in brisbane city

looks like i'll wait a few weeks

  • +2

Anyone intersted about the weight, here's a list taken from the recent anandtech iPad Air review
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/7460/apple-ipad-air-review

    iPad 1 680g
    iPad 2 601g
    iPad 3 650g
    iPad 4 650g
    iPad Air 469g

    • iPad Air 4G is 478g vs iPad Mini 4G which is 340g.
How much of a difference would 128g make?

      • +2

        As a reference, an iPhone4 is 137g and iPhone5 112g.

So if you have either of those phones, imagine that as the difference, give or take a bit.

      • Pretty much no difference. I held an iPad Mini and an iPad Air today before deciding whether to buy the Air or keep waiting.

The Air is amazing. Just get it.

        • The Air is 25% heavier than the mini though, that's a pretty significant difference. For reference the Air is 27% lighter than the iPad 4.

    • Nvm. ipad mini weight already given.

  • lol that y im lovin Nov

  • Anywhere else can price match?

    • +1

      They can?

  • +2

JB Hifi price matched 32gb wifi in indooroopilly qld

    • Hey mate, would you be able to upload a receipt. Much appreciate.
Cos I just call up the JB in helensvale, they won't price match it.

      • +1

        see below

    • I work at JB and I can tell you we will NOT BE PRICE MATCHING Indooroopilly's price regardless of you having a receipt from them.

A nationwide memo has already come out because of you uploading this receipt.

My advice: take the $50 voucher offer instead, it's a better deal than what this guy has gone for.

      • -3

we will NOT BE PRICE MATCHING

        Boo !!!!

        Boycott JB Hifi !!!!

      • whoops and no it's not a better deal because it means you have to spend more money in a separate transaction to get the $50 off.

  • +3

Got mine at Target 16gb wifi for $549, they were giving out $10 off vouchers at the door which can be used with iPads plus it is cheaper than BigW to begin with ($559)

    • Can you please upload the copy of your receipt?

    • which target?

      • Target at Miranda, Can't scan at the moment might be able to do it later. The voucher was just a photocopied thing with a barcode, $10 off anything in store I believe.

  • I price matched 16gb for $568 at good guys kawana waters QLD
Well, big w still is the cheapest since you can purchase WISH gift card(can be used in all woolworths group shops) for 5%discount from various memrbership website such as RACQ,GGs of course will not match this extra 5% : D

  • +4

    Sure - http://i.imgur.com/fdCJcpc.jpg

I showed the guy the deal on my phone then he looked at the stock levels in the area and said nah there isn't any stock, and i said ill drive 30mins away i dont care. Then he went off and checked with his manager and came back and said can't do it because we have the $50 off next purchase deal. I said i dont want that id rather you price match so he went off again and came back and said ok we can do it.

  • Great that the non-16GB wifi models have comparable savings too, don't think that's been the norm in the past.

  • +2

Confirmed Target indro and mt ommaney have only 16gb but it is $559
Confirmed Target Brisbane CDB have 32gb Caucasian model but its $699

  • Harvey Norman city store is price matching and have plenty in stock

  • Anyone knows if Target has the cellular versions? Thanks

  • Confirmed JB Indro is not price matching bigw or themselves
He is blaming Whirlpool and saying they did price match earlier today but no more
    He is quite upset

    • +4

      He is blaming Whirlpool

For what? Getting too many customers???

    • +1

oh dear, now i feel bad….

      • +3

Dont feel bad. They lied to me and would not explain their price match policy.
The Good Guys were happy to match if stock was available.
Target had the 16gb $10 cheaper than BigW and $60 cheaper than Apple.
Some Harvey Normans and Myers price matched.
JB lied to you initially as well regarding stock.
So to summerize JB are liars and cant live up to their own price match policy
