    Thanks TA.

Should help for the BBQ next weekend :)

I wonder if anyone else here is thinking about clearing freezer space? :P

    • Have you frozen them before? They still taste ok?

I know they usually last only 2 days in the fridge before they taste abit funny after you cook it in the bbq

      • +1

I've done it a few times, no problems for me!

      • +3

They taste funny if you cook them straight away, they are awful, and only good for kids.

        • +2

          That's mean.

        • We call them sawdust sausages. I actually love 'em, no bbq is complete without one in a roll with some sauce

  • +3

I have had woolworths sausages and they are not the same as butcher sausages.

    • +40

I have driven Toyota car and it is not the same as a Lamborghini car.

      • +1

I'm not sure where you get your sausages from nexus4 but I think you're paying a bit too much mate. Comparing analogies should take into some equivalent value so I'm going to go by these ratios:

        Cars:
        Base Toyota Car (Avg): $26,000
        Base Lamborghini: $400,000

For each Lamborghini you get roughly 15.38 Toyotas (and a few spare tyres).

        Sausages:
        Woolworths 2kg: $5
        Butchers 2kg: $15

For each Butchers 2kg of Sausages you get 3 packs of Woolworths sausages.

        Hope this helps!

From the times I have gone to Melbourne for example it has been hard to find a decent butcher with decent sausages at a fair price.

But in Adelaide it is quite easy.

Here the local butcher does 2kg for $8 easily better than woolworths ones and cheaper most days apart from when they are on special.

        • +1

he might be savoring his for those processed ear, snout & cheek" stuffs etc, #sausages;-)

        • I wonder how woolies sausages are made. they are very playdoh like Texture and no colour.

Butcher sausages still have a meat texture and smell and taste a lot better.

        • +4

Im doing a report on the beef industry at the moment and from a recent industry publication, I saw 80% of the meat sold in the major supermarkets is from feedlot 'farming'. Im not saying anyones a bad person for buying a few snags on special, but have a look into what the cows are fed, and general feedlot production. I doubt you'd get the best parts of the best animals and the monopoly only pushes retail prices for small producers and small butchers up.

        • treeman, which butcher?

        • Frugal hermit, Seaford Butcher in Seaford Shopping Centre.

        • Actually just went today and they have gone up to $8.90 this might just be due to Australia Day coming up and they know everyone is going to buy them anyway, still good value. :)

  • Any ice cream on sale for this weeks heatwave TA?

    • +5

Yep, Drumstick varieties 4 pack for $3.79 at Coles. Also, Peters Light 2 litre tubs are half price as well.

  • +2

Woolworths sausages are pretty bad. At this price, beggars can't be choosers. :-)

    • +4

they are good for adding that layer of grease you need for cooking the chicken or other novelties.

and the kids get fed very quick.

    • Was that bangers can't be choosers :-)

  • +6

mmmmmmmm the lips, the nose, the asshole and many more unmentionables, all crammed together into one delicious package

    • +2

crammed together in the lower intestine of a pig

      YUM!

i like sausages but these are really too bland to eat… must have too much non meat filler inside

  • +4

    Woolworths snags are THE WORST

    • +1

IGA are the worst that I've encountered.

  • +2

Many 50% specials next week TA?

  • Thats a pretty good price on the drinks. Usually they go on sale for $2. I'll pick up a few at the price of $1.50 each.

  • +2

I've had these before for $2 per 2 kg pack.

Just a warning, they're the worst sausages I've ever smelt or tasted. The ingredients list "Meat" — not beef, lamb, or pork, "Meat". They have an unpleasant odour upon unwrapping, cooking and consuming. The filling is very light-pink in colour and they seep a whole heap of grease. They also contain shards of hard white material, possibly cartilage or bone. Buyer beware!

    • -2

      And now I'm starving….mmmmmmm sausages

      • +3

$5 is a rip off if you cant stomach the whole 2kg… dont buy it

its not fit to feed to pets let alone kids

        • -1

never gone a day without a meal your whole life, good for you

        • +2

You can buy chicken marylands, thighs or drumsticks from Woolies for far less than $2.50 per kilo.

  • +4

Yuck supermarket sausages…the only half decent ones are the low fat Coles one.

Bought the Costco ones the other week and they were great, butcher quality!! I know where I will be getting my snags in the future…

    • And more sawdust in those sausages and you could build a small chair out of them.

Who the hell buys this stuff?

      • +1

Actually, if you look at the label the homebrand sausages often have more 'meat' content than the upper market ones. What that 'meat' is I dont know; but its not sawdust or other filler. Some of the more expensive ones are less than 80% meat content.

        • +1

From the Choice article I posted earlier:
If you see “meat” in the ingredients list, the product may contain “the whole or part of the carcass of any buffalo, camel, cattle, deer, goat, hare, pig, poultry, rabbit or sheep, slaughtered other than in a wild state”.

