QANTAS FF: Double Points with Qantas Cash + Double Status Credits + No Joining Fee

460

Three great deals from QANTAS Airways this December as Christmas gifts.

1) Double Qantas Points when you use Qantas Cash (a prepaid platinum MasterCard on the reverse of QF FF cards) on all purchases in December. This offer is available until midnight on New Year's Eve. That means an amazing two Qantas Points (per $1 AUD equivalent) spent in foreign currency, plus two points for every $2 you spend in Australia!

2) Double Status credits when you fly anywhere in Australia this December and January.
Simply register and make a new booking between 1 and 31 December 2013 for an eligible Qantas domestic flight for travel from 1 December 2013 to 31 January 2014.
Must register for offer.

3) Complimentary membership available for a limited time only, meaning there's never been a better time to become a Qantas Frequent Flyer. With so many ways to earn points and thousands of ways to use your points, start earning today. Join by 31 December 2013 and you won't have to pay the normal A$82.50 joining fee. Saving: A$82.50.

Here is a discussion about Qantas Cash on the forums and a video explaining how it works. It's really best to use for transactions only and not cash withdrawals, that way you won't run into any fees.

Qantas Points are also referred to as Qantas Frequent flyer points. Full details available on the link provided.

Double status credits is a nice bonus. Good if you need just a little more to move up to gold and get a year of lounge access.

    • Indeed. Made even sweeter that anyone can register for it this time. Usually these come around a few times a year, but have always previously been via 'targeted' email only.

    • Agreed, if only they brought this out for November/December - might have just squeezed into Platinum.

  • i find i get offered the targeted 3 month promo if i'm juuuuust out of reach of requalifying gold/silver etc..

First year i made it to gold was only because of the promo but i've had it every year since. With my usual flying, i normally land on about 600-700sc's (depending how much business ive thrown virgin's way). This will mean i smash it this year.. but do i give platinum a nudge ;)

  • Had a 50% SC bonus offer last week from Qantas to book in a flight by 28 Nov and fly between 22 Nov 2013 to 22 Feb 2014.

I will be flying on Monday 3 Dec for a quick overnighter. Too bad I did not get this DOUBLE SC offer. Grrr.

  • Go for it - depending on where you are located you should be able to pick up somewhere between 400 - 500 scs on a status run in the next few months. Just bear in mind that JASAs are no more - they're now 'MASA's and can only be booked via the Qantas call centre

    • Status run?

      • A trip that is usually designed to maximise the number of status credits for the minimum amount of points/cash.

        Past examples include: MEL-SYD-TSV (Townsville)-SYD-MEL

When on double status credits and buying business class tickets, you can earn something like 400-450 SC on a trip lasting about a day.

  • Any age limit on membership? Might sign up the kids if it's free so they can start accruing points. I scanned the T&C but could see no mention of it.

      Any age.

If the Member is 15 years of age or younger, reservations must be made on their behalf by their parent or legal guardian. Note: that restrictions and conditions apply to unaccompanied minors for all Award Flights and that different airlines apply different restrictions, conditions and definitions of what constitutes an 'unaccompanied minor'. Further, unaccompanied minors cannot book or travel on an Any Seat Award which includes a Flight on Jetstar or a Qantas Interline Airline. Refer to Qantas Contact Centres for details.

Qantas Cash, at least 16 years of age and has an Australian residential address

    • for membership. No age limit .

My 6 and 9 year old nieces are both Gold members. No limit on the ability to earn SC AFAIK.

    Regards
    Daniel

  • any way to upgrade membership from Bronze to Silver or Gold ?

    • +2

Lots of flying! You earn status credits by flying and those are what determine your upgrade to silver, gold, platinum. Hence why this double status credits is a good deal for those trying to upgrade. Silver doesn't really get you much but gold entitles you to lounge access.

I have had the Qantas Cash (MasterCard) now for a few months. Whilst I like the extra points (I usually only buy from the Qantas shop) I have had a few problems getting vendors to accept this Qantas Cash MasterCard. Firstly it was rejected when I tried to top up my son's mobile (Vodafone pre-paid) $20 and then just the other day it was rejected again, when I tried to top up my Tatts account $20 (for a winning lotto ticket!). In both instances I had to use my regular Commonwealth Visa card to make the transactions. So, although I haven't read all the information etc. to hand, I have some reservations now to as to it's use. I do have over $200 sitting idle in the Qantas Cash MasterCard for some time that I hope to use to make purchases, but I am not about to give up on my regular Visa credit card just now.

    • You can't earn points on purchases of gambling chips, betting transactions, money orders, travellers cheques and foreign currencies in cash.

Couldn't top up a pre-paid mobile phone account too though.
Somehow, without asking, $20 has turned up in US currency too.

        • Free money? :)

        • Give Qantas Cash a call, takes a while to get through the phone menu. But once you're through there're really helpful and based in the UK (much better than Virgin). Tel: 13 11 31. :P

        • Somehow I don't think it is free money … wishful thinking though hey!

I have topped the account up a few times so far. I did make at least one US transaction, some currency transfer fee involved, but no idea on what the US$20 (exact)currency in the account is about, but possibly that was a part refund for an online item I purchased (from US). I did dispute price paid when I found same item advertised cheaper elsewhere here.

I shall have to sit down and examine the account a wee more closely to work it out; just been too busy of late. I type faster than I can think. I only have mobile phones (a killer to ring 13 or 1800 telephone numbers) … Cranbourne landline (we don't have one) calls to Melbourne is charged at STD rates, which is why we all rely on mobiles here … and use wifi internet. It will end up costing me more than $20 to ring them.

Don't mean to criticise; just to point out that a pre-paid (Credit) card may not be relied upon to pay for everything. I do think I should have, at least, been able to pay for a pre-paid mobile phone top-up though. Well, it is your money after all.

  • Does the double status credits offer also apply to Jetstar flights (with the appropriate fare add-on that accrues points)?

Someone just posted this link on a dupe listing a few minutes ago. Probably worth a read… What if Qantas sold its frequent flyer program?
