Need a better camera (or less shaky hand :) Here's specification on ASUS' website. What's missing from this deal is — is this 8GB or 16GB version? I suspect 16GB as that seems to be the model being sold elsewhere in Australia.

This one also has MediaTek MTK8125 quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, whereas some reviews only have older dual-core version.

    • it's sad to know that it is not available in NSW.

    • Looks like 8GB scotty.
Just got one fr the Mrs and its showing "3.8GB available/1GGB used" after filling up with favorite apps and a few photos.

      Model number - K00U
      Android version - 4.2.2

      Antutu Score: 13193
      CPU -1209MHz x 4
      RAM - 264/994MB

Sound quality is pretty decent and perhaps from the specs better in the 8GB version for some reason? In the specs it says:
      Audio
      Stereo Speakers (16G version)3
      High Quality Speaker (8G version)
      3

Not sure I want to live in a world where "HD" is 1280x800, but I guess it's okay for the price.

    • +1

The HD stands for Horrible Display perhaps?

    • +15

first world problems? your lucky because normal HD is 1280 x 720

      • Apart from the grammar, I believe this is correct, why the negs?

On a 7" screen, that is over 200 dpi, so yes it is high-def. The cheapies are 480x800.
And it is enough for better-quality video that the so-called hi-def TV we have in Australia.

    • Ok, beaten by Scotty to put the specs up. But the memory, resolution and camera seem to be the lacking features of this tablet. Pretty good for the price though! Would be cool if we had access to the memory module and upgrade it :(

    • This pretty much looks like the 1st generation nexus 7 specs

      • PLUS a 5 MP cam & uSD card slot…

        • I just called Coles and they are only the 8GB version with 2MP camera….still decent price for a Brand name tab, but not an insane bargain. The Acer A1-810 for $70 (after cashback) back in Oct last year was insane, but I missed that one!

  • Thanks Op!…

The specs look ok…might grab one during lunch today. Does anyone know this can be rooted?

Does anyone know this can be rooted?

      probably if you drop it…

        There is also the 1 x Audio jack: Head phone/Mic / 1 x Card reader (Micro-SD up to 32G)…

        • Hasn't been any mention of Ainol on here for a while….

          …until now.

    • I am not sure if this is the exact tablet. But if you want to root the tablet, this is probably your best site to check.

  • OP: Can you please list the Superstores?

    • Sorry took that pic while running out the door this morning. Don't have the catalogue on me. I think it's the stores that have things like clothes and tvs in them

        • haha nice tab!

        • That table has the 'Y' factor.

    • no WA :(

      • so sad…..

        • have you finally seceded?

        • Seceded? I wish!

        • seems like it will take much longer than 100 years.

    • I'm told that only Superstores are able to apply the "first one FREE" policy, after a price error, when a -discounted- item generates it.

Also, Superstores are in "better" suburbs, I understand…

  • +1

    Pity no Officeworks pricematch :(

  • Appears to be good for the price?

I'm looking for something to bring to uni to read/take notes and use to read pdf files and ebooks. And generally productivity stuff like my calendar.

Do you peeps think this will suit or can suggest something better still under $150?

    • +3

      Full review is here http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-Memo-Pad-HD-7-Table…

I think is really nice deal and you can definitely do all the stuff.

      • +1

That review was great and fairly in depth. Better than most 1-2 line "reviews" on sites.

        • I found this site few years ago and now is my #1 for daily reading + when I want to check notebook/phone and rest before buying.

  • "Coles 'Superstores'"? Oh, I thought that was Target :P

  • $128 delivered from Centrecom.
Includes a FREE 32GB card and a cover.

    • +3

I believe that's the old version

      • Ahhh I see

      • +3

Agree. It's dual core. But thanks to the poster BTRaynes for doing some legwork to find cheaper alternatives.

        • Also starts its life with Android 4.1

      • Also good value for this price with all extras.

  • Coles aspley hypermarket in brisbane north has stock.

      Hypermarket

What? Soon there will be ultramarkets, and then superspectacularouttathisgalaxymarkets.

Too far Coles. Supermarket seemed to already define having all the stuff you sell in a single store.

      Edit: I'm wrong

  • Has stock been confirmed anywhere? I'm looking for a new tablet and this seems perfect.

  • +1

Not quite worth it when you can get a Nexus 7 (refurb, but they are actually mostly new ones with full 1 yr warranty) for $129 as well. This one is stuck on Android 4.2, whereas Nexus 7 will be updated till Key Lime Pie.

    • Where is this Nexus 7?

    • No memory card slot on Nexus though….

Ah, innocent times. 1965, the year in which I was possibly conceived. No one would have batted an eyelid if you'd asked for a Rough Gaytime.

