Philips QT4019 Stubble Trimmer $19.95 (+ $10 Postage) @ Shaver Shop

740

Shaver Shop shows this at 70% off. You're more likely to see it at $50 so this looks to be a good price.

Great stubble trimmer (you'll find reviews saying the same). I've been using daily for three years and only replacing mine as the battery is knackered and I need to use while travelling.

Their eBay page has it at the same price but shows only 6 left in stock so stocks may limited.

  • Thanks OP. I was planning on looking for one this weekend.

    Perfect for Mother's Day!

  • Wonder if its any good to cut hair with…..

    • +1

Facial hair? Well that's a given.
Hair on your head? Nope, tried that a few year ago. It's awful. Invest in proper clippers.

      • haha thanks. saves me the trip.
Might get one that is meant to be for head hair. trying to find a good cordless one.

        • +6

I recommend Wahl. It costs a bit more but it's worth it.

I also have tried both corded and cordless. Cordless just doesn't seem to be as powerful.

          I haven't tried a Wahl cordless though.

        • +4

+1 if you want something that lasts a corded Wahl is the way to go, just advoid the $30 ones from China, I found my $50 USA made one to be fantastic.

        • +1

+1 for Wahl, i got the cheapy $100 kit from shaver shop. Goes through your hair like a knife through butter

        • The newer model lithium ion cordless shavers are very good e.g. WA9854-612 (ShaverShop). Long lasting charge and quite powerful.

Not sure about full-size but if using the same breed of hardware as the above unit, worth a look.

        • I completely recommend the Wahl Ambassador Cordless Pro Lithium Hair Clipper WA8726-112

          http://www.salonsdirect.com.au/wahl-ambassador-cordless-pro-…

Its the US made Wahl clippers for salons, not the cheaper rebadged Wahls for consumers.

$122.11 shipped when using '5toff' coupon.

        • +1

I bought a Philips grooming kit at HN and got bonus Wahl clippers for $1. Better clippers than any I have had before.

Side story: now I just shave head and face with the Wahl 1 or 2 blade and don't use the Philips at all.

        • If anyone's thinking about buying the Wahl corded unit with the multi-coloured comb guides (sold most hair/beauty stores). It has the lower quality motor. Consider buying the "Designer" instead. Plain grey and black but better quality motor.

      From website

      Question
What can I use the appliance for?
      Answer
This appliance can be used to trim beards. Do not use it for any other purpose.
      Why not?
The cutting element of a beard trimmer is usually smaller than that of a hair clipper. The comb is smaller, to allow you to easily reach under the nose. Beard hairs are usually stiffer than scalp hairs. They therefore don't need to be lifted in the same way as scalp hairs. This is reflected in the comb design.
If you use a beard trimmer to trim hair on other body parts, you may experience reduced performance or even skin damage.

  • is it the same price instore?

    • yes. but most shops may not have stock, or may only have 1-2 left.

      • +2

Hopefully I can help save some people some money (I hate paying postage cost :))

The Galleries Sydney store have plently of stock (got one about 15 minutes ago). Going by this, before ordering online (if you are able to visit a store), it might be worth calling nearby store and seeing whether they have stock also.

Saved myself an extra $10 :)

      • What are you basing this on? Just seems to be an assumption. A quick scan of this thread I can only see one store which sold out but are getting more in.

Was just in the Adelaide store and they had at least 15 available.

  • I've got a Philips beard trimmer than looks like this that's still going strong after about 6 years. Great product. I'll check my local shop (Garden City, QLD) at lunch.

    • I have this exact same trimmer or another Philips model that looks exactly like this, but the battery went bad in less than 6 months. Now it doesn't hold any charge, luckily it works when plugged in, so I can still use it. Could be that I got a bad unit, just putting it out there.

      • Same here. Have this Shaver and only shaves now when plugged in or for about 30 seconds unplugged. Minor inconvenience as it's a great shaver and never pulls and has stayed sharp for 3 years now.

  • Bought one, thanks OP.

  • Bought this about 3 years ago for the same price (inc. delivery) instore. Great trimmer. Recently upgraded to the one that includes a vacuum since my sink kept getting clogged up.

    • +16

just put a few pieces of toilet paper over your sink's drain, or paper towel the whole thing and bin it all when you're done

      • great idea, never thought of that. thanks.

  • Going slightly off topic, but does anyone have any recommendations for a home hair-clipper set (for the head). The US name brands like Wahl all have a massive "Australia tax" whereby their products are over twice the price as in the US, but perhaps I don't need such expensive ones?

    • I've owned a few. After going Wahl I'll never go back. Worth the $120 I paid. Years on its as good as the first cut.

        • Nope.

This isn't it, but it's closer to what I got:

          http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0018C0MJS/ref=pd_aw_sbs_8?pi=…

        • Mine looks like that one - had it for about a year now (so 4 cuts i think).
I haven't used others so can't compare it, but I like it. It cuts well but still doesn't seem to cut as well as the ones at the hair dressers. I still need to get GF to trim the mess I end up with (I always do most of it myself).
I thought the cordless feature would be handy, but it turns out I always use it near a power point anyway.

The little trimmer is good for trimming my face before I use my electric shaver.

I bought a set of Remington clippers from Kmart for $24 last week. It came with 12 attachments, 2 combs, a cape thing, scissors… quite good value actually. They do the job just fine.

      • Had this type of thing but basic Wahl (corded) feels like 4 times the cutting power.

    • Most Remington clippers will do the job just fine. Check out Kmart, Target or Big W for them, they should be in the $20-35 range. Shave Shop also has these on special some times.

