    Grey impawt?

  • Do you think I should wait for the Note 4 or just jump on this?

    • +1

Get this or maybe the s5
there always going to be another phone comeing out soon. this is a decent price ive still got my note 2 4g and am very happy.

      • +1

S5's RRP is nearly a grand!

        • +1

and you don't think the non exsistant Note 4 will be around that price also?

        • +1

Was the note 1k when it first came out? o.o

        • +1

I paid $860 the day it came out

I stopped trusting rumors after S5 reveal. That thing was meant to have 64 bit Exynos, a separate metal casing SKU, finger print scanner on the screen itself, and a bunch of other things that never came to fruition.

And that was 'leaked' close to reveal. The rumors this early out on Note 4 can't be taken seriously.

        • Never trust (or read) IB times. They make up such crap to get page views.

    • +2

Are you asking if I can read the future, so you can compare this with a phone that hasn't come out yet?

    • +2

If you can wait for Q4, sure. But the prices won't be these prices until Q1 2015.

      • Yeah true, think I might jump. I've been using iPhone's since the 4 came out, is there much of a learning curve?

        • +9

There will be an adjustment period where you will try to do things the iOS way and it won't work because it's different. But the same is true if you're going the other direction.

Personally, I would miss being able to change the keyboard, having widgets, being able to use my phone as a mass storage device (like a USB stick), dragging and dropping my media and not requiring itunes, and having extra buttons.

Once you get used to it, it will become second nature. Widgets are awesome (they allow you to do things much quicker, like turning on/off wifi or data with a single touch instead of going through settings menus). And whenever I get into text conversations with my iphone friends, their messages always take longer getting to me than mine to them, because I type much faster than they can (the iOS keyboard is very shitty and can't be changed), so they are replying to some old texts send 2 or 3 messages ago while I have already moved on, and they wonder how I type so fast.

I think you will find it very liberating. Your phone's potential is unlocked and you'll be able to do things out of the box you could only do with a jail break.

If you're having doubts, go to a Telstra or Optus shop and play around with the phones. See if you can get used to them.

        • galaxies have a dumbed down mode for those who are used to the iOS single homescreen interface

but if you want the full experience. the normal mode is not that hard to use

think of it as like having an extra "layer" over your normal home screen apps, were you add shortcuts and widgets (like clocks) that you frequently use.

and the swiped down menus are alot better than iOS, as you dont just get notifications and toggle settings, you can hold down on them and change the settings of the settings lol

        • I could never go back to a shortcut-only screen. It just feels so inelegant now.

The phone doesn't treat you like a noob, they way Apple does. I never figured out how to send zip files through email. I only know how to send documents and photos. Apple 'protects' me too hard from infecting other people with malware. The only things you can transfer to the phone via USB are supported media (and some are not), and it must be through itunes, unless you jailbreak or use specialized apps. The keyboard is the most basic keyboard ever, and you can't longpress the keys for dual functions, you must go to a separate screen for numbers. Even caps lock is harder than it needs to be.

I just feel that Apple knew that too many of the people who would buy the phone were idiots and they had to design it with those people in mind.

What do you guys think about the risk with Samsung region lock?

    • +4

I'd be more concerned about the risk of dealing with DWI. If you do so, be sure to pay with paypal or credit card, NEVER bank transfer, and if you need to return something to them, be sure to use a shipping method with tracking AND a signature.

There are plenty of reviews here and around the web about DWI's shonky practices when it comes to phones, and they're all well-deserved.

    $60 cheaper than kogan… wow

    • +1

yeah much cheaper than kogan and standard shipping is free as well as opposed to kogan..but kogan has 24 months/12 months interest free plan.

      • Based on what Geewhizz said above, in future I'd probably be happy to pay the extra $60 for Kogan. A friend had warranty issues with his Note 2 from Kogan and it was replaced efficiently.

  • Any idea how many days will it take to ship it to perth? I cant find any exact number of days on the website

    • The one and only time I've bought from them, they took about 2 weeks to get to Melbourne. Basically, similar to what you'd expect from HK post when buying on ebay.

Keep in mind also the surcharge.

    • I've only ever purchased camera's and lenses from them. They were always shipped using FedEx, and arrived in 3-4 days..

Not sure about their phone division though.

      • What method shipping for phones?

  • +2

The OP must be so happy and the Buyer must be so sad! haha!
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/138282

  • I just picked one up ! YAY

  • Thanks OP :) This will be my first plunge into the Note world from the S series. Can't believe it's only 35g heavier than my S3! Added priority shipping as I'm taking a holiday soon, fingers crossed.

  • So it comes with a 1 year Australian warranty but its grey import? How does that work?

    • -1

An Australian repairer handles warranty repairs for Kogan, not Samsung.

  • +1

Hello! what does it mean it is not Australian stock?

    • +3

means samsung australia doesnt know you from their point of view as a customer…
and the importer would handle your warranty issues should they occur…

i was lucky i got mine from HN (launch date with their 20% trade in off 719 at the time)
the mic on my phone was stuffed - all calls i made had echo…
      was swapped over…
if i had to handle this via the importer… would cost money sending in… waiting… then on offchance they reject/no fault found… i'd be stuffed.

  • will get one

I own this. Best phone. Super sexy. Square as opposed to the less and less round S3, S4, S5. More RAM, about the same speed as S5. Plus the pen. And bigger screen. This is like the .. best .. phone .. out thereeee.

    • best phone indeed :P

    • I dislike the curviness of other Sammy models as well, the S3-S5 look horrid to me. Square with nice round corners it is :)

  • Black or White? I think I'm liking the black better.

  • Thanks. Just pulled the trigger on a black one + black flip cover!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS WEBSITE!

i purchased the same phone from DWI early March and it was not a genuine piece of Samsung Note 3 i believe (it shows "made by Samsung" which doesn's make any sense as it should be "made in China" mostly) and this piece cannot even recognize my Optus sim card!

their 14 days return policy is bu*****t as their phone always go directly to the voice mail, they will never reply your email.

luckily i paid through Paypal so 10 days after i disputed this transaction, Paypal fully refunded me after i sent this piece back to their warehouse in Sydney - apparently "DWI" is on the "hot list" of Paypal…

i think DWI sellers are based in Hongkong, they were trying to threaten me after i disputed to Paypal which was shocking, but never-mind i just told them go to deal with Paypal …

    • I believe some are simply marked Made by Samsung. I don't think that itself is cause for concern. These things are also obviously import models and Samsung do have some stupid regional locking on the things, however there is an app on XDA for removing that. I'm assuming since the say it's unlocked, they are probably just running it on the device first before sending.

This doesn't take anything away from your valid issues raised with respect to customer service and as is always the case with dealing with offshore entities it's very much buyer beware. Almost without exception if dealing with any entities in China or Hong Kong, service isn't usually very forthcoming post sale.

Anyone who still feels like going with the above in mind is probably better served coughing up the $18 for express delivery and paying via paypal to give yourself as much time as possible to use the phone in case of any faults/defects.

      • +2

For the same grey import bought from Kogan, has much more text printed (made in Korea by Samsung, quality check seal etc etc. than from DWI, which merely said made by samsung and no quality check seals etc. this makes me question the genuinity if the handset.

well…i am only sharing my personal experience with this purchasing…i was very surprised as i bought camera and lens from DWI before which were really good, only this mobile was a "flop" :)

        good luck everyone!

  • +1

Thanks for sharing that, it's very useful info. When (if? :)) mine arrives I'll update my comment with the condition of the phone so everyone knows as well.

    • Sorry this was supposed to be in reply to yato above in-case it wasn't obvious :)
