SAMSUNG 50" (127cm) Full HD LED TV UA50F5000 $646.20 http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/samsung-50-127cm-full-hd-led… is also a very good deal

    EDIT: out of stock

  • just wondering….have you received your TV yet?

  • +14

You're joking right? I purchased it less than 30mins ago. That would be some amazing service :-D

    • i didn't realise that you just ordered

the reason I asked is that dse have an abysmal record with their online store

i really hope your transaction is fine but my bet is you will need to call the accc or open a paypal dispute

      • +9

Umm. I'm going to bet the other way and say he'll get everything as ordered :D

        • +2

I placed an order for a TV in December and have been informed 3 times that it would be shipped after which it was not. They have assured me this time (their forth attempt) that it will actually be shipped. Be prepared for the possibility that you may have to waste a lot of time dealing with poor customer service (I have wasted ~10 hours of my time so far).

        • +3

so you are saying you spent about 2-3 hours each time talking to them……..

        • Try contacting their head office.

        • +3

ordered a ps3 controller…last year when it was on special and in stock online, got the tracking info on the 30/12/13, since then the tracking info has not been updated, called them >5 times, more than 10 emails, opened dse helpdesk account and opened 3 tickets so far(helpdesk staff have closed them as "resolved" without even replying!!!).2 weeks ago I got an automated mail saying that dse is experiencing technical difficulties fulfilling my order and in the very next paragraph it said that the problems have been solved and i would hear from them soon. Got the same email 10 days ago and last week I even got an invoice! Called again DSE and they wanted to offer me a refund, I refused and I'm still waiting :)

I ordered one of these TV's in the ozbargain post around midnight last night. Received shipping confirmation around 10am this morning. Can't complain with that.

        • Also received shipping confirmation this morning. Even rang to confirm and was informed the courier had picked it up 2day and would be receiving it in a couple of days :-)

        • Mine is shipped by StarTrack Road. I couldn't find it listed anywhere but figured it out in the end.

  • Not a huge bargain. 51" full HD Samsung plasmas have been sold for as low as $495 at Harvey Norman last year.

    • Really? Aww, I pulled the trigger on this instantly as it was the cheapest I'd ever seen it
…mustn't have been looking hard enough. Would've bought 2 at that price :-(

Still happy tho as I almost paid $717 :-)

      • It wasn't the same model that was $495, though. It was a 2012 model, not a 2013 one. Not sure if there's any difference or not.

        • +1

The 2012s are the PS51E531 and PS51E550, the latter being the smart version.

The 2013 model is lighter in weight (~8kg), has a better stand and the menus were rearranged.
          The remotes are identical.

An odd thing with the PS51F5000: shine a bright torch at the bezel, you'll see it's not actually black, but dark brown. Mine is anyway.

      • +1

not really true, MrZ. Maybe 1 or 2 reports of that happening (probably floor stock). I've kept an eye on the samsung FullHD plasma range over the past few years, and this is probably the best price.

It's just disappointing that it doesn't have 3d and smart TV for same price like the 2012 model.

  • Why isn't it smart?

    • Uh, because it's an F5000 series?

  • +1

Proof? I think they were LG

  • Thanks, my old plasma started snowing green last week so pulled the trigger on this.

  • +6

Good price but I won't order from DSE Online ever again. Their customer service is down right horrible. Definitely the worst I have come across. If things go wrong good luck trying to sort it out. All you will get is BS.

    • +1

Big Screen?? I hope so :-D

  • +2

I'll admit I have never had a bad experience with DSE online, 2 large plasma purchases and a few other smaller items and smooth sailing every time, not every transaction is bad.

    • +6

      Doesn't warrant a negative sachz.

      • +3

sorry guys, i pushed the wrong button - i tried to un-select it, but it didnt work. my bad.

    • +1

      People don't have time machines

      • I'd prefer if the memory wiping gadget from men in black was made so I can wipe my short term memory right now :)

        • It's like bongs had never been invented

  • I find they have stellar service in store at least. My Mrs and I had to drive back from Melb, in two cars. I bought some hand held UHFs. They worked great as comms but didnt scan very well (too slow). Regardless, they gave us comms from Melb to Qld, and then went back to Dickies. No problems.

    • +2

I have no idea what you're talking about.

      • Why?

  • 50" Plasma for less than $640? This is quite a deal.

    • -4

51" full HD Samsung plasmas have been sold for as low as $495 at Harvey Norman last year.

      • Link(s)?

        • This was in April 2013, so no links I'm afraid. May be offered for the same price in April this year as that seems to be when they clear out the old models. Wait for Easter sales.

    • -1

There have been 50 inch plasmas selling (on occasion) at or around $550 since at least 2011.

      • Not full HD ones. Only the 51" Samsung last year @ HN , that I'm aware of.

  • -8

This is a great deal but plasma tv's certainly are not future proof. Take lifetime and power usage into account when buying guys.

    • +3

How is buying say, an LCD TV today any more future proof?

    • +1

you want a future proof tV? maybe wait for another 40 year

    • What sort of power usage does a 4K TV utilise?

