    Why is this a bargain?

Not that I would ever pay that for a set, but a quick google tells me that Scorptec does seem to be legitimately $300 cheaper than anyone else for the same thing! ;)

Scorptec does seem to be legitimately $300 cheaper

Then put the saving in the description

  • Very tempted. Just installed the Audioengine a5+ at $299. Can't find any quality review.

At this price I believe it is a bargain as this unit includes a Wolfson WM8761 24bit/192kHz Sigma-Delta DAC and Blutooth V4 for streaming.

  • Expired.

    • Only white one sold out, black and red still available.

  • Connected to my TV today via optical channel, laptop via usb, and wireless ear phone via RCA out. It is just brilliant. I am going to replace my entire Sony 5.1 + amp with this unit. Much more convenient. I have not have the time to test the audio quality out in full as it is getting late and I don't want to wake my neighbour up.

    • Right speaker isn't working on my one :(

      • Have you checked the cable? Do you have a multimeter to check continuity?

  • Yeah I tried another speaker cable with the same result, with and without banana plugs. Don't have a multimeter unfortunately : /

  • If you are near any scorptec outlet it is simpler to replace the set.

    • Yeah I think have to but I live in NSW. Do you know if the pay for return shipping?

      • Why don't you call them up. They should understand the frustration and time wasted from this dead on arrival item. They should cover for the shipping costs both way.

        • They said they will cover shipping (on condition that they are really faulty).

Can't wait to get them back. So much better then my Audioengine A5s!

        • I glad they covered the shipping costs. I bought the a5+ last Saturday. It sounds signature is better while sitting on an angulate stands. The bass is more solid and less boomy. Still many hours before burnt in. I have yet find time to test the Aktimate out loud.

Finally has an hour with this speaker. There is no surprise that it sounds bigger and better than the A5+. I don't have the mini+ or the maxi so I can't comment on them. The Treble is perfect and making my A5+ seems recess. The mid tone is very nice and much more forward than the A5+. The bass is more solid and does not muddle up. I could hear more details and better separation of instruments and was surprise on a few occasions with musical notes in the track that I have not heard before.

Since I have paid $299 for the A5+, I felt the Aktimate Blue worth double that. At $699 it is reasonable. I don't believe it worth the current $999. I am looking for a white stand to go with this setup so that the tweeter can be at my ear level. The A5+ is great and one of the better speakers for 2.0 pc setup. It was a bargain for $299 and I have no regret and will not be selling it. I have it on my pc desktop. However, the Aktimate is bigger and better in every way. I have this for my TV with a laptop full of flac file hooking up to the usb input. I was surprise the forward, pause/play, and backward buttons in the remote works with foobar running on my laptop. I have tried the android foobar controller but it is rather unreliable.

    • Nice work. Not many reviews available at the moment. Should be helpful to people deciding

  • Just found out the usb DAC on this speaker set does not play 24bit 96khz file via foobar in WASAPI but ok via Direct Sound. MusicBee played the 24bit 96khz file via WASAPI with no issue..scratching my head.

  • Just checked the pricing for the Aktimate Blues at Scorptec - back to the old price of $999?

I'd be amazed that the price would drop that much so soon after release.

Anyway, very happy with mine, even at $900 odd (local AV store gave me a discount). They're very musical speakers with real punch at the lower end and nicely balanced through the range. They don't have an amazingly wide soundstage nor is the amp the quietest out there but when you're getting integrated amp + speaker + cutting edge bluetooth technology, you can't expect everything now, can you? :)

I'd consider myself an audiophile with a preference for tube amps and big floorstanders but really can't complain with these units in my small apartment.

If I could have bought them for $699, I would have said bargain of the century. How many here got them for that price? Lucky devils!

    • It was at $699 price for a day and went back to $999 the next day except the red version. I phone Scorptec and they were kind enough to give me the white version for the discount price. The following day all version was again discounted at $699. It went up to $999 for all version following that. I felt you can give them a call and try your luck.

I have been a headphone guys and have over a dozen $200-$400 headphones with a few DAC and Amps. I now fully understand what other was saying. The sound signature is different for speakers and headphone. With headphone the sound is left and right and for the speakers it is front left and front right and it is interesting to hear sounds bouncing from one channel to another which is not possible with headphone.

I thought the sound stage was pretty good and is better than the Audioengine A5+, as I have my speakers a bit over 2m apart. The stereo separation is also great.
