Just bought another card without problems. Who doesn't like $5 of free fuel?

  • Just bought one, missed the the first deal. Thanks op

  • +22

    Bought another 4!
    Same last time too!
just sign up with more email addresses and you can order more than one.
Neg me haters, i'm bargain greedy and when it saves me any my family dosh on fuel, IDGAS!

    • I even used my uni email ;P

    • +8

That just means you don't care that other people miss out at your expense. Ozbargain is about sharing so I'll be content with 1. thanks op

      • -2

Still not sold out so no ones missing out!, thing is I hope they honour 4 cards with the same name to same address.

By the way, Does anyone know if this has a Pin? I might have to go digging for the sheet from last deal.

        • +1

Aerona, no pin on the card.
And they honoured it last time for me x4 same address + name but different email addresses.

      • That just means you don't care that other people miss out at your expense.

Probably, when it comes to you ;)

        Ozbargain is about sharing

Ozbargain is about sharing deals, and getting the deal before the masses "Ozbargain it"
If someone finds a way to "beat the system" then as an ozbargainer its my duty to share that info with the masses and buy it up before it is in the said state of "Ozbargained"

It could be said myself and others on Ozbargain (deal dependant) may get just a mild case of broadenism

      • +2

LOL- I wonder how you feel about me then…I bought 12 of these

        • and here I thought that if I bought a 3rd one, I would be greedy…

  • +6

Guys, dont forget to go through the sale through Starthere to earn 3.75% cash back as well!

  • +1

Bought 5 last time as well. Got hit with a surcharge though for foreign currency (9c for each) so might be wise to pay with 28 degree card.

    • I paid with BankWest's Platinum Mastercard to avoid the currency exchange fees.

      • +1

i used paypal, am i affected? its in aud, so why is there a foreign currency fee?

        • I found that foreign currency PayPal transactions converted into AUD by PayPal still attracted fees when purchased on my NAB credit card. Seems quite unfair as PayPal already did the conversion (with its own generous exchange rate) and then the credit card company takes another slice. Don't know whether that's the case with other funding sources for PayPal, such as direct debit of savings accounts. For PayPal I use my BW Platinum card too.

From memory Groupon transactions are based in Zurich.

        • +2

No i used paypal in both occasions and there isn't any fees

        • Yeah not sure what you're all talking about. It simply took $15 AUD out of my account.

    • You can email them about it and they will refund you the surcharge (says in T&C)

    • +1

I complained and got a $5 in Groupon credit so this one will only cost me $10!

    • I used an amex - didnt seem to be hit with anything

  • normally i dont go to caltex, and still havent used the card from the previous deal
is it valid to use at most caltex or caltex/woolworths in sydney?

    • if you are near parramatta rd there are two caltex accept this card

      • thanks
and anyone got this card rejected?

        • +9

Dear God, it's not an NSA infected super virus.

Just use the flipping card and stop worrying about it.

  • Cash Rewards is 4% cashback.

  • anyone knows if I can use the fuel discount in my rewards card with this?

    • If you're asking about your Everyday Rewards card, then yes.

      • Thanks mate

    • Yes you can.

      • Thanks mate

  • still haven't received from the last deal…
edit: just realized that its a pdf voucher

    • i got a pdf voucher and a physical card also.

    • +1

u cant use the pdf voucher, u gotta have the plastic card sent out in the mail.
      check if
-anyone with access to ur mail box has taken it
-the letter is lying around in ur house
-groupon canceled ur purchase, and given u a refund in the bank/paypal

if not any of the above, i would contact groupon immediately

      • Thanks, I have contacted them through their portal… its the waiting game now..

  • mine was a physical card sent out to me in the mail. Used it today in fact!

    • Timely!

  • Thanks OP !

  • Got the previous one. Works at my local servo.
    Thanks for another!

  • Help me to understand the popularity of this deal. Receiving $5 off the price of a full tank of petrol is 10 cents per litre (based on a 50 litre tank)

Can you use multiple cards in a single transaction?
Can you use Woolworths 4c/litre coupons too?
Are people just filling up $20 of fuel to maximize the discount?

