Springvale was gone in 5mins of opening.

IKEA with this sort of poor effort are moving themselves up to MSY and other notable online retailers who have min. stock at heavily discounted prices.

Whats even worse there were 'family' members all parading around the car park with 4 boxes each, no doubt these will appear in various flea markets this weekend.

    How about Homebush Ikea?

Sold out at Rhodes on the dot @10 I think some people camp overnight for sure. All pallets gone. Don't think that 4 sets per person is working. For sure some bogan family took day off for it. 16 sets out the door each family

Don't bother with these deals unless you got nothing to do, no job and getting the dole.

Otherwise you own a restaurant and getting your henchmen to get the stuff for you and distribute

Ikea is now becoming like cotd or msy

Seriously ozbargain should be members only

  • It's my understanding that these were sold out everywhere within a few mins of the shop opening, so I'm going to mark it as expired. Should minimize any additional confusion about Ikea stock levels and procedures.

On the bright side, there will be some Logan families using cutlery tonight for the very first time. Hope the set comes with instructions for use.

    • hey it's my video ;)

  • Ikea is the worst store ever. This stunt is what I would expect. Sorry OP this is why I didn't give it a + as I knew there would not be enough stock to allow people to get in. And they made out like this would last till Sunday! OMG

  • people flipping them already lol

gusto to take the £20 screen shot

    • "Billy" doesn't have the gumption to leave his mobile number, lol.

  • Could someone tell me please how the actual quality of these is now? Do they bend easily, do the spoons/forks have sharp edges ?

    • I am surprised for $5, the quality seems to be high. They are thick and not easily bent. Spoon seems to be a little bigger than normal. I don't think the edges are sharp.

      • I'm not sure if it's the same with yours, but mine seem to vary in thickness. It's quite noticeable by looking at the back of my knives that some of them are thinner. Same with the other cutlery, just less noticeable.

    • oOooOow, thanks!

Sounds like he might be a cockney geezer?

  • Confirmed from Rhodes, no re stock because they didn't expect to run out so soon.

  • Ikea Logan employee said the set sold out in under 15min, with people waiting at the doors from 6am.
She said there was a riot for them.. elbowing and old ladies being bowled over etc.

    • that sounds crazy, I rocked up at 9:40am got 4 sets and didn't have to wake up at crazy hours :P

      • which store?

        • logan, I waited until 10am when the rope was released :)

no cutlery sets for me, but I slept twice today and i loved every minute of it

  • Wait for them all to appear on eBay…

Security and staff are useless, if they try to physically stop people they'll sook about being 'assaulted' and want compensation from the store. They should have it in a sectioned off area, force people to queue, and pay cash on exit so the registers aren't blocked for 'normal' people.

We went for a look first thing on Saturday morning. Not only were they sold out, but they planned on being sold out, as they had professionally printed signs all over the store advising that they'd sold out. If they had enough time to get those signs printed, surely they had time to order more stock for such a well publicised sale? I suspect the advertising of the $4.99 cutlery set was a means to getting people in the doors rather than a legitimate sale. Not sure I agree with that as a strategy to increase weekend trade, seems a bit unethical!

Not only unethical, but potentially in breach of Australian Consumer Law:

Bait advertising takes place when an advertisement promotes certain (usually ‘sale’ prices) on products that are not available or available only in very limited quantities. It is not misleading if the business is upfront in a highly visible, clear and specific manner about the particular product ‘on sale’ being in short supply or on sale for a limited time.

This was supposed to last three days. Every store sold out in an hour or so. I'm not convinced that simply saying "while stocks last" is specific enough for IKEA to defend a charge of bait advertising.
