  • I bought mine last week on a price match from officeworks for $500.

Would have loved this deal :(

  • this or Surface Pro?

    • I chose this because of battery life, obviously the surface pro is faster but the battery life is poop, plus the touch keyboard SUCKS.

      • -1

then use the type keyboard? Sounds like a case of buyer's remorse trying to justify their purchase to the world to try and convince themselves they made the optimal decision, however deep down they now they were wrong. Nice try son.

        • it sound like your doing the same lol, and no i dont own neither:p but i did try the surface pro with type cover in store and the touchpad sucks.

        • I don't have a surface pro either but I've used them and they seem like the top choice on the market right now

        • +1

I am not trying to justify my purchase at all :)

But my surface pro 2 with type cover2 is very comfortable and you can buy the soon to be released power covered which will increase the battery capacity upto 70%.

        • It's a lot more expensive though isn't it?

        • Yes it is eh. Different categories of price. T100 at beast price could be had for 400. Surface pro with type cover at absolute best 600, probably at 650-700.

    • Im just wondering why you would want this over a surface Pro?

      • +2

Battery life is better than the surface pro and it has a "proper" keyboard - but it's also significantly less powerful with a lower res screen.

Depends on what is important to you.

      • +3

Exactly, Surface Pro is better in every way, better build and is faster, only downside is the battery.

        • and that is the most important thing for some like my self, the battery..
a good comparison would be getting the 64gb version from jbhifi for 500, than buying the 200 dollar power cover, (in usa its 200, be sure it will cost more here though no word on Australian pricing yet) so your looking at 700 or more the surface pro 64gb with power cover.
for the t100, (maybe after a price match) $474 @OW your getting much much better battery life, better keyboard, functions like a real laptop/netbook with out a tacky kick stand like the surface pro. obviously the surface pro is much more powerful in terms of specs so ultimately it comes down to what you're gone use it for and your preferences

        • surface pro is also getting a power booster pack very soon, if you don't have access to a power point during the day and are a power user.

        • "Tacky kick stand"

          :o

        • Exactly, Surface Pro is better in every way, better build and is faster, only downside is the battery.

…so how is it "in every way better". think about it this way, most people use a laptop for web browsing, writing word docs, etc etc. Literally the first thing I do when I get to my comp is go on fb, reddit and ozb. Most of the time you spend in the web browser and not heavy intensive 64 bit exe applications. Graphic designers and 3D video rendering users stay away, but for the majority of users the T100 is reasonably powerful (without sacrificing the 3-5 hours of the Surface Pro)

        • +1

Lol same as me ozb, reddit ,fb ,sometimes wp lms and email.

        • On my T100 i was on ~50% after 8hrs just using adobe acrobat.

      • +1

For me, and this also applies to the Surface Pro 2, it was the weight. At close to 1kg it is simply unusable as a tablet-only device, which is something that is required for my needs. From Pro->Pro 2 they made it a better laptop (2-stage kickstand, better keyboard), I'm holding out in the hopes that from Pro 2->3 they'll address its issues as a tablet (ie. weight), and for now I'll be getting the T100.

  • Is this a good deal? In the market for a tablet…looking at an ipad air 16gb or an android 10"…never did consider a windows OS tablet…

    • +1

chalk and cheese… Windows is for productivity and the other two is more for consumption (i.e. games and web browsing .. basically think of them as a bigger smartphone)

The windows is good for doing your docs and and general stuff you used to do on your laptop … not a good market place in the windows environment but you get access to all windows products you traditionally got on your laptop etc.. :) on these specs playing games might be quite difficult, i have a netbook with similar specs and yeh its not very conducive to playing games.. hehe

Yes its a decent deal btw :) but def go and play around with all 3 .. before making a decision

  • In the market for one of these or the Surface Pro.

Negatives with the Surface are its a brick and average battery life no office or keyboard included.

  • +2

Damn, this is tempting. I understand the benefits of a Surface, but this has nice battery life and looks/folds up like a laptop. /me bangs head against wall.