        • +1

Its funny when it will be labelled something like chicken sausages, and the chicken content is less than 50%. :)

  • +1

If anything, get specific "Beef" sausages from Woolworths. "Meat" sausages should be taken with a pinch of salt. Or maybe not, because it's already got enough grease…

    • +1

you say "grease" like it's a bad thing

  • +6

So what I hear you all saying is the title should read 'Roadkill in Durex'?

  • +1

Regardless whether or not people like them or not, its a good deal!!
Ideal for large BBQs! Not sure if I have enough freezer space though
    ++ for me

  • +1

    eeeeewwwwwww :/
imagine how much goodness is NOT in them

  • +1

After a few unsatisfactory sausage offerings from the supermarkets, I started buying sausages from the David Jones food halls at Sydney CBD or Bondi Junction. The basic snags there are really nice and not too expensive if you buy in 2 or 3 kilo quantities and freeze. If you have access to a DJ food hall, suggest you give them a try. The mince is also good value and quality.

  • snags ? to fork or not to fork is the question

  • FRONT PAGE - Sausages with almost no real meat content and full of grease and salt. Drink with marginal fruit content and a whole bunch of sugar.

No wonder Australia has an obesity epidemic. Diabetes here we come!!

PS: Good deal so + from me.
PPS: I wouldn't be caught dead buying it.

    • -3

Look at the nutritional information before you make yourself look like an idiot.
Sausages Thin Beef BBQ - Beef 70%.
If you think a measly 20g of sugar is going to exacerbate our obesity rates you have another thing coming.
At the end of the day ALL carbohydrates are going to be converted to a simple sugar (glucose), it's just that your body does not have to degrade the long chain of carbohydrates. Sugar nazi's are so irrit. The only people who should be concerned with their sugar intake are people with diabetes who cannot control their insulin levels, and really.. those poppers contain 25% more fruit than your average can of cola.

      • Say wut?

Everyone should watch their sugar/carb intake. Your attitude is why type II diabetes is becoming an epidemic. Most type II diabetics are so because of the sugars and other carbs they eat. Its not inevitable, its diet.

Psst, fruit is not good for diabetics either. They are limited to two pieces a day of fresh fruit, juices and the like are not recommended. For some perspective, some vegies are limited too.

Not all type II diabetics are diabetics due to a dozen donuts a day washed down with milkshakes and cola. In fact many eat what most would consider not that unhealthy. Its things like juice for example that have a false sense of healthy. They are not good for you.

        • simple. if you are a diabetic or know you have an insulin deficiency limit your carbohydrate intake! as i said, any carbohydrate whether it be fructose or starch will be converted to glucose. and in the case your body lacks the necessary hormones to absorb glucose (insulin) then monitoring your glucose levels to avoid hyperglycemia is vital. HOWEVER, the majority of HEALTHY individuals with a HEALTHY fully functioning pancreas which releases ADEQUATE insulin to absorb the glucose, it is not a problem.
I am not however condoning you to get all your carbohydrates from sugar, as you will run into several problems such as fibre deficiencies and in extremely high doses of sugar, insulin deficiency. A sugar box a day containing 20g of sugar is not going to be as problematic as gimme makes it out to be.
Also, out of curiosity, what does 'healthy really mean.

        • Sadly youre shutting the gate after the horse has bolted and confusing Type I diabeties with type II. No one who is diabetic needs advice from people over the net about what to avoid. They get plenty of it from professionals with ongoing guidance.

But as individuals and as a society, its wiser to avoid Type II diabetes in the first place. People who yesterday were not diabetics, find out they in fact are, every day. BUT at some point they were right, they were not diabetics. They were not undiagnosed diabetics, they had normally functioning pancreases and were in the context of diabetes, normal. Something changed, and it wasnt an overdose of lollies or coke. Its a systemic prolonged exposure to modern convenience and flavour. Many of these people dont eat a lot of crap, but they dont drink water either, they drink juice, sport or milk drinks etc thinking they are healthier. Muesli bars instead of a Cherry Ripe etc. But this isnt true, its not healthier overall. It might be considered better than a Coke and a Violet Crumble, but its not good when we consider the bodys ability to process carbs. People eat and drink too much ready flavour and taste.

A lack of exercise doesnt help, but if youre a nutritionist then you might want to keep up to date with the realities of diabetes and a western diet. One box of sugar juice wont hurt, but a box a day, over decades likely will. Obviously there are more factors here, but a box a day is indicative of the rest of the diet. Again, Im not suggesting its donuts laced with chocolate mouse, dusted in icing sugar. It takes less than most people think. Thats why we are at epidemic numbers for it, and not just Aus, but much of the advanced world.

What does healthy really mean? Well in this case, not diabetic at any time in their life will do.