      • Power usage has nothing to do with the resolution of a TV. It will be determined by the size and type of display.

    • +1

don't really need to take into account power usage when comparing modern Plasmas VS LED's.

60inch screens will be a difference of ~$90 over ONE year based on comparing these two TV's as an example:
      http://www.binglee.com.au/lg-60ph6700-60-fhd-3d-plasma-tv
      http://www.binglee.com.au/lg-60ln5710-60-151cm-full-hd-smart…
      Plasma has 694kwh/year
      LED has 352kwh/year

The difference is 342kwh/year which equates to less than $90 over a year ($7.50 per month) - based on 25c/kwh.
This is also assuming you watch 10HOURS of TV per day. Let's say you watch 5HOURS of TV a day because we work or go to school most of our day THEN your usage cost is halved…

I personally watch everyday TV on a LED smaller TV and watch Sport/Movies on a plasma in a cinema type room.

I would assume smaller screens will have smaller differences in power consumption. You'll save a lot more by getting your kwh rate lower from your energy supplier - you won't save much when comparing tv consumption of Plasma vs LED

You compare TV's by watching them (deciding on your needs/uses)

      • So the Plasma is double the price in electricity.
An extra $90/year is quite a lot. also consider I actually pay 28c/hkw right now (cheapest according to all comparison sites). So that's $100/yr.
Likely to increase every year too.

In 6.5 years (or less), the LED/LCD TV of a similar value would pay for itself compared to a Plasma. Or you could buy a $1000 one and get a top-end model and it'd end up at the same price after 3.5 years.

        • If you can't tell the difference between watching a plasma or LCD, or you actually preferred the image of the LCD, then no plasma would be a deal, regardless of any "savings" in electricity.

Interestingly, the "equivalent" LCD version of my plasma actually cost more.

        • yes that's a saving of $100/year IF you watch your tv 10 HOURS per day.

I personally don't watch that much… it's hard to watch that much everyday and if it is your only TV

Btw I pay 26c/kWh in QLD

      • Don't know about you, but an extra $50-100 of running costs/year is VERY significant.

Would much rather prefer LED TVs, especially as they're about the same price when on special as well.

Also aside from the monetary issues- we should all be doing our part to reduce electricity and fossil fuels for the environment.

        • Comparing identical screens (for viewing experience) then yes it is very significant

"…plasma is the equivalent of LCD/LED in lifespan as a technology, though there is variation among brands and models….In fact, many plasma manufacturers boast a life span of 100,000 hours to half life! This is a longer life than a tube based television. The specification is somewhat suspect since the process of determining longevity of the product is based on deductive mathematical calculation of phosphor dissipation, and does not take into account the electronic components and the myriad of problems that can occur. Panasonic was the first to claim the 60,000 hour life span, up from a previous 30,000 just a year prior and now Samsung, LG and Panasonic claim 100,000 hours to half life."

  • -1

Most of there cheap TVs are series 4-5 very old that's why it's cheap, for series 7 around that price makes more sense.

    • +1

You have no clue. The 51" Samsung plasma is only offered in series 5. In fact, there are only series 5 & 8 plasmas offered in Australia. Maybe you're thinking of LCDs.

  • So is this a good deal?

    • +2

      Do it. Do it now

  • +1

    Bought. Thanks.

  • i bought the 55" f7100 and got the email today saying its shipped with startrack with tracking no.

    • Unless you have received a separate email with an invoice, you are being had.
Many have received shipping notices with tracking numbers from dickies before, only to find out the tracking number is invalid and dickies never shipped the item.

      • I received a separate email with an invoice yesterday around lunch and called to confirm. Tv has been picked up by the courier and should be here in a day or 2. Very happy :-)

I really hope they're not pulling my leg…

        • +1

You've got the invoice, so it looks good.
Should receive your stuff today or so.

  • +2

My tv was delivered 2day- very happy. Hope all that ordered receive theirs soon :-)

  • +2

got mine today aswell, all good looks great

  • Rang DS to see where my tv was as they said it was shipped on 11 Feb. Got the run around and then was told Startrack had lost it!!! After reading comments posted on OzB about DS I thought I was going to go through the whole rigmarole of having to chase them up - then the TV arrived. I was so excited I just signed the machine and let the delivery driver go. It was then that I noticed the box had damage and just didn't look right. I took photos and then opened it up and, low and behold, the screen crunched in my hand. It has taken a fair whack to the front and smashed the panel…. I have logged a complaint and sent the photos so we will see how this goes for me now. Lucky it was only for the bedroom. What really p!sses me off is that I had almost given myself a hernia taking down the 13 year old 76cm CRT that we were still using - only to have to put it back !!!

    • Yeah those old suckers are damn heavy !

Sucks about it being broken, it happens unfortunately. My very first plasma screen purchased many moons ago had a broken screen when opened, nearly cried lol

Hopefully it gets sorted with minimal hassle.

    • Srry 2 hear :-(
Really hope they send you a replacement asap.
