  • what is so special about these batteries?

    • +17

      They're white.

      • +8

Can you please explain it to him in a less technical manner?

      energysaver = ironic :)

      Low self-discharge cells

The low self-discharge nickel–metal hydride battery(LSD NiMH) was introduced in 2005. It has a significantly lower rate of self-discharge, so holds its charge longer if left charged but unused. By using an improved electrode separator and improved positive electrode, manufacturers claim the cells retain 70% to 85% of their capacity after one year when stored at 20 °C (68 °F), compared to about half for normal NiMH batteries. They are otherwise similar to other NiMH batteries, and can be charged in the same chargers. These cells are marketed as "hybrid", "ready-to-use" or "pre-charged" rechargeables. Retention of charge depends a lot on the battery's impedance or internal resistance (the lower the better), and on the physical size of the battery as well as the charge capacity.

LSD NiMH batteries were introduced in November 2005 by Sanyo,[27] marketing them under the brand "eneloop".

I was about to buy 2 packs, but might as well save the extra 6 bux and wait for a better special :)

Thanx OP have been waiting for a AAA deal, got 3 packs. Now let's hope this time Startrack courier will deliver to my house!

    • +1

      Exactly the same for me.

  • +3

Got a few AAs already, but the Mrs bought a heap of AAA alkalines a couple of months ago. As much as they're a p.i.t.a. I think I might use them up first!

Edit: As an idea, if you're not fussed about delivery and/or want to pick up… Masters have them for $19.99 and the PET15 code is still active right now (2:00pm Tues), making them $16.99!!!

    • +7

bla bla bla apples bla bla bla oranges bla bla bla pears… :)

      • -4

They are just rechargeable batteries. Why pay more than double. I want a reasonable answer. Being precharged saves you a few hours once…..

        • +2

We can't dumb it down to your level because we're afraid of heights. Google-Fu to your heart's content.

    • +2

Usually when you go to use a battery powered device you want it to work now, not in 8 hours time after you've recharged the batteries, that's why!
LSD batteries effectively provide all the benefits of an alkaline with the bonus of being rechargeable.

      • -2

        See above.

        • +2

No, being Low Self Discharge mean that when you put them in a torch for use in a blackout, they will still have charge in them when the blackout occurs in 6 months time.. if you were cheap and only bought standard rechargeables, the batteries would have self discharged in that time and the torch would be useless until the power came back on and you could recharge your cheap batteries.

Same goes for a Camera that sits on the shelf for months, then you grab it on your way out the door.. only to find that your cheap rechargeables have lost their charge when you go to use the camera.

Insert your device of choice into the above scenarios…
It's worth paying what amounts to a small amount extra (over the lifetime of the product) to have batteries that hold their charge.

Will hold off for the inevitable 8 for $20 deal…

  • Any idea how these compare to the Hobby King LSD AAA batteries?
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__39272__Turnigy_AA…

    • The brand on the battery, no idea why people on here spend so much on eneloops while the ones at hobby king are just the same but half the price.

      • +1

Have you got any better-than-eneloop deals to share?

        • +1

The Turnigy AAA LSD 900mah batteries from HobbyKing are ~$1 each. So 8 + shipping is $18.59

        • thanks roughana but if i'm not wrong they are in "backorder" plus i had 2x20 DS gift cards to spend somehow cause my previous DS eneloop deal was never delivered to my place :)

        • As per my comment below… 14 mins earlier!!! ;)

        • The international warehouse has them in stock. The shipping quote was from there.

        • How do i order from the International warehouse. I want to order 10 batteries and from the international warehouse the shipping will be cheaper, but it defaults to the Australian warehouse with $9.29 shipping charges.

    • I looked at these last week when the AA deal came out, but there's none in Australia. The batteries are apparently quite good according to a few comments on OzB, but the shipping is a killer on smaller quantities!

Edit: Actually, the shipping isn't too bad… At $1.07 per battery, 4 works out to be $13.48 and 8 would be $18.59 all up!

    • +1

We like the glittery pretty colors and the aesthetically pleasing plain white with blue writing

    • look at the specs in more detail. The LSD's drop to 30% of their charge in just over 1 year. The eneloops are claiming 75% capacity is maintained after 3 years. The eneloops are less capacity but longer shelf life..
Not an apples for apples comparison as the LSD's are probably better for different applications.

  • Just found out it is "AAA"

    • +3

Did you really spent 1 hour and 51 minutes to get to the 4th word in the title? That NiMH must be very hard to read :P

      • Hello mate. No need for the sarcasm. I wear glasses…….

        • I'll try remember that for next time I pull up to an intersection!!!

  • +1

Can't beat the 16 + charger for $25 we had a while ago lol

    • +2

      These are AAA not AA.

    • +1

      you sir beat forest318!

  • +4

    These are really good

    • +1

With a name like that I'd be amazed if you didn't think so.

You must just lurk around ozbargain waiting for these deals to come up and chime in with a useful and informative comment to promote your favourite NiMH.

Your post has sold them for me, I'm in!

    • +3

you should be reported for "sockpuppeting" LOL

  • I think this is not a good deal. Refer to the below:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137817

Got this start of this month. For $24.93 got 8 AAA Eneloops including postage.

    • I would say it's not as good of a deal, but still good.

    • And I would say that if you didn't get that deal, then tough… IT'S EXPIRED!

  • I bought these a few weeks ago for around $14 on eBay.

    • +6

      eBay risks receiving fakes.

  • I have the energiser induction wii Remote rechargeable packs that use AAA batteries. They have died, so would these be suitable to switch out?
