Air Asia $99 to Kuala Lumpur

630

Melbourne / Perth / Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur $99 one way. Even cheaper for the return flight. Price include taxes but not baggage, food, seat selection, etc.

It is not advertised on their website yet but the fares are loaded on their booking engine and appears to be valid from October 2009 to April 2010 but there doesn't seem to be availability in Dec & Jan.

  • Great find!

  • that is a sweet find - well done!

  • This is an awesome find. THANKS!!!

  • Mad find. They started advertising on Radio as well now.

  • yeah….i think what they mean by something big adv. on their website is that all fares are already inclusive with fare and tax not like they used to be only the fare and you have to add the tax at the end.

  • it doesn't seem to be EVERY day in the booking period, there's still lots of ~$350 fares

  • Thanks. Just booked a flight during september school holidays.

  • Good find. I managed to get return airfares in April for $99 each way.

  • Brilliant.

Just booked a holiday Melb -> KL -> Phuket for $300.

    Many Thanks!

Edit: this was for two people btw

  • Not in adioso.com yet

  • According to AirAsia on Twitter the actual announcment is at 3.00pm Australian time. I booked 2 fares from Melb - KL in novemeber for about $350 (with 15kg luggage each both ways).

  • hmm.. they claim full availability for these prices in dec/jan here: http://www.airasia.com/site/my/en/page.jsp?reference=rrak035

but i can't find anything under $300 each way??

    • Try using http://www.airasiaplus.com/index.php. I haven't looked for Dec/Jan but have used this site and find it great to be able to see what is available.

      • +1

yeah i used that before but couldnt see anything. i can understand why AA might not want to make the prices available over dec/jan, but they shouldnt lie about it..

  • Air Asia are great. A real budget airline! Also booked Perth-Bali for $65 including meals and 15kg baggage. Just waiting for Mel-Bali. I reckon that's just a matter of time.

Then it's RIP Jetstar/Quantas. I can't believe people think Jetstar is 'budget' Less than $100. Now that's budget!

    • A lot of their normal fares are comparable to Jetstar though. We are in a great period for airtravellers, and we shouldn't expect to see so many sales in the future imo.

    • AirAsia is great if you don't encounter any problems but… once you do, google AirAsia sucks and there are say… 23x more hits than Jetstar. I won't air my greviences here but I had one very horrible experience with them and will only travel with them if the fare is ridiculously cheap in order to overlook the potential problems! Ps- this airfare definately qualifies for it

  • I think most of the $99 fares have gone (SE Asia students going home and Aussie families and students going on holiday.) It's always like that in December and January

When I booked Early Nov was still available. Feb+ is usually OK.

  • Is their system fizzing out or something? I keep getting..

    Communication Error
A communication error has occurred. Data lines may be congested now or another issue may exist.
If you have made payment, your transaction might have been successful so please verify the status of your booking here.
    We apologize for the inconvenience.

Zzz. Then sometimes I get random $0.00 fares, which can't be right because they show up in the calculation as a few hundred bucks…not to mention this error on AirAsia 'Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in /home/airasia/public_html/search.php on line 163' isn't all that reassuring. sigh.

I've searched the entirety of Jan, no $99 departing flights. There're some in Feb, but I haven't been able to find $99 returning, $288 was the lowest. :(

    thank you. Always loved KL.

  • These kind of deals make it worth flying from Sydney to Melbourne or Gold Coast to go overseas! If only i could get the complete set of Sydney - Melb/GC - KL - London return all discounted at a date which suited…

  • Air Asia have so many flights literally all over Asia. Jetstar in comparison have very few. Of course Air Asia have had more complaints.

I would never pay the standard rates, so they are of no concern to me.

When Air Asia fly to London for such low fares I think these fares are not just because of the Economic crisis. These are real budget airtickets. You can fly for these prices on comparable journeys in many parts of the world.

When people used to say that Jetstar was cheap I used to laugh.

  • What happens if passenger misses a connecting flight due to
    1. delay in Air Asia flight, or
    2. delay in security/customs checks?

    • +1

It's tough titties, especially for #2. Its the reason why Airasia only do direct flights and not connecting flights.

  • Sydney - Gold Coast http://adioso.com/search/syd-to-ool.html $45
Gold Coast - Kuala Lumpur $99
    Kuala Lumpur - Phuket http://adioso.com/search/kul-to-hkt.html $28
    Phuket - Kuala Lumpur http://adioso.com/search/hkt-to-kul.html $45
Kuala Lumpur - Gold Coast $99
    Gold Coast - Sydney http://adioso.com/search/ool-to-syd.html $49

    That’s Sydney - Phuket return for $365

  • Very cheap for melbourne to KL return for less than $250 with taxes, baggage and meals.
I will never do connecting flights with budget airline. I always stop over for one night to be safe.

  • +2

Connecting flights are usually OK. I was delayed 7 hours in KL last time, but that was for a flight home. Air Asia even gave me a $80 voucher for future trips with them as compensation. You have to ask for it I think and you need to be a bit persistant, but they will give you it if you do.

KL is an interesting place. It's about AUD1 to the centre by bus, food is great (Indian, Chinese, Malay) and cheap and there's lots to see and do. You can connect a day or more later and reduce the chance of being stranded. There are loads of hotels in the Brickfields area near where the airport buses terminate. Around AUD35 per night. Not exactly the Ritz, but OK for one night.

There's even a budget hotel near the terminal that has a business model similar to Air Asia i.e.very cheap if you book well in advance.

See how some sad souls can flame me for this post……..

  • tmill117. That's very ambitious! 3 flights. Oh well, if things don't work out it's still not going to cost you more than it would on a non-budget flight. And you'll probably be OK. Good luck!

  • Awesome Deal! thanks!

  • gah, the AA website is getting hammered. price went up on one date I was looking at by 100% (from $99 to $200). i'm still keen but keep getting lost during various stages.

  • so awesome… gonna have to book one of these

  • Just a few notes on all air asia flight. i just confirm with KLIA airport regarding Australia as high infected H1N1 country. It appears that all passenger have to go to quarantine for 7 days (regardless). So if you have made a booking you better check if you can actually go to holiday and not hospital.

    This is just friendly reminder.

I am sure situation will change from time to time. However, please exercise caution before hand.

  • The $80 delayed flight payment is a scam as you have to book the flight over the phone and therefore can't use the cheaper internet prices. You actually end up paying even more!

You can buy lots of on board meals, etc with the $80, though ;)