        • "No one would have batted an eyelid if you'd asked for a rough gaytime"

          They wouldnt have dared.

    • +4

Where are you getting the Nexus 7s for $129?

n BTW there is no "Key Lime Pie" version of Android, its "Kit Kat" ;)

    • not getting any refurb nexus 7 anymore.
I got 2 lemons from it
      still waiting for replacement/ fixing
      too much hassle….

  • Yes we are a superstore we have an extended range on normal coles. The supermarket used to be a pick n pay. They have about 20 in stock all white.

  • Wish all the tablets had an HDMI port and were capable of 1920x1080 output to a larger display: would make great media players.

  • So Sydney does not have any of these particular types of Coles stores?

    • +1

      Correct

  • Better than Nexus 7?

  • No GPS? No Sale for me. Good price for the spec though

    • I was wondering about this myself, any idea what "Navigation support" means?

It's listed in the specs that mafmouf posted above as well as as what Scotty posted a link to.

  • Would this be good for YouTube and games like Angry Birds and the likes ?

  • +1

I think that it would do those things well, Danstar.
I just picked one up at Coles Burwood (Melb). Seems like a really zippy unit; my sons both have Nexus 7s (2012) and this seems comparable. Have played one of the included movies and it went OK; not laggy and colours are bright. One of the reasons I bought it is as an entertainment unit while travelling, so that seems pretty good.
I really like the MicroSD factor, I put a 64gb card in and it read it quickly. Will download some movies for my next trip.
Definitely needs a back cover though, it is a bit slippy/slidey compared to the 7. But so far, very happy.

    • can you please confirm it has BT mate?

    • Thank you. Kids wants an iPad, but I don't want to buy 2. Hoepfully this one suffices for the one who doesn't pick up the iPad first

  • I received an email from FlyBuys earlier. "Activate this deal to get a $20 Coles voucher when you spend over $80". Could certainly be combined with this.

    Might only be me?

    • I got that email, but have to spend $180 to get the $20 off

      • I think it's $80 ONLY??

        • +1

It'd be tailored to each recipients spending habits. Those that shop at Coles often tend to get crappier offers as they don't need to be enticed back to the chain whereas those that rarely shop there generally get the best offers.

I hardly ever shop there and I got a spend 80 get 20 voucher last week and another one today.

        • You are right. I shop there almost daily, thus crappy offers. Although I get some offers from Flybuys for my local stores which are sometimes quite good. (Also the store they record most their ads for are done at my local one, so its always packed with the freshest stuff and shelves always full. Which is great)

        • Everyone got the flybuys offer mail today for $20 off xx? no mail for me at all. Last email was triple points valid till today. Is the $20 off valid from tomorrow, will wait for an email then.

        • Agree with foobar. During the time I need to spend $5,000 worth of Wish gift cards at Woolies, Coles sent me an offer of $20 off per $100 for 5 weeks and 2,000 flybuys points for 5 weeks alternating. After that, the offer they gave me is $20 fir $140 off, which is hard to achieve now. Back to Woolies until I get a better offer.

        • Hi! I just spent $80 at Coles as requested on my email, activated last night and scared my card successful… But No $20 voucher on the receipt ! Anyone had the same issue??

Do we get the voucher immediately? or on the receipt few days later next purchase??

        • It should be printed on the bottom of your receipt. I activated the offer via the link in the email, scanned the card during $80 purchase and got the $20 voucher on the docket.

Do you have more than one flybuys card in the family, if so, did you scan the right one?

This is what is should look like.

  • so can you get in Sydney?

    • Nope - Qld, Vic and ACT only

  • seriously not Sydney - shame and they do not do shop online ??

  • -1

I saw 6 on display in Gungahlin ACT this evening.
Note that they are the 8 GB model with the 2 MP rear camera (ewww!)

  • If only iPads cost this mucho sales would boost insanely.

    • +1

Unfortunately iPads sell enough at the price they are for apple to dream about lowering the price down to something like this. Also in lowering the price to something most people on a tight budget can afford it would remove a lot of the "awe" of genuine apple products, and in turn would decrease sales from their target "trendy" group (the people who will pay initial price on apples releases just to own them).

Not taking a stab at apple or it's users (have an iphone and 2 ipads in our household).

  • Pinched the last one from Gungahlin ACT.

    • pinched? lucky you didn't get caught or should we report you to the police?

  • Got one price matched at Hardly Normal, the staff was reluctant, but still sell me one after checking stock with the Coles Superstore in Burwood.

  • I have the 16 Gig model and love it. I sometimes even prefer it to my Nexus 7 ( 2012 model ).
