  • So Focal Price has free worldwide shipping?

Does anyone have experience buying from these guys? Looks like it could be a great company?

    • yes, i bought a S7189 for $150USD when it went on sale 5 months ago. Similar specs and the performance is good. took 3 weeks for delivery.

    • +1

I have purchased several times from Focal Price over the years. No problems so far!

    • +2

I once wanted to change an order soon after I made it. Absolutely no response whatsoever from Focalprice. Luckily it was just something small & trivial, but I wouldn't rely on them for customer service.

I'm sure others have their own stories.

    • +1

I had a bad experience buying from them. The phone I purchased, showed "in stock" and "will be shipped within 3-5 days". But even after 4 weeks it was not shipped.

After inquiring about it several times, the only response I got was it's out of stock and "we will provide and 5% coupon for your next purchase". After emailing them several times during the 4 weeks time, I finally had to raise a case with paypal to get the money refunded.

After this, I would never buy anything from them.

      • I am having bad experience placing an order with them too. No helpful response when a enquiry message was sent regarding the order place and the amount paid. The invoice is not showing any $ amount. The order was requested to be express shipped. No record of this in my account.

        • Good luck in getting quick response from them. I am pretty sure they will reply with the standard 5% coupon for next time.

  • judging from one of the pictures there is only one 3G sim slot. The second sim slot is 2G (GSM) only.

    • Most dual sim phones have 3G and 2G only.

It looks very much like a Samsung S4. Shame for the intellectual property…

    • +1

Its more like a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 instead. S4 has the flash below the camera. This one has on the side exactly like the note 2. :P

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes with Samsung branding too.

      • +1

oh wow - the photo showing the battery removed even says "N7100" on it.

    • That's funny because Samsung stole a lot of IP from Apple. Karma?

      • +3

I'd hate to see how much karma is headed apple's way. Xerox, vengeance will be served.

        • and the iphone from the original tablet (pc) design

        • Palm Folio for the win

  • +1

    Resolution 960x540

obviously you get what you pay for… but not even 720P on a 5.5 inch display? It won't be very pretty!

    • galaxy mega 5.8's screen resolution :/

    • lol nearly as good as an iphone

  • My question is how do cloners get away with making their phones this obvious in imitating another product, when Samsung gets sued by Apple for doing less than this? I've never remotely mistaken a Galaxy for an iPhone, but this is blatant, yet Samsung doesn't try to stop it?

    • It's hard to do that in China, that's why there's so many Samsung Apple HTC clones

    • +1

I think the whole world now are scared of China. Utterly out of control with them. China do not play in the rules but not much individual company can do against them. Think about Google, the outcome is Google pulling out of China.
I have seen those rogue companies displayed these Samsung-look phones in Cebit Australia last year. If Samsung had the ball to protect themselves they could have lodged legal request to have the company staffs and displayed items detained in Australia. What a shame of globalisation! Totally distorted under rogue power.

      • I saw these phones at CeBit too, those Chinese reps were kidding themselves couldn't believe the amount they wanted for them and the minimum numbers they wanted to push. One idiot asked me if I was from a network, and that they only dealt with networks. What a group, I could have saved them a lot of time and money by telling them that no network in Oz is touching their phone with a barge pole, they could have worked that out over the phone for free.

I used to do acceptance testing for phones, the amount of time and money going into the testing of a phone is significant, enough that a lot of phones used to get rejected, and not just because they aren't good one the network. If the phone so any issues someone is likely to complain about, it's dead in the water.

    • My question is how do cloners get away with making their phones this obvious in imitating another product

If they sell enough units, they will be sued.
The more progressive Chinese companies branching out into international markets and building up their brands don't do this. They innovate more with their designs and engineering.

      • China is a law unto itself. They get on with business and to hell with everyone else. I understand they have only purchased one copy of Microsoft office and everyone in china has it. (Probably a slight exaggeration)

        • Funny though, when it comes to Hollywood movie they don't even buy the one copy, some dude with a hi8 camera and a very short tripod films it and everyone watches that

      • They may be sued in the states, but you will find they don't have offices there, they are all coming via Ali Express so the only people who are targets are the sellers, and u probably can't feasibly sue 500 sellers and make a profit

    • +2

Apple actually uses legal action to drive away competition.

Samsung doesn't find these phones as a threat since premium pricing is a huge part of the equation with today's society. People who buy these phones won't be looking at anything over $200 anyways, even the nexus is out of the question.

  • I look like Samsung note 2, did anyone here be able to give a benchmark comparison with the Note 2?

    • +1

MT6589 is pretty close to the CPU of the One X (Tegra 3) and the S3… So you most likely won't be disappointed. But the resolution of this one is horrible, I'd probably pay $80 more for a 1080p screen… Or even $30 more for a 720p screen.

      • I struggle to see a difference between 720 and 1080, if it meant a few more hours of battery life I would take a 720 for sure

        • I'm a bit of a resolution whore… So I can't really tolerate anything else now other than 1080p after I started using my HTC one…, but that's just me.
Although if the screen is over say 5" you do see quite a difference between 720p and 1080p.

        • I have the same phone, still can't tell a difference from my Lumia and I don't wear glasses

      • +1

The magic inch sizes - to take one crude measure, retina —
        look something like 4.5± & 6.7±" for 720, 1080 respectively.

turning point 5.5", if you like. Otherwise, yes 'invisible'.

I'd say whilst the former tend to suit traditional phones e.g, like the apple, it is the more innovative (6- 7)phablet designs, bolstering demand for the latter.

  • Still got that characteristic black bar at the top; ..I wonder if there's any insight to when Google might ply unofficial versions of its intellectual property/ v4.4> & jump start, wrap these gadgets into it. Tips on the 1st Chinease- Co.?

I think v19 the API has been out a few months since October _Time to crank from 1% > 10%?

Youtube video of this phone if you understand Spanish. It contains benchmark, photos and video sample taken using this phone.

I can't see why anyone would pay more than 200 bucks for a phone these days, mine cost more but work provides it, I wouldn't ever lock myself into a contract or pay more than 200 bucks outright for anything any more

  • We ordered 2 phones and they took the payment from our bank account then sent an email asking for personal details; copies of the bank card, copy of passport or driver license and for us to print the order, sign it, scan it and return it. Telling us if we did not comply they would cancel the order. It is not acceptable for them to process the payment then ask for verification after the fact. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/131697 I do not trust this company and wonder if we will get our money returned.
