Basically you use your $450 of Vodafone flexi credit to buy heaps of 350mb data packs.

its 1.5 gb better than getting 3 x $30 telstra 'ipad' sim packs at $10 ea but it is fiddly.
there are no $30 telstra sim pack for $10 specials on now anyway. ($15 at 7/11 tho till feb 3)
)

Apparently this may not work after Jan 31 so get onto asap in case.

i saw this on the forums / whirlpool and thought others may have missed it.

you will need a voda compatable wifi modem / hotspot phone.

Telstra elite Wifi (MF60)works well(unlocked). (On Back to school special at Coles $29 BTW).(using it and Voda Data pack to do this). Just be aware to get the DATA pack called Favourites Add-on, you need to have SIM in a phone connected to the data network (ie Can't do it online or via WiFi on phone. Use the Vodafone central app, then select pack, THEN need to wait 3 minutes before adding another. So 30 CAP plan recharge, most sims default to the Flexicap, make sure you change this, online select when recharging, phone with voucher after you add value, it gives you the option to select CAP plan.
CAP $30 = 450 flexible credit \ $16 (not 8) =350mb, do this 28 times PLUS 1GB B4 31 Jan, normally 500mb) = 10.57GB valid for 30 Days, charged in Kbs (Convert to data just before your 28 days credit expires, and get 2 months worth out if it. Data has separate expiry date see T&C's http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/Retaining-unused…
ALSO 2GB HARD limit (in one session) imposed by network.
ALSO 1GB included data is used AFTER Favourites addon , so use this first, then add data pack.(or bit both, whatever, just use it or lose it 28days from first plan recharge)
FYI the $70 CAP is best value =32.8GB or $2.13GB as apposed to Mobile Broadband at $14.50GB.(VODA MBB 29 for 2GB)
NO scam, nothing illegal and all within current T&C's. How long it lasts, well let's see :) After Peenytel(sic) went from 25 to 99.99 or $7.19GB this is the next best thing IMHO. YMMV e&oe etc etc"

I know a secret to help you get laid and have a wealth of friends and happiness. But I'm not going to tell you- nah-uh.

      P.S. It's not being a cheapskate.

    • keen to learn + keep secret if you'd care to Pm it eastern.
only tip i'm aware is keep data <0.5 kb you can send uncharged short message; 2nd if you chance upon their 'meter' being down then T can hardly measure.

      EC and the usual crap.

    • Ah - not some field trial prog. as you allege to have used 1y< 600gb. /

would have made the news#WP in any case. :-)

    • cool story

  • aparently this may not work after jan 31 so get onto asap in case.

    Source?

I think he means the double data (500mb to 1gb)

    • +1

I think they're referring to the voda website. the 1GB bonus probably reverts to 0.5gb, no biggy. I imagine the 28*0.35gb favourite packs stays current.

  • BTW how do you use flexi credit to buy more data?

I'm on voda prepaid and its like a dead end. Won't let me allocate credit towards data. Only wants my credit card.

    Am newbie with this thing

    Thanks

    • It's called the "favourites pack".

      • Yes. Won't let me use the flexi credit.

  • Just remember the datapacks get used first.. followed by original 1gb data if you run out of data packs.

    • for highlighting that this is no scam and within t&c's

That pennytel was sick! Out of the blue went to $100 from 25!
I wonder if they wanted any customer!

    • Pennytel are the worst company ever!! People used to tolerate their crappy service because they were so cheap. Now they are just crap.

Pennytel used to have a 14GB/month plan for $25. They increased the price to $99.99 with less than 2 weeks notice just before Xmas.

phew Thanks op for making it sound complex, we don't want this getting too popular.

I currently have over 27GB of 4G data on my account. shit is craeeeee.
I got 4.5MB/s in brisbane city on my nexus 5.

  • so this tedious process of using the flexi credit to buy 28 blocks of 350mb only gets you 30+28 days of data?

    • 28 + 2 days + extra days

Is a possibility as the double recharge value+ data allowance offer ends 31/1/2014. Recharge after that you only get 175mb per $8 crazy credit.

SO pretty much you need to estimate how much you are likely to use in 28 days and recharge that amount as double data.

  • im on voda red plan, so i get scammed here and dont get to use any add ons as i dont have any flex credit?

    • This is prepaid what we are talking about , you are on a contract with a free phone. Cough up for an outright phone and get on prepaid :P. So you did not get scammed, you got what you signed up for.

      • true. cant really say the phone is free though as i am paying $15 a month for it or some disaster. $65 voda red + 15 phone (jumped to voda red mid plan)

  • They are ending the ability to buy data packs with prepaid credit from April 1, after that you will need to buy a $5 voucher using your own money online or in a store.
