  • $229 after cashback at MSY

    • $239. Also, Umart has it for $231.

It's a decent price, but not a bargain. Certainly not if you have to pay shipping.

      • $229 with the $49 cashback the MSY website just lists $39, Acer actually have $49 cashback.

        • +1

Yeah, but that's the only typo.

          The list price is $288. $288 - $49 = $239.

  • Isn't ACER one of the companies that others here have had cash back issues with?? So makes one nervous if you'll get it for that price.

    • +1

They gave me my 4 cashback with no problem at all, just have to wait a while.

    • +1

hey ozpete - i was also skeptical about the acer cashback. But i got it.
Just make sure you follow all the instructions (go onlline, fill out the form, print it out, and send in the origional barcode on the acer box), and it won't appear in your account for a while. From memory they said 6-8 weeks or something ridiculous like that. But it did come!

      • +1

        All cashbacks are dodgy..
I say don't rely on them.. Got burned on a Fujitsu Split System cashback last year.. They said I didn't send in the application on time.. I know for a fact what day it was sent.. I diarised it.. I also know that I followed instructions to the letter.. I know they try to scam you any which way they can.. Didn't factor on the old, "never got it" excuse though..

        • i dont know why anyone would neg vote you, but i evened that out. anyway.
yeah you're right, you just have to be persistent. Some people say sending registered mail guarantees it goes through. I also took photocopies the barcode/serial before sending in the original, just in case his happened.

I also got my $5 cashback from Microsoft, so it does work :)

I had no problem getting the cashback for the P244W a few months back.

  • +4

I also bought a P244W, the cash back took several months but it did come.

I did send in the cashback form late and they still allowed me to claim the money back.

    +1 to this.

It's a computer monitor, not a TV. VGA allows a higher resolution than component connections, and you don't need HDMI if the monitor has no speakers. DVI is just as good.

      • Since others were negging your latter comment..

        DVI = HDMI - Audio.

        Video quality is THE SAME.

  • Can sum1 pl tell me how much is shipping to sydney from umart and onlinecomputer.com.au

    • Either way, you'd be better off going to MSY.

  • Only $12 delivery to where I live… makes this the cheapest option for me.
Already have 1 of these babies I got it from 9289.com.au with free delivery for 299-49 = $250 and Im so impressed with it that I would happily get another 1.

  • No hdmi

    • it's a computer monitor…there are no speakers, hence no need for hdmi…DVI is good for high-resolution video only…

      • Not sure why you're being neg'd.

        DVI = HDMI - Audio.

        Video quality is THE SAME.

        • yeah, but every new computer comes with HDMI, there is no point going back to old technology.

          • @Davo1111: DVI is not an older technology than HDMI…they came out at the same time, and serve different purposes. HDMI is for Video + Audio, whilst DVI is for Video only. They both have the same video quality. And are you sure EVERY new computer comes with HDMI?

            • @soupiejr: Further HDMI->DVI converters are cheap & easy to come by. To downvote based on that is just…

  • Whats the difference/s between this and the P244W?

    • the P244W has 2 HDMI inputs, and a VGA input.

  • Dunno who's been chucking all the positives on this when it's pretty much the same price at the usual places… this is hardly a bargain.

  • Amazing the amount of negative comments on this post.

I have the X233H at work, this model I saw online, did some price comparisons and picked up locally (Sydney).Nothing came close to the price or had the stock including "MSY" or the "usual places".

Bought Acer before and never had a problem, this unit is $899 rrp and has a 3 year warranty plus cashback has always worked. It has 1080p and with my bluray player and my DTV card the picture is fantastic.

    To me its a bargain.

    • You don't care that you can get it cheaper elsewhere?

  • I got one of the Acers, (the one with the 2 HDMI ports) no problems with the cash back. only thing i can complain about it is the time it takes to switch resolutions and wake up from sleeping. pretty amazing prices these 24s are going for now.

  • tantryl perhaps you misunderstood my previous post so let me re-iterate.

It was and still is the cheapest stocked item in Sydney for pickup (at this posting time). $235 after cashback.

No extra costs like postage, courier, travel etc.

    • Fair enough.

In that case, I don't consider a 1.7% saving of $4 a bargain (the difference between this and MSY).

      • +1

for some people probably this price is not really a bargain since they can come and pick it up the item to the shop. first not all people live next to MSY :) and some people doesn't have time to pick up the item from the shop, they want to get some product delivered. and MSY dont do delivery. but at least the price still cheaper :)

        • +1

I agree, it's a great price. Keep it up.

But with umart being cheaper and able to do shipping, 9289 doing free shipping with a price of $319 ($270 after cashback), and MSY being pretty common nation-wide and $4 more… it's just not what I'd consider a bargain.

Great price, yes. Bargain that you couldn't get anything like anywhere else, no.

  • i bought couple of Acer monitor, Acer netbook for my personal use but i dont have any single problem with the cash back. if you guys have an issue with the cash back process, just call them direct and they will solve the problem for you.

  • I bought this monitor last week in Perth from www.foxcomp.com.au when it was on sale for $285 less $49 (Now $319). I tried MSY (who were $288 at the time), but as usual out of stock and still waiting to hear back.

It's a good price for a 23.6" screen, but I am disappointed with this monitor so far.

It replaced a Samsung 205BW which is a few years old. The text on the Samsung is still much sharper and blacker, this monitor is not as clear and the blacks are not as black.

I also have a problem with resolutions above 1440 x 900, they are all shown with black bars to the sides, top and bottom giving me a 20"screen.

Currently working with Acer support on these issues. They were responsive at first, but it has now been a couple of days without any further follow up.

I have never seen a another working X243HQ to compare if the blacks and sharpness are just as bad.

It's possible I have a dud unit, but thought it was worth mentioning.

    Peter.

PS there is no height adjustment or L/R swivel on this screen.

    • Thought I would update this comment.

First the Good: Original monitor was swapped with a new one by foxcomp no hassles, great service! Resolution problem resolved. Black is still not as black as my older Samsung 205BW, but good enough for the price.

Now the Bad: Still have not received my $49 cashback cheque. Terms and Conditions say allow up to 8 weeks, but it is now 14 weeks since I posted the claim!!

After chasing them I have now been told it will be processed in the next batch in a couple of weeks.

Has everyone else got their cashbacks? Do they just wait hoping that people forget about it, and only process them once someone chases?

  • This is bad, P224W much better.

    • Is the P224W still a current model, it came out a year ago?

Also it's not listed as a current product on the Acer US or Au websites and there are no prices for it on staticice.
