Deal:
I know Herald Sun has had the $1 for 28 days subscription for a while now, but until 31st March 2014 you can also get a $40 gift card to spend on whatever you like at Rebel in store or online. The gift card is sent to you within 14 days of subscription, giving you plenty of time to cancel. If you dont cancel, it then reverts to $4.00 per week.
You can also get the Sunday paper delivered in the $1 subscription too, but that reverts to $4.50 after the promotional period, which I think is pretty good value anyway

You can select any of the 4 subscriptions, which start at $1 - this includes the digital only bundle. You will receive a $40 Rebel Sports gift card

Based on the terms and conditions on the subscribe page - the rebel gift card will be sent out within 14 days, so presumably you could not cancel your subscription before then if you intend to.

You only pay $1 now via credit card or PayPal. Your subscription will renew in approx. 3 weeks. Based on registering today, my renewal is March 23rd and I would be charged $16 based on the plan I selected.

According to their FAQ's (once registered), their cancellation policy is as follows:

How much notice do I need to give to cancel my subscription?
Your digital access will be cancelled within 5 business days, but home delivery may continue for up to a further 5 business days (those of you in WA should allow up to 10 business days for deliveries to cease).

Well well well. I cancelled my subscription before I got hit with extra charges… but an email today has proved me a little less sceptical… I won't be a believer until I have the gift card in my hand, but this is more than I expected so far.

Yesterday I got the "Your news+ Full Access & Sunday home delivery package has been cancelled." email.
Today "Your $40 Rebel gift card is on the way".
TBH I'd given up on it ever happening.

So we had:
14 days from subscription
no, sorry, make that 14 business days
oops, there is a backlog, make that by the end of the month (March)
we've sorted it out, expect it by April 7th
backlog resolved, call us if you don't have it April 14th
and now: resolved the delays, May 3rd.

This is the 5th delay and the longest of them all. Then May 3rd is a Saturday. Unless they hand-deliver we're not getting anything that day.

I believe it when I hold it in my hand. I doubt it will happen. Only question: ACCC now or on May 3rd? It has been false ans misleading advertising, even in the unlikely case they really deliver they have wronged us already.

  newspapers are hand-delivered on saturdays as is mail in some areas :)

No Giftcard either of course, plain lies on the telephone that it would arrive in a few days.
I raised a dispute with paypal.

I did not recieve an email like a friend did so I called the number in that email (1800 850 516) and after giving my details to the Marketing lady who answered the phone, she looked me up and said that my card was going out to me today.

I am in Brisbane and have not got the card nor have the other 2 people in my house who signed up. I followed up and got the usual response to wait until Monday. also was told that as there are multiple subscriptions only one card will be sent. um, we are 3 separate people, with 3 separate emails etc etc. Department of fair trading have been 'assisting' with this but are not fantastic in assistance offered. for those who received it did it come by normal post?

      they have told me that we will only get one card between us, via email. they also told fair trading that. I argued the point with both of them. I asked where in the terms and conditions it said one per household and asked how they picked which one of us would get it. I argued via email with news limited, they no longer are corresponding with me. I rang fair trading as they were already following up the cards and they can see my point but will ring them again after Monday if I don't get all 3 cards. She said thought that all they can do is call them, nothing else as they have no power???
      we all only got digital deal, each with our own email etc. I paid for all 3 with my paypal as it was only $1 each but would they even know that? and what does it matter who pays?

      Well it's good that you got the digital deal for starters, means they can't claim a contract never existed. Paying with the same account might be an issue, as they could argue that it was all you and your housemates are only saying it's them as well in order to help you 'screw' the system.
      
      Regardless though what Fair Trading is telling you is complete garbage - if you can prove that your housemates had legitimate accounts then News Corp is violating Australian Consumer Law by not giving you all the gift cards.

      Good question, you might be able to get away with a signed statement from them stating that they used your paypal account and immediately paid you in cash, News Corp can't disprove that.
      
      It does matter in regards to the T&C's if it's only one per person, so whether you get three or just the one.

Very happy. Managed to get 3x $40 cards all delivered. I gave up about a week ago and manually stopped Paypal auto payments for renewal. Then I opened cases to have my $3 refunded and settled for nothing. Last week I got all 3 cards in the mail via registered post!
