There has been talk on some forums that your VPS's have been oversold. Care to comment?

      Hi gregoz

We certainly do not oversell on our services. OpenVZ is a easy virtual platform to "oversell" on however, we closely monitor the resources on all of our nodes and when we see that we get close to a certain percentage in resource usage, we add another node to our server farm.

We also have a FAQ section where we have detailed this information for you to view as well
      - https://my.exigent.com.au/myaccount/knowledgebase.php?action…

      Hope this helps :)

        What is this "certain percentage"?

          HI A3Australia

This ranges between 60 to 65% disk and memory usage. We always ensure that we have sufficient disk space and memory on our nodes for those existing customers in case they ever need to upgrade their disk space or memory.

Had some bad experiences with this company, shutdown my server without telling me etc …

They definitely do oversell there VPS (6 months ago.. might have changed now)

    Would avoid

    • Hi Koey

We always inform any customer if we shut down their virtual server if they are using an excessive amount of CPU resources as we get the alerts for this type of event from each of our servers.

If you haven't receive the email, please by all emails contact us at [email protected] and we can see where the email may have gone.

I am new to all this, and have little 'technical' knowledge.

However, if one purchased this package with:-
        20GB Disk Space
        1GB Guaranteed Memory
        100Mbit Network Port
        500GB Monthly Bandwidth

and stayed within these limits (disk space used and monthly bandwidth used). Why would you shut them down?

I admit that I do not understand the bit about "an excessive amount of CPU resources". What are the CPU resources for this offer, and what amount of CPU resources are permitted per account, and how does the account holder know/monitor the amount of CPU resources they (their account) are/is using?

        Thanks.

        • Hi A3Australia

With the disk, memory, port limits, etc, these couldn't be exceeded on OpenVZ. With CPU resources, you're allocated 2x virtual CPU cores however, all cores are shared amongst virtual servers on OpenVZ.

Once we receive an alert notice that a virtual server is exceeding 4 CPU units or more, we monitor this carefully for a short period and if we see it doesn't stop, we than have to shutdown the virtual server to prevent it from affecting the performance of other virtual servers.

We understand that on virtual servers, applications like cPanel backups might run or cron jobs and so on, so we have some leniency for this type of stuff.

How can a VPS with 2 vCPU use 4CPUs? Max usage the VPS can use should be max out the 2vCPU they have?

        • Units are different to cores.

When you run the 'w' or 'top command and you see the info below

          w

          13:27:28 up 29 days, 14:29, 3 users, load average: 0.91, 1.09, 1.19

The 'load average' can be classified as 'CPU Units'.

  • How long is the price set for?

It is a month to month service, will the price ever go up?

    • Hi tlawson

We're setting the price for the life of the service being provisioned (we won't be changing the prices on this plan as it's a one time promotion we're running for Christmas). Once the service is cancelled though, we wouldn't be able to re-provision the virtual server with the same price though.

  • CPanel? How much more would it cost?

    • Hi eXtremist

Our cPanel licenses are available from $15/month.

      • Is there a cheaper alternative? It would need to allow easy migration from cPanel.

        • We have Kloxo and Webmin available and these control panels do not need any licenses. I do believe Kloxo allows for migrations from cPanel (please don't quote me on this) however, we do not use this platform ourselves but we simply provide it already installed with CentOS with our virtual server templates.

  • I've tried getting this deal but whenever I go through to registering the account it says the price is $10 per month.

Has anyone got this deal to work?

    • +1

      Hi BigSoz

We've had a influx of new sign ups from this deal this today. Are you sure that you are going to the Mega VPS plan page? Here is the URL just in case you might of missed it. http://www.exigent.com.au/mega-vps

      • It worked that time. Thanks Rep.

  • I was lost, you say from $5.95 here but the website clearly reads 'From $10.00/month' for Starter VPS-L1 the page you link to.
The link should be changed to point to the bargain not the company website.

    • Hi apoptygma

That would be our Starter VPS plans… We have listed our MEGA VPS plans today on our MEGA VPS page - http://www.exigent.com.au/mega-vps

Apologies if there was any confusion.

      • Well I just signed up, tried to avoid buying a new domain for $25 on top of the hosting price (there's no option to do this, I just had to put 'not applicable' in the 'existing domain' box, and my account is flagged as 'fraud' for some reason. not impressed so far.

        • Hi

This sounds like our fraud system built into the billing portal detected something during the registration period. Could you send an email through to [email protected] and we can see what triggered this and get this fixed for you.

For the domain name part…. You can select the third option to use your existing domain name and you can update your nameservers (but you do not have to do this). Just that the service requires a domain name so it can use it when assigning the hostname to the virtual server when provisioning it.

        • In the end it was quicker to just make a whole new account, now my server is 'not responding' and the tech staff are looking into it.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt because there's a promotion on at the moment but I grabbed some VPS'es during digital ocean's black friday promotion and things went a lot smoother.

        • We're aware of a bug in the VPS control panel that we use where if symbols are used in the password, it doesn't create the service correctly so we quickly fix this.

We've reported the bug to the developers of the control panel and hopefully in the future updates that they'll be releasing again soon, it'll fix this problem for us and many others that experience this bug as well.

Apologies for this and hopefully your new virtual server is all working for you now :)

  • Maybe the OP can change the main link to the actual deal, the link is "hidden" in the detail part of the post. Keep It Simple!

    Rep, I want to utilize 100% of all resources ( Disk / CPU / Memory ) 24 / 7 . Will you kick me out ?

    • You're welcome to use all 1GB of the virtual servers memory and 20GB of disk space, 24 x 7, this won't be an issue at all but please be reminded that if it reaches more than 4 or more CPU units continuously, it may get shut down.

We need to ensure that fair use of the virtual host is applied to all virtual servers, including yours as well.

    • Our MEGA plan is available for new customers only.
  • I've signed up - going to host Magento - is this ok with you OP?

If I'm not happy with speed - i would like to cancel my subscription please.
