Samsung 64" Series 8 F8500 3D for $1,888 at Domayne

440

Look like great price for this PLASMA.
I know there are not many Plasma lovers these days but this is far better than low quality LCDs.

  • great tv. got this for about 2150 at JB last Sept/Oct

yes, love the Plasma (wish they are still around when my perfectly functioning 7 year old Plasma dies - but no sign of it!)

pros: Great for Movie watching, Great for fast action Sports.

cons: suck a little more power the LED/LCD

    • +7

yes it will cost you $20 more per year as compared to LED/LCD.

"If you can afford the $20 a year in extra power, Samsung’s top plasma TV is by far the best choice for watching high quality video." THIS IS FROM WEBSITE : http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/review/samsung/series_8_f850…

    • +4

Don't worry maybe when your plasma dies you get to experience something much better than plasma. OLED!!! Man they are the most beautiful screens i have ever seen
EDIT I meant they will be more affordable .. $8k is a bit too steep

      • +3

        Just a tad too steep.

      • I think they may have been completely absent from CES this year…Are Sony and Samsung giving up on OLED? I wonder.

Take a look at this: XBR-65X950B. Full array LED backlighting may = plasma…?

        • Pretty sure they aren't. Samsung was at CES pushing for those stupid curved screens, which is all oled

AFAIK sony stopped selling plasmas back in 2004? x950b is LCD, only samsung and LG are going to be pushing forward with plasma I believe.

        • Sony don't even make their own LCD's anymore - they're just rebadged.

I agree about the curved screens although someone said when you sit down in front it doesn't seem weird but is easier to see everything. Might be good to see in store.

        • No, those curved screens are definately not oled. Just plain old led.
yes x950b is LCD…all I meant was, full array backlighting might be the boost LCD needs to equal plasma. Edge lighting clearly doesnt work.

Great for movies, bad for gaming…the Samsung F8500 has ~65ms of input lag in game mode, which is pretty bad even for a plasma — the Panasonic VT60 plasma is 41ms (and the best LCDs like Sony's are just 20ms).

      • 65ms - that's a bit shite? Is this normal for plasmas?

      • I wouldn't even consider using a plasma for gaming, mostly because of the burn in. My sammy D8000 makes every movie feel like call of duty, simply because the hud is faintly burnt in around the edges.

        • +4

If ur a gamer- you use a plasma ;-) My samsung has no burn in whatsoever and the missus pretty much plays cod 24/7

        • +1

If ur a gamer- you use a plasma

          You mean CRT.

I keep all my gaming on a 100hz ips now.

Plasma is fine granted you even out the burning by watching regular tv, my tv was used exclusively for gaming and movies (mostly black bars on top and bottom). The edges never refreshed and now the phosphor in those areas are worn out. It probably took about a month of nothing but the same hud to permanently burn in.

        • So you have a Crysis HUD while watching the news? Awesome! Haha.

        • Nope, I meant plasma ;-)

      • The latest firmwares could have improved it a fair bit.

I used this TV to complete GTA V on PS3 and it was all okay!

My 7 year old Panasonic 50" plasma is also showing no signs of dying. My friends have since bought LCDs that have died, been replaced and died again. Just like my 18 year old 68cm Sony Trinatron, I don't think my plasma will ever die.

      • Likewise, I ended up having to give my Sony 80cm Vega away coz it was taking up valuable space! Scary thing is, it actually cost me more back in 2000 than what all of my big screen plasma and lcds put together have cost me since!

        • +1

I use the 68c Trinatron as a TV for my kids. Their friends drop in and ask "What type of TV is that ?"

  • +1

postage to SA makes it $2188 ($300 postage)

    • +3

I think you mean kickage. Pray it's not Couriers Please.

  • +4

    That's a great price
These have a fantastic picture and the smart hub is excellent.

  • +1

One of the best TV's on the market hands down. Big plus for this deal.

    • I have this tv. Totally agree with above!!!

      Buy it!

  • +1

Harvey's will price match, depending on available stock. It's under their cost but Domayne is a sister store, so they won't deny a price match usually.

