Much better value than that Ozito $150 deal.
Makita, Hitachi and Milwaukee are the only three brands worth spending money on. (Dremel for toys)

    • Not sure why you were negged, you're 100% right. Well, you forgot DeWalt but whose keeping score?

      • Dewalt was on the list about 10 years ago.
Since they moved manufacturing from the US to china the quality has gone down hill and they haven't done a lot with R&D.

Yes they were once the better/best brand to buy. Now they are riding on the perception that they are good and marketing the brand well.

I will stand by my position of Makita, Hitachi and Milwaukee.
Actually you might be able to add Panasonic to it as well.
Just ask any tradie what they recommend and it will be one of those brands.

They will however recommend a Ozito hammer drill though.
They go hard for about 6 months then fail. All good since bunnings has 12 months warranty on it.
They say warranty isn't covered for trade use, but they have no way of telling and the ACCC would probably have something to say if they denied warranty on it's tools. (Ozito is Bunnings own brand made in china BTW)
No good for the home user though as you won't use it enough in the first 12 months to have it fail to get a new one.

        • My dewalt gear is made anywhere but China, my 18V rotary hammer drill is made in the Czech Republic with parts from Mexico for example and the others are all made in places like Mexico or the USA with none from China.

As for your claim that Bunnings owns Ozito that is absolutely incorrect, Ozito signed an exclusive deal to only supply Bunnings after Bunnings had done the same with GMC later terminating the agreement causing GMC to go broke (and later resurface as 909).

    • Dewalt is too.

      Bosch, especially the blue one!

      • I tend to agree. Panasonic was the only drill to have back in the nicad days, every tradie had one. Metabo is good but Bosch are struggling to be in that group because of different cheaper stuff they've put the Bosch name on, its been diluted.

Ryobi are cheap but they did the multi tool single battery thing right. The others didn't make it clear enough what battery goes with what tools and no indication of how long it would be supported/developed before the rug got pulled out from under you.

Ryobi right off the bat did the one+ line and the backwards compatable changeover to li-ion proved that they were in it for the long haul without trying to ripoff existing customers.

  • Holding out for the Ryobi One packs to come on sale.

As much as I prefer Makita, the Ryobi One's with the interchangable batteries and lots of gizmos to buy are much more appealing to try hard handy men such as myself :).

    • I did see some of those Ryobi packs (big wheelie case thing with maybe 8 skins?) at Bunnings Kotara NSW marked down to $600. They were at the front of the tool section at a clearance table. But, I know, photo or it didn't happen. I will try to get there again this week and snap a photo. Or you could call them for more details :-)

You realise Makita, Dewalt and Hitachi do the same thing as Ryobi One? And did it first, and better ;)

      e.g. http://www.sydneytools.com.au/categories/c8882-makita-cordle…

To take it to stupid extremes: http://www.sydneytools.com.au/categories/10205-makita-18v-li… … it's a bike. A goddamn battery powered push bike. Srsly, wtf.

      • that bike is awesome, not $599 awesome but

        • that bike is awesome, not $599 awesome but

$599 for a folding electric bike strikes me as cheap, but I don't know much about them in general, nor this one.

      • @ theredkrawler

I certainly do mate… I'd love a Makita set, but I'm too poor… even when its on sale.
I got an old Makita grinder almost older than I am (handed down from dad) thats still going strong!

  • grrrr masters are useless. their online stock levels don't ever seem to be correct. they seem to be out of stock of just about everything in power tools. back to bunnings …