For reference an ING paywave card gives 5% discount, which works out to be 7.5 cents off per litre if fuel was $1.50

    • +2

As a natural tightarse, I drive around with the cars fuel consumption showing per litre usage in real time, just squeezing the most from the tank.
In a situation like this, I just fill up $25 AND use the best Woolworths fuel dockets I have, generally scoring at least an overall 25% off, more depending on the available docket. Thats enough for a week of tight-arse driving in my fuel miser car.

    • +2

Yup you can use multiple card in one transaction.. Yes you can use your woolworths docket

    • +1

You could use this card, save 5 bucks and then use your ING card to pay the balance and also get 5% off on that balance portion. So, why wouldn't you buy this card?

  • +1

Wasn't going to take up the offer, but I got burned at the bowser last week. Refueling my car is always like gambling. I have no idea when it will go up.

Last week the I went out to refuel and it happened to be the day my 8c coles voucher was expiring, and that was the day the prices would go up. My mum told me they'd already gone up, but when I went out it hadn't yet. I had an errand to run so decided to do that first and then refuel afterwards so that when I go home the tank is a bit more full than it would be if I refuelled first. I did that, and then it went up… And I had only a quarter tank left (I never go below a quarter).

So not only was my fuel more expensive, I couldn't use my 8c voucher anymore.

So because of that, I will take part in this to recoup some of the money I wasted that day.

I just wish you could buy more than one without cheating the system. I will not do that.

    • Get motormouth software or visit their website

    • +1

I check this site all the time:
      http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/petrol-diesel-and-lpg/recen…

You generally see trends and guesstimate when is a good time to fill up.

      • I like the graph for Perth prices

    • It's not cheating the system if you order by your mum or any family member names

  • Yay again

  • Created 2 more new email addresses, so now I purchased at total of 12 of these. Exhausting hours work for $60. Plus my 4% cash rewards cashback. Which in itself is $7.20 cashback, plus the 180 QFF points on the amex thru paypal. All in all good hours work!

    • +3

like I give a flying **** u neg me!! I still got my $70 value.

  • How do you link your Amex card to Paypal? I can only link Visa:Mastercard/bank account.

    • +1

Just add it. I have 2 Amex's linked to my paypal, an Amex issued card and a Bank issued Amex card. Great way of paying my Council rates, and Telstra bills and scoring QFF points and not paying any surcharges at all.

      • +1

whhaaattt? your council is advanced. we are limited to CC with surcharge, bank deposit, cheque and cash. wwwaaaaaaa

        • +2

well if I do it through the Council directly they charge a CC surcharge and don't accept Amex. But on post bill pay, which the council offers, it allows me to paypal, and that's how I use Amex for free just to get the Qantas points.

      • They must have changed it, Paypal didn't accept Amex previously. However if an online retailer imposes Amex surchage but accepts Paypal, if you pay by Paypal on Amex do you still get slapped with the surcharge?

        • Ive only had paypal since the start of this year, and Ive used it over a hundred times, for all sorts of online shopping, and bills and Qatar airfares, never been passed on a Amex surcharge by anyone at all in my experience. If I pay a Telstra bill directly with Telstra they'll charge an Amex fee, via paypal and Amex their is no fee for that same Telstra bill.

  • Surely they must be trolling.. still not sold out!

  • Does Caltex sell travel tens and can the card be used for purchasing them?

  • is anyone else getting the error msg when submitting:

An error has occured. Please try again. If this error remains, please contact our customer support hotline.

    • try using cc instead of paypal?!

      • yeh have tried both :( still doesnt work no matter what. maybe i'll try setting a new account
        thanks

This deal NEVER ended since last time, they've probably got plenty

    • This offer also has the same expiry as last time.

    • Yes it did

  • annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd its gone

    • Really? Still showing Buy Now for me and clicking on it works. But I've got mine anyway.

  • high time i bought a car.

  • can I use more than 1 of this card in 1 transaction?