Tempted but this would totally fill my TV recess leaving no arm room to get behind it etc.

lol at the 60" being more expensive: http://www.domayneonline.com.au/electronics/visual/plasma/sa…

Disappointed that it does not have inbuilt widi.

That said I wonder if this tv suffers from buzzing.

    • Mine does NOT buzz .

I had purchased the previous model about 2 years ago as it DID Buzz and Samsung would not accept it as a fault, so I went to Domayne and demanded my money back , and they gave it back to me YAY

I waited till late last year and Purchased this model and I love it, watched gravity 3D the other weekend loved it..

    • in fairness, mine does buzz slightly and only intermittently. It started since the last software update, so it may have something to do with the Auto-brightness settings. It can be forgiven, as the quality of the picture tho. At this price, it is a steal.

      • No buzz here.

    • Not convinced yet, I'd like to hear it (or not hear it) for myself. The 64" E series I've got from last year produces honey for me!!!

  • +4

Link has being removed, looks like it was an error.

Only TV showing up for $1888 is the Series 5.

    No longer available?

  • link removed.

  • I think both Domayne and Harvey Norman removed the product from their website. It was definitely available this morning. I called Melbourne city Domayne to confirm the stock as well.

    very disappointed now :(
i organised to pickup after work today :(

  • Nah, it just got ozbaragined! Plasma TVs also have hits sellouts, better than LEDs

  • I got the 60" late last year and it looks sensational. No buzz issues. Love it.

  • Just got back from checking these out at HN.

I have always been a plasma person, however I gotta say that the current LCD's (just slashed from around $2300 to $1900) look a lot better.

And I didn't expect to come to that conclusion.

So it looks like Ill be grabbing a Samsung UA55F7100AM instead (TGG actually have this model for $1695). Any comments on that or similar models?

    • cant get a top tier 64/5" plasma for less than 2500. And this will be cheaper than the 'equivalent' LED's. At the end of the day, people will argue over which is better, but it has to be up to your own eyes to judge. Take along some source media from the net of the different things you enjoy (theatrical movies, games, whatever) and plug into the USB port for an in store test, remembering the bright environment of the store will be misleading.

    • I would recommend checking the reviews online on this tv first before you get a LED/LCD.
The picture in store is no reflection of the quality. Department stores are no place to compare picture from one tv to another, way too much ambient light and I am sure the settings are cranked way up.

      • well I am probably taking the leap and changing from my current LG 50PK550 plasma to a Sammy UA55F7100AM for $1695 minus cash bargaining at TGG.

Hope I'm not disappointed! Getting $400 back for the LG and only paid $1220 3.5 years ago.

  • Placed an order earlier today. Got the routine credit card check email. Rang back and spoke with the fraud analyst from Domayne/Harvey Norman around lunch time. He mentioned the order was being reviewed, as it was a massive price error. He mentioned that it was supposed to be $3200. Not expecting them to honour this. Good luck to anyone with a local Domayne. Pick it up ASAP if they will still let you.

    • Did you end up getting it?

  • I paid $1495 for my 63" Samsung last year. I don't think an extra inch is worth 400 more but this is an 8 series I suppose.

    • 63" Samsung last year? That's funny, coz the Samsung I bought last year is 64". I'd take yours back, coz clearly you were ripped off!!!

      • It was a showroom display model. Bought it about a year ago, it was a 2012 model I think.

        • Ah yeah, the 7 Series…
          Sorry, was just stirring before!

  • +1

Listing is back up now but price is $3,247.00!!!

Hope someone was able to actually get one.

  • I picked up one of these for $1999 last year at Harvey Norman - price match with Bing Lee. It's a great TV. I live in a modernist 1960s apartment with a glass wall on one side and this tv is fantastic for that sort of environment even with bright light streaming it I get a great picture. 3D - which I rarely use is superb on this tv.

    • are you sure you picked series 8 64" ?
HN have advertised this for $3247 now.

      • Bing lee was never 1999 for the 64". only the 60" went down to $1999. If you got the 64" then you did very well indeed

        • Thinking it may have been the older E model range that was discontinued last year. PS64E8000 perhaps?
