The newer version can be had for less than $2k.
It has the current Haswell i7 4770k CPU with the GTX 770M 3G.
Just add a 256GB SSD for ~$160 and
+8GB RAM for ~$100. (not needed for gaming)

Edit: Hmm, looks like 680M > 770M unlike their desktop counterparts.

Note that this model comes with the dual super RAID SSDs, a higher spec graphics card and double the RAM. Not really comparable ;) MegaBuy

    • True, but I'd go with the new design anyway, cpu's get worked pretty hard in many new games

  • Refurb?

Old CPU and GPU for over $2k… Still the 680m is a good card by todays standards.

This is a fully sealed brand new model - local stock. Price is as clearance :)

I'm sorry good sir, when did we start debating the differences between desktop and mobile gaming?

I happily game on a 765m at 1080, that you can get more out of a desktop is not really relevant

I'm sorry good sir, when did we start debating the differences between desktop and mobile gaming?

          You made this blanket statement:

"Still the 680M is a good by today's standards."

And you qualified nothing about it.

Today is 2 years after the GTX680M was released and today's standards for GPU performance have climbed dramatically.

You're wrong on both counts. That review explains why.

No, it's not good by gaming standards and we're going by gaming standards since it is a gaming laptop. Mainstream gamers player mainstream games, to run those games acceptably on this GPU they need to be played in a form quite a bit different from what was intended.

          I happily game on a 765m at 1080,

          Pure subjectivity.

That's all well and good, but don't just try and paint in broad strokes and then back away from your sweeping claim by saying, "Well I'm happy with what I get."

The GTX680M is a good GPU by your standards. End of discussion.

Mobile GPUs are Nothing but graphics cards for mobile systems. I love having a mobile system because I use my mobile system for at least 10 hours a day every single day. I happily use my 765m too on most games without any issues.

Saying that a mobile GPU is rubbish because it doesn't match a full sized card is like saying your PC is rubbish because it weights more than a notebook.

Saying that a mobile GPU is rubbish

No I'm saying it's rubbish because it is rubbish. That's an objective fact. It fails to run the demanding games of yesteryear at the most common resolution, at reasonable settings at an acceptable framerate.

This is a gaming laptop, so judge it by gaming standards not by your own highly selective, "I take my laptop to Uni and sneak in some Quake Arena in between lectures, and it does ok" standards.

That you can run World of Warcraft or Farmville on your 765M is hardly relevant when it comes to the complete spectrum of GPU choices, where a GTX680M/GTX765M is way down the bottom and packaged in totally overpriced system that makes the insane cost to measly performance ratio even more unattractive.

But that's besides the point; NVidia and AMD market their mobile GPUs with misleading model numbers that lead people like noone025 to make bold assumptions about their performance being more than adequate, when in fact this GTX680M is on par with a GTX660.

^ That was the point. You overreacted because you're defensive about your gaming hardware like most gamers get when faced with the news that they're wasting money.

doesn't match a full sized card is like saying your PC is rubbish because it weights more than a notebook.

They're competing for the same target demographic in the same markets, the way you're justifying choosing a gaming laptop like this is by saying that because it's portable and it has a decent battery life, you can overlook the fact that fails to live up to what it was designed to do, because it has that extra degree of freedom.

Unless I'm confused; you sit down when you game and keep the laptop plugged in, so any "portability" pretensions fly out the window when gaming is concerned on these laptops.

        • Gaming notebooks and Desktops are not the same market and are not targeting the same demographic.

"so any "portability" pretensions fly out the window when gaming is concerned on these laptops." is just a statement that shows that you don't understand the market you are trying to talk about.

I have adhoc lanned 2 nights in the last three weeks with a mate of mine after work. If I didn't have my notebook on me, I would have had to have taken a 45 minute journey home, picked up a desktop, tied a screen to my back, stuffed a keyboard down the back of my pants then public transported it 1 hour because my wife had the car.

I also game when I am out sometimes (last time I set up super meat boy at a kebab shop). On top of this, I work from my machine 8 hours a day too, so I don't have to switch between a notebook and a desktop under any circumstances which is like because it means I never have to adapt to different keyboards.

My gtx765m Runs all the games I throw at it for me. Granted the only things I really play are games like LoL, Dota 2, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Civ 5 so I really can't comment about the ultra end of gaming.

Just because it doesn't suit your personal circumstances, don't assume that it doesnt suit others.

          Does your foot hurt now?

        • I have no idea what that means.

  • Please don't RAID 2x 128GB SSDs …

    • I tried it once before ……. it really didn't go well :)

    • Please explain?

  • Quick few questions rep;

1.) Can we replace Win8 with Win7, or get a discount for getting rid of Win8.
2.) What Bluetooth version, a real noob question but I can't locate and my internet is too messed up to search atm.
3.) Can extended warranty be purchased, if so how much. 2yrs Warranty for such a precarious and fragile object costing over 2k is not enough.

      1. I'm going to go with No because laptops have pre-installed OS
      2. Bluetooth = if not compadible buy a $2 adapter from ebay that is tiny and fix this problem
      3. consumer guarantee, why pay money for a funny monkey warranty
    • Unfortunately not, machine comes as is. MegaBuy