    • Pay it. It's worth it. Also see my post above.

  • Is this waterproof?

  • You can get Wahl for about $50.00, excellent for home use. Myers had one for $22 but I am not sure if its the same one that is sold in the hairshops

  • Thanks OP, been needing one of these for ages.

  • +1

I used to work in a vet clinic and the clippers we used were Oster and Wahl. I thought the Oster clippers were a little more heavy duty - the Wahl clippers felt more "plasticy" by comparison.

That said, I believe the most important thing about a set of clippers is getting a model for which you can get the blades re-sharpened. A lot of the cheaper models have specific blades and you need to buy replacements - they can't be sharpened because they can't be pulled apart and put back together again (they work as two blades moving in opposite directions).

    • The blades are only about $30. With home use - on people - they should last at least a decade, maybe two.

  • -6

This unit is terrible! It catches of courser facial hair and won't get close enough for a close trim. I'd suggest it would be a bargain price around the $10 - $15 mark MAX. If I were to spend my money again I'd invest it in something better quality and spend a little more.

    • -3

I've justified my neg with valid experience and recommended an actual bargain price for this unit. Would anyone like to give me the same due courtesy?

      • +3

I didn't neg but just because you feel that the product is so horrible that ~40% off isn't a bargain doesn't make it so.

A very similar example in electronics are things like MacBook sales: if I wasn't a fan of Apple, I'd argue that 10% off is not a bargain because the MacBook would still cost more than similar Windows laptops.

What needs to be understood is that bargains are not relative to the general available range; bargains are bargains in the context of the average cost of the individual product. If Monster has a sale on their HDMI cables and makes it 10000x cheaper at only $10, then it would still be a "bargain" even though the $10 would still have it 5x more expensive than a normal HDMI cable from eBay.

tl;dr only neg things when its not the actual cheapest price available, don't neg things because you feel that the price is not cheap enough.

        • +8

          Appropriate uses of negative vote:
Major issue with product in that it doesn't work the way it should.

        • -1

That assumes there is a physical defect, usually in the context of a refurb that removed original functionality, i.e a shipment of phones that are damaged and cannot read SIM cards, but can be used as a music player, so they're being sold at a cheaper price.

  • Purchased. Thanks OP :)

Some interesting reviews on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-QT4021-Stubble-Trimmer…

Negatives - Settings too large for stubble and loses charge within a certain period of time, maybe a year.

Most seem to recommend Philips Norelco BT5275/41 5100 Beard Trimmer.

  • I'm holidaying in the US soon, will this work over there with the lower mains voltage?

    • Should do. Just checked the power adapter of mine, says 100-240V, 50/60Hz.

You should still check specs before buying in case they've changed.

  • 1 mm is not close enough for me. I should find a perfect shaver for a close shave. Any suggestions.

  • +2

Shavershop Westfield Garden City QLD just sold their last one. Said Carindale has some stock. He then said it's in the next catalogue at same price with stock due next week

  • I've had one of these for about 3.5 years. Battery is gone too, but it works fine when plugged in.

  • Just buy a Braun made in Germany. They are very good and had lifetime warrenty.

    • Not all Braun is made in Germany, i believe the Braun Beard and Stubble one is made in China.

  • how about the target one

    _http://www.target.com.au/p/remington-pro-sports-pack-haicut-kit-hc8-8au/54615366

  • Thanks OP

  • I went into the Brisbane CBD store and they have plenty of them instock however they are selling them for $29. I showed her the online price and said it's the same price because of $10 shipping. I didn't buy one

    • +2

Gave me the same story too, there's about 25+ in stock in Brisbane CBD

Didn't end up buying one, it felt a bit cheap in your hands

  • Just bought one for $19.95 at Vic Glen Waverley store, that's their ticket price and still have a few.

    • Oh snap, must've missed you by a minute

  • Picked one up from The Glen, VIC. Doesn't feel like a $70 product (feels a bit plastic-ky) but for $19.95, why not?

Been using a Philishave 2 head shaver with pop up trimmer for the last 8 years without problems.

  • +1

I've had one of these for a few months and use it a couple of times a week on the lowest setting. When I need to meet clients for work I break out the panasonic wet/dry (bought off a deal here from amazon). Shaving right down to the skin gives me a rash a couple of days later so luckily I don't have to do it very often.

So far the Philips has been fine, I know there are way better trimmers out there, but for the price this is going well.

  • Wooo needed one of these. Great deal. Thanks OP.

  • I want a stubble trimmer where you don't have to go over the same spot 10 times to get the perfect length. Does this one do that?

    • +9

Tried mine at the 1mm setting and this one does it for me, and more. Gave me that masculine stubble every woman melts over. Went out in public and they were all over me - had to fend them off with a sharp stick.

  • Thanks. got one.

  • damn it. should've got one at southland today

  • Gents, if you can spend a bit more, I highly recommend this one, it gives you a close shave, in 0.5mm increments!

    http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/beard-trimmers/phi…

  • Need to get a new trimmer to trim body hair (chest/arms/legs…. I'm a wog, so hairy mofo that likes to keep the hair to a manageable length, so maybe 5-10mm lengths)… but also wouldn't mind something that can do beard trimming down to close stubble lengths (so 0.5-1.0mm lengths)

Anyone know of anything versatile enough to do both well?

  • +1

They got heaps of stock in chastwood for $20

  • My order from yesterday was delivered this morning. Super speedy!

    • +1

They couldn't wait to get rid of them :p

  • WTH, went to their blacktown shop and got told its 29.95

  • How quick was delivery.. quickest ever! Will give the bearded lady a trim shortly.. stay tuned! :)
