          I could see wives and mums preferring a small remote as compared to a PS3 controller laying about (let alone one that isn't wireless).

      In my experience the PS3 remote absolutely devours batteries. I suppose because it is a bluetooth remote? You're better off just using the controller. It isn't any more difficult.

      It's also worth noting that the PS3 BD remote won't work with with the PS4.

        Strange. I've had my PS3 remote running for months off the same batteries. Although i've only been using it a few times a week.

      Note you will not get the internet content on the PS3 that you get with a dedicated Sony blu-ray player.

          Shrugs I don't know why it was negged.

          I suggested a PS3 remote for blu-ray movie playback for obvious reasons. You make good suggestions and people neg ya for it.

        I reckon we will see a $138 or $148 (console with controller) in the lead up to Christmas. (search on here, we saw those prices on the release of the super slim so there is no reason why they wouldn't do it again)

        There should also be some clearances on PS3 Slim models (160GB - kmart and 320GB - bigw/kmart) models from at least Kmart and BigW. (I know of at least 3 stores near me that have at least 6 of these still on the shelves)

        The US is getting $199 with two games specials on black friday, and going by other deals it has been cheaper to get a console from here, so maybe we will also see something like that in the lead up to Christmas.

      It's getting close to what I'm willing to shell out, that's for sure. $120-ish and the next two years will be sorted, playing all the PS3 exclusives I've missed out on. Then in 2016 I buy the previous 2 years worth of the better PS4 releases at around $15-20 a pop instead of $60-80.

      You won't be able to play PS3 games on PS4, so if you're keen to play any current gen titles this is a good option for you. Otherwise you can hope that they release the games you're after in an emulated fashion on the PS4.

      I think it might be the "stuffing around" bit people are down voting. I don't understand how it is any more difficult to use the controller over the remote.

        Because you have the play, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, skip chapter, eject etc buttons on the remote control and all you need to do is press it with your thumb. Those buttons aren't on the control pad so makes it more fidgety to use those features.

          You do all of those things while watching one movie? I suppose if you need to make all of those inputs a remote might be more convenient. :)

          Usually just play and pause for me.

      It's not actually a hard drive, but YES you can buy a HDD cradle (around $10-15) and get a Hard Drive up to 1TB to fill up.

      The only game I purchased that cost $50 was Bioshock Infinite as new release, and I have played maybe 60 or so titles. Relatively recent games on gumtree might cost $20-30 within 2 months of release, and if you don't feel the need to have only the latest games $10-15 after a year or two is the most you'll pay at a pawnshop or on gumtree. Then you can also swap and trade with mates or online as I do on gumtree and/or receive games as gifts on your birthday or Christmas. They're better than socks or chockies and sometimes family are grateful that they always know what to get you. Also if you spend a bit of time reading a range of reviews you will hardly ever purchase a game that bores you after 2 weeks unless you are playing 6 or 8 hours a day; for instance I just finished Far Cry 3 last night after 3 months or so off and on, and got 95 hours+ even though I haven't finished all the challenges.

        I would highly recommend buying games on Ebay. I bought Bioshock Infinite from an Australian store in Perth and it cost me $30 NEW. Also,wait for the Steam Xmas sales as often you can pick up $60 games for a fraction of the price. I bought Tomb Raider 2013 for $12 and bought Portal 1 & 2 for $4.99.The Steam sales are pretty much the best way to afford pc gaming.

    This $178 deal has been available since the $148 deal for the PS3 SLIM 160GB was out - but this deal didn't seem like a "deal", compared to the other one…

    I finally decided to buy one today and got it just before the post. Then after black was out, thought of getting the red as a gift, went to get some food, came back, no more available :) you guys are quick :)

    You could have ordered a game or remote to go over $200 and used the code 15OFF200 for $15 off. Plus of course there is the Free Delivery on 'normal' sized items above $75. So not bad at all.

      1. its $168 not $178
      2. the $148 deal was extremely limited in-store only and NOT online
      3. it was the black only…. red charges a premium.

      as such, this was an excellent deal (if u were quick enuff online). :)

    Red console is sold out?. Then why is it not showing as sold out online and why is the add to cart button there and why am i able to add it to the cart and process to the checkout with it?. They might have located more stock in the warehouse.

    It's not sold out at all online.

    Edit: ahhh crap it just sold out again. Extra stock is gone.