    • +1

i think id go the surface pro way.. they have a new keyboard with battery coming out (or is out) that extends the battery life .. its expensive though i think looking at $200 ..

      • Yeah, that price is a killer, though, as you pointed out.

    • I know that feeling…I "um-ed" and "ah-ed" in 2009 when I bought a HP Netbook costing me $700 with an Atom processor…It ended up in the bin as it was "USELESS"…This is the reason why, no matter how tempting, I am gonna give this one a pass…I still have the scars from using an Atom processor in the early days…

      • I had a MSI u100 which did what it needed.

This thing blows that out of the water.

      • Can I join you at a lower price. Bought a Netbook for $300 in 2009. Where is it now? No clue.

      • I don't recall any $700 "netbook" back in 2009 uses ATOM. More like something like HP 2113 that uses VIA C7. Transformer Book T100 here would be using the latest Atom with quad-core & out-of-order execution — much faster than the old ones but obviously still won't be able to compete performance wise with the core i5 in Surface Pro.

      • I know that feeling to… Got Asus EEEPC with an Atom for around $600 in 2008. It tried to serve me well but failed. low res screen with low performance processor, but had incredeble battery life. finally I put 60GB SSD in it to boost the performance and gave it to my daughter just for browsing and watching movies.

By the way, price match -5% from Office Works for those keen…brings it to $475-ish…and delivered!

  • question: if this has a eMMC card - does that mean its upgradable/removable?

I was googling to see what the difference is between SSD and eMMC - but can't find a clear answer.

  • Is it possible to install a ssd into this laptop?

    • this already comes with 64gb soldered into the motherboard, you cant upgrade it, neither the RAM

    • -1

You can install a 128gb Micro SD card if needed.

  • This or the Lenovo thinkpad 8?

    • +1

I pruchased the Thinkpad 8, sent it back within 14 days… The charger can't be used when using the quickshot as a stand… as the charger is on the right hand side, they also put the hdmi port underneath the magnets that hold the case on… Some flaws which I couldn't live with.

Then got this and love it.

      • How is the resolution? It seems kind of low for a 10 inch tablet.

        • You'd think 1080p would be great on the thinkpad… but you have to DPI scale it back to the same resolution you get on this in order to use it with anything but a mouse. And since it doesn't come with any type of keyboard dock you need to use a bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Which is great and all but if you also want to use the stand AND charge at teh same time, your screwed.

          Just too many flaws.

  • Alternatively will the Surafce Pro be able to edit full HD video via Cyberlink?

  • +3

I was having a hard time deciding between this and the Surface Pro myself. I went ahead and bought the Surface Pro at JB Hifi and to be completely honest I was blown out of the water with the Surface Pro's performance and the screen. THAT SCREEN.

I'm a Uni student and the Stylus was the selling point for me. Being able to jot down notes in OneNote is pretty damn easy. The battery life can be a bit painful at times but I can usually get 6-7 hours with different battery settings before I have to recharge it. It usually dies on the way back from Uni. Definitely going to pick up a Power Cover when they get released :)

My friend has the T100 and I played around with it for a day and it felt pretty top notch in terms of speed and build quality though I found the Surface Pro to tick more boxes than the T100 in what I needed :)

    • How is the experience of note-taking using the stylus/onenote? It is seamless or fluid enough to replace good ol' pen and paper in lectures?

  • +2

$444 today delivered if you use the code SAVE11

  • dammit i got it for 519 just the other day

  • What a dud this was, Dick Smiths sent me the wrong laptop!

    • Better or worse?

      • The warehouse guy guy 1 digit wrong, I got a 500 dollar HP AMD 1ghz, 4GB Ram, 500GB 15inch.
Took about 20mins to swap since they didn't even send me a invoice in the package and its needed for a swap, luckily found it in a email. Young female there (Manager?) was pissed the filipino call center sent me to the store.
