I got this drive last time and it did not come with an Australia power adaptor, so beware.

    • Is that $2 fix or does it need a power step up?

      • +1

Yes, you'll need a US 2 prong to Aus adaptor that you should be able to get for a buck or two. Or you may be able to just twist the US prongs to fit the Aussie outlet.

The power adaptor is 110V~240V so no need for a stepdown transformer.

However, I contacted Seagate Support via Twitter and their website and they said they are shipping me an Aus adaptor free of charge.

In the mean time, I'm using an adaptor from another Seagate drive which have the same 12V/1.5A/polarity and it's been working fine.

    • was just about to ask that. cheers. i really want a 4th after picking up 3 for $136 at bigw the other day but might wait for a good local deal in that case

      • That might not be a bad idea. I got 2 each from the TGG and BigW sales recently. One started to fail so I swapped it for a new one. Could be a lemon, but was glad I waited and bought locally. Seems the quality of drives these days is questionable.

It doesn't have the changeable power pack ends? I got one of these the other day and its power pack comes with about 5 different swappable plugs. Got it cheap too, Officeworks stuffed up the price-match with BigW and sold it to me for $116.

You can get a decent 12v 1.5a adapter at Jaycar for $22 http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MP3486 and this drive will actually set you back about $141, so all up you're looking at ~$163, plus postage and questionable warranty status. (me, I'd wait for another local sale)

      • It doesn't have the changeable power pack ends?

seems there is an "international" version that we get here with the interchangeable wallwart and the US version amazon sell that is hard wired us only. all mine have been locals (2 and 4tb) and have all had the interchangeable ends.

        • Yeah, the Quick Start Guide included with the drive showed a picture with interchangeable plugs, but the actual adaptor that came with the drive is a fixed US adaptor. It's still 110V~240V so no need for a transformer, which makes it a little easier.

        • Seagate sent me a multi-adaptor which arrived this morning.

  • How to use mastercard's rates instead of amazon rates?

    I'm getting $161 with amazon's rates

    • Change your credit card currency to USD.

  • this is not USB powered, is it?
do 4TB USB powered 2.5 HD even exist?

if people are talking about AU power adapters, what do you think?

do 4TB USB powered 2.5 HD even exist?

        http://bit.ly/1jP1ggj

but be aware, that is actually 2tb drives double stacked (my link, not this deal, this deal is definitely a single 4tb drive)

        • The price is expensive for the Seagate 4TB portable. Have seen it for the low $300's at Dick Smith but regularly closer to $400.

    Price just went up $20.

I hate how Amazon prices fluctuate so quickly, at least for non-book items. Some items I have monitored out of curiosity, change price every hour (board games tend to for instance). Ridiculous.

      • Fluctuating prices are what gives people bargains.

Would you just prefer to pay one high price all the time?

        • -1

You can have bargains without prices fluctuating by =/-2% every hour. Eg A store that sells everything 25% off RRP. The moment they get an item in, they sell it at that reduced price.

        • Then that is not a bargain.

Bargains exist because they exploit the impatient. The impatient will pay more to get it now, the patient will pay less, thus, the store ends up making the same amount of money and can offer people bargains.

          Not that hard to understand.

  • Purchased at $154.46 aud including delivery, used 28 degrees card.
Plan to open this up to use in my HTPC.

  • Bought one of these today from JB $199, Came with changeable prongs for the power cord

The local ones do. Apparently the ones shipped from Amazon do not. Capisce?

  • missed it :-(
