        • HAAHAHAHA lol'ed in the office right when my boss is on an important call….. got a death look

Telstra sold this for their prepaid for $199 two weeks ago.. looks like soldout now though

    • +4

Was $179.10 (which included SIM and $30 credit) on Telstra 10% off overnight special on 28-29th November. Bought this Telstra one and to my surprise it was SIM unlocked and is a dev version (now I have unlocked bootloader etc etc).

179 for those specs looks pretty good. Can't believe the two threads I can find for that deal (I completely missed it) have 7 and 2 positive votes, yet we have posts on here giving away half a mouthful of gravy and 2 band-aids getting 100+ positive votes…. scratches head

        • +5

I'll agree that the posting (and furthermore; mass up-voting) of things like a couple of BandAids, just because they're free, is a bit absurd.

      • +2

All Telstra Razr phones were unlocked from the start. We got lucky and the US got stung with that

        • +1

If only I knew they were unlocked, would've bought one then

    • +17

I'm predicting they'll get bought up by some big tech company. … I'm seeing a 'G'.

      • +3

        Hope you guys are joking..

But just in case - Google bought Motorola ages ago.

        • -8

Yep i do know that Google bought it a while ago…but still stand by my claim

        • +1

If Google was planning on killing the Motorola brand why would they have just started producing phones in Texas?

      • +5

Moto G has been selling like hot-cakes — one of the best cheap phones. The thing is, Motorola does not have to make big profit, and unlike other phone makers, it does not really need a high-margin hero model. Google's strategy might just be getting Motorola to product affordable quality mid-range phones to continue spreading Android, and let other manufacturers doing high-end phones.

  • This is the correct GSMArena link

I had a good read about this Razr and like the others the Audio and Camera do disappoint, but nothing an ordinary user would notice and the edge to edge screen is simply amazing, I have held this and can confidently say the build quality is topnotch !

  • Very nice phone. The only thing which stopped be from buying this a few months back, was the pentile screen.

Anyone know what the latest android upgrade is for this phone?
This phone is nearly 12 months old… even my galaxy nexus isn't getting 4.4 :-(

    • What are you on about? I got a Nexus 4…and it should automatically update its OS…Mine's currently v4.4.2

      • +1

There are no plans for the Galaxy Nexus to receive the 4.4 update…. So unless Google changes their mind we are stick with 4.3…..

      • -1

        Galaxy Nexus != Nexus 4

      • @siu_loong_bao, proving Android people can be just as technology clueless as anyone.

    • Razr M is getting 4.4, there's just no ETA

      • +1

Maybe. Wording is Droid RAZR M that's the XT907. This one is the XT905.

      • I've heard it all before…
No ETA usually equals no future updates. You would hope that this being effectively a Google phone that they keep it up to date.

  • There may be a few DS stores that still have stock of the Razr HD as posted previously https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117922 . If you can still get it anywhere near $298 definitely consider this over the Razr M.

I work in the Telstra store and the ridiculous amount of HD's that got sent away for repairs is ridiculous. I had the M for a few months and it was fantastic. The return ratio compared to HD's was extremely low as well

      • Interesting, would have thought they came off the same production line.

        • My Razr M was dying overnight. Perfect battery use during the day when doing stuff, then dying overnight while not doing anything. It turns out to be a Razr M glitch, where it goes crazy if you have wifi on while the screen is off. I already had wifi off while at work, which explained why it was fine during the day. I've set a Smart Action to turn off wifi when screen goes off, works well for me.

Why is this an FPD !! It(White version though) was twice on $179.10 in last 2~3 weeks from Telstra. The Telstra version was always unlocked and mentioned in ausdroid as well as Telstra tweeted about it.

I got one and its damn good for anything upto 200$ or so, above that rather get a refurb HTC One X or Nexus 4.

  • Sorry I don't quite get regenade, so is this phone better than nexus 4 (other than 4G)

    • No way better than Nexus 4 of course. The screen is pentile and just of 960 X 540 resolution. But for $179 the price I bought for it was an awesome deal.

      • +1

The screen is pentile and just of 960 X 540 resolution.

The resolution is 256 ppi. Better than my eyesight.
Pentile does not matter when the pixels are only 0.1mm across.
I for one prefer the AMOLED display to the IPS of the Nexus. Especially outdoors.

  • Should I get this or the Moto G?

    • Did a quick search, the Moto G is not 4G ready, has no expansion slot and build quality looks cheap…

this was the top of the line phone when the Galaxy Nexus was released. So its at least 2 generations behind.

    Gnex, Nexus4, Nexus 5.

  • I have been using this phone pretty much since launch as my work phone.
I went for the Razr M over the HD and the Galaxy S3 that were on offer at the time.
Reason being I want something phone sized (as opposed to a phablet) and because I am on the thing a lot during the day I wanted good battery life.

I can't fault the phone it does what I need it to as in the screen is nice and bright I think it's bigger then the last Iphone, Battery life seems pretty good and the U.I mods by Moto aren't too intrusive. I like the raised bezel on the screen. I have dropped this phone many time screen down and it hasn't cracked. Unlike my colleagues galaxy S3's which are all cracked now.

  • I bought this model for $190 delivered from luvyourhone online from the NSW Central Coast a year ago. Compared to the Motorola Atrix the RazrM has an updated android 4.2 OS and a larger screen. The operation is smooth as, but the radio is quite weak. The RazrM will drop out in places where the Atrix holds a signal and wifi is no different. I recently took the RazrM overseas and often the phone had difficulty finding and retaining the hotel wifi when the tablet and laptop we also had with us were okay.

So great phone, nice display and smooth in operation but poor reception capabilty is my summary.

    • $190 a year ago for a phone with the same benchmark score as the HTC One X, now that was a bargain. Ignoring the Telstra online specials recently, if you walk into a Telstra shop and try to buy the Motorola Razr M today outright, no plan, no SIM, it will cost you $480.

    Get a iPhone.
    Trololol

  • I'm tempted by this but the camera sounds a bit average in the reviews I read. What do owners of this think?

  • When People bought this from TELSTRA prepaid, were they able to unlock it ?

    • I assume you mean unlock the bootloader thru the Motorola website. Answer yes. This allows you to load a new recovery image. I installed CWM v6.0.2.3 only because I am familiar with CWM and have had no issues; most xda users recommend TWRP. Then you can install root.zip which includes su in system space and a superuser apk in user space. Original Telstra firmware 9.8.2Q_SMUIRD-7_SEMEAUnlk_USAXT90501TLSTRAE1019.0R_SMJBLTEAUTEL_P008_A014_1FF_fb.xml.zip is available online so with custom recovery you can now reflash that if you need to.

If Motorola won't let you unlock your bootloader (US models) don't waste your time with the bootloader hacks out there, they do not work with the Telstra firmware.

If you mean is it SIM unlocked that is a different question. Mine was.

  • there is a endless no expiry same or better deal special at Telstra Hurstville Westfield. Just ask when in there.