    • yes, it's just a normal gift card

  • do this card work with fuel discount voucher?

    • yes, it is to be treated as cash/normal payment method

  • +1

    Free beer essentially.

    Cheers

  • guys r u using different postal addressed or names while ordering more?

    • I used different names and emails only. The address and payment card was the same for all 12 I ordered. It worked last time this offer was on about a month ago also.

      • +2

        i found you BRODEN!

  • 12 ?????

    woow good,…

  • why did u stop at 12?

    • 1 for each month.

      • +1

there's only 2 months until this gift card expires….:P

        • lol, right. He might be driving a Hummer.

      • Might be 1 for each car.

    • could be f'ed creating more new accounts

  • i'm all for saving money… but the way people clamour over measly fuel savings, $1 milk etc. has me stumped.

Sure it all adds up- but not nearly as fast as say for instance… $900 phones, $$$$ foxtel subscriptions, bigger (or more) cars than you need etc. etc.

I guess a whole heap of tiny savings is more rewarding psycologically that 1 big saving?

I mean, whatever floats your boat- but I just don't get it.

    • +3

dude are you serious? if you order 10 gift cards, there's $50. if you only order 1, it's only $5 but hey, free coffee. do that 20 times over a year, there's $100.

the phone, sure may have been $900, but it was discounted from $1000.

i tracked my savings from the entertainment book one year. over $1000. that was mainly from purchasing WISH gift cards (which i use for grog, food, fuel).

      it all adds up.

      • "the phone, sure may have been $900, but it was discounted from $1000."

I'm talking more about actually doing some thoughful analysis about whether that $900 phone is going to provide $700 more value/benefit than a $200 phone.

Not that I'm saying it can't provide $700 more benefit (whether that be perceived or actual)… it just strikes me as odd that the effort involved in saving money on fuel doesn't get replicated on assessing big ticket discretionary spending. (generally speaking)

"i tracked my savings from the entertainment book one year. over $1000. that was mainly from purchasing WISH gift cards (which i use for grog, food, fuel)."

If you were being honest though, how much more did you buy over that one year than you otherwise would have if you didn't buy the book?
Surely there were a few things you saw in the book and used that weren't life's essentials (ie stuff you would have bought book or no book?)

        • +2

not really, no. buying wish gift cards makes sense, because i have to buy groceries etc.

we goto the movies, eat out, so we just pick somewhere from the book. at least 25% off each time. i don't think i have ever used a voucher just because i had it.

if someone wants a phone for $900, they should be doing research that one vs another cheaper one. sometimes it comes down to hipsterness, fashion etc, so whatever the cost they are going to purchase it anyway. however if there is a $20 off coupon for the phone, why wouldn't you use it? small amount yes, but discounts are always in small amounts e.g. 5%.

it's just like the gym. you don't put on muscle overnight, you slowly chip away and over time you get bigger. on that note, my gym charges $450 annual membership fee. yes it's expensive but a lot cheaper than other gyms, but i asked for a discount and got $50 off. same with insurance, a 10 minute phonecall can save $50 on insurance costs just by asking fo ra discount

      • Just get yourself a Nexus 5 and save yourself a couple hundred bucks

    • The Poms have an expression which pretty much nails it:

"Take care of the pennies, and the pounds take care of themselves"

Also, my dad is mates with a very rich, real estate agent. He is evilly charming and despite obviously dripping in money (pampered trophy-wife/car/houses)famously "disappears" whenever its his shout, round or turn to put it.
He is, of course, a prick but one of the ways he got wealthy was by being fully conscious of, and micro managing ALL his resources - shooting for efficiency and no wastage.
So long as you can still "think big" and spend freely when appropriate and despite not liking real agents or Poms, I very much believe in "Take care of the pennies, and the pound take care of themselves"

  • I bought 8….. i fill up once a week. So that's a $5 saving on petrol (without grocery receipt) till the end of Jan 2014.

  • Bought 2 ..Thanks..Does it work at woolies?

  • do i need to wait for the physical card ? or the pdf print out will work fine ?

    • +1

You need the physical card, mate