        • -1

Wow, thanks for actually putting out a well written response unlike the immature comments from gimme.
Whilst type 1 diabetes is as you stated, a genetic disorder and usually diagnosed at a young age, and type 2 typically being more commonly related to sedentary behaviour and excessive sugar intake causing insulin deficiency. I agree that 'fast food' era has had detrimental effects on Australia's health profile.

And I too, would not recommend people to 'binge' on sugar dense foods, but in the context of this bargain, I thought it was a well discounted item. I'm not saying you should go out and stock your shelves to last you for the rest of the year, I was just trying to assure Tuba that the product was not as atrocious and as high sugar as he has been made out to believe. In regards to sugar content, compare the nutritional information to a sports drink or flavoured milk. Moderation is key, I just didn't think i'd have to make it blatantly obvious not to source all your carbohydrates from sugar. I have not specifically read articles on the quantity of sugar needed to increase the risk of insulin deficiency. A major impact on the prevalence of T2DM is physical activity, which is a completely different topic which doesn't need to be discussed.

If you have any credible articles relating to quantities of sugar and insulin resistance I'd gladly read them, however assuming you ensure you are not eating in a caloric surplus and moderate your sugar intake you have nothing to worry about unless you are a current or at risk of being diabetic. Again, I'm not condoning you to consume large amounts of sugar, but there is no reason for gimme to preach his opinion on a subject he/she has little knowledge about, as people interested in this deal should be able to make their own decisions without being told what is and what isn't healthy.

      • +1

LOL @ 70% Beef. Looks like you have fallen for the oldest trick in the book. You need to look at exactly what's in it. e.g ears are technically beef. Not to mention all the fat salt and chemicals. Go get yourself a half decent cut of meat and see how many kgs $5 would buy you.

One of us looks like an idiot but I'm pretty sure I know who.

Your ignorance doesn't surprise me at all. In fact you are exactly what the stats show. Blissfully oblivious. It's just a shame my taxes pay for your Medicare.

        • -2

I have a degree in nutrition. Don't make blatant assumptions just because you don't agree with other peoples opinions.
I'm not advocating people to binge on sugar, everything in moderation. However seeing people being so judgemental on topics they have little knowledge in is annoying.

        • hahaha 'degree in nutrition' from the college of internet BS.

I didn't think someone with such a degree would be advocating $5 sausages and 25% fruit juice drinks.

Glad you don't have a degree in aeronautics.

        • This is a bargain site. $5 for 2kg of sausages is a steal! And more than half price off fruit poppers is also a bargain. I'm just trying to explain why you have such a wrong biased view on simple foods. It may be displeasing to find the beef in your sausages has come from multiple sources from the animal, but your body works on thermodynamics, not on what it looks like. There's no added 'grease', and salt is used a natural preservative.
I find it pretty comical that you have nothing useful to actually back up your agruement apart from personal insults. I'm not surprised as you probably have only read a one page article on 'why sugar is bad' from an article on news.com

        • Simple - I backup my argument with this fact. 35%+ Adult Obesity. Must admit it's good for business though for so called nutritionists. Self Preservation is the name of the game I suppose.

    • for cheap snags…if you like them

I bought some the last time it was cheap and it is definitely quite different in texture and taste to normal supermarket snags.

As per a comment above, "play doh" like texture which was surprisingly orange and the casing felt a lot thicker than usual and I could actually chew on it like it was a piece of fat.

Removed the meat mixture from the remaining snags to make burger patties instead as I was hating the casings, after pan frying the self made patties there was about a cup of oil…and I started with none!

    • With these cheap snags I can't stand them cooked in a pan but like them on a BBQ. Be careful as there's so much fat in them that you'll get flare-ups on your bbq. Once the fat has cooked out of them they're good.

  • It's made from your genuine animal products! CMOT Dibbler loves em

  • +1

Okay, on the subject of the Prima, Summer Protip: put them in the freezer over night and then snip the top off them for a cheap and tasty 'Sunnyboy' style icy pole! They were will come in at 25c each!

  • 2kg BBQ Sausages $5.00 (Save $5.38)

cheaper than aldi but not better than my butcher :)
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/112944

  • Did anyone buy the sausages yet?

I do not usually eat these western sausages, as I buy the cheaper chinese sausages that are rock hard. I did walk around for 1 hour at my store inspecting veggies to snoop on what people were buying and I found most were purchasing the one with a picture of the cow on it, but they looked overpriced compared to the local butcher.

The $5 ones only say 70% meat, but not beef… Contrary to the comments above. Looks like it might be kangaroo, mouse, dog, deer, sheep, pony and other meat pie style meats. My local woolies is still stocked with full shelves of this meat…

    • Buy it, cook it and give it to your dog. If it doesn't eat it then you'll know it's not good, if it eats it and there's none left, then it's definitely doing you a favor.

Alternatively give it to your nutritionist. Apparently they recommend it.
