  • Scored 3 domains, thanks
But what is the catch? Why are these given away?

    • Possibly they email you when they expire and hope you renew with them. If you start using these names its unlikely you'll just abandon them in 2 years when they ask you to pay

      • Yep, and auDA are running a .net.au promotion at the moment, so they are all $1 across the board.

Lose $1 here for the potential to earn $10 next year - seems like a smart move to me!

        • +3

You are right. To clarify, .net.au is free for two years not one.

    • beaten

    • +2

In addition to what others have already mentioned it helps us to spread the word and win some love along the way :)

  • +1

Thanks, registered a bunch. I got some domains hosted with NetLogistics also. They have good customer service.

  • Hi Rep, does this include transfers?

    • Sorry should have just checked, looked like it does. Good stuff :)
Ha, existing provider not being very forthcoming with EPP code… :(

    • Yes, transfers are free as well.

    • +1

.au transfers are free anyway. Remember, your domain won't be renewed when it's transferred. It will have the same expiry date.

      • Ahh, Thanks, I didn't know about the expiry staying the same. That's a bummer.

  • Nice, just registered - I don't know anything about hosting a website with regards to design, so this will be a nice bit of practice for me before I buy a .com.au domain.

Any advice with regards to designing my photography website, Victor?

    • +1

      Hi Andy,

I am glad to have your domain registered with us. Since you are new to hosting, I suggest keeping it simple.

Start with a shared hosting plan that comes with Cpanel, it will let you install CMS such as WordPress easily.

Once WordPress is installed you can install free or premium themes to give the look you desire.

Until this stage you don't need any programming skills. If you need to customize theme then you can hire developers at sites such as odesk.com freelancer.com etc

      Hope this helps!

      • Thanks, Victor, that gives me a good starting point!

Sent you a private message asking bout my order with my details attached - never got the confirmation email, so just checking :).

    • One word for websites for photographers - Smugmug :)

  • Does reg info appear in whois check or not?

    • Yes, it does. It is as per the regulations.

  • thanks rep!

So I would stay away from these guys for anything serious. Free domains might be fun but they have a seriously shifty business model. Apparently it is acceptable to be a domain registrar without offering DNS hosting. So then the business model is to upsell you to a hosting package. I don't know of a single other domain registrar that operates in this way. Even scummy companies like go daddy or enom offer a DNS host. Pathetic

    • +1

Crazy Domains is another that doesn't provide free DNS hosting

      • +1

        Neither DynDNS AFAIK

    • +1

its not that hard to find free dns providers which provide better service than domain registrars. cloudflare, rackspace, zonedit etc etc

    • Most of our customers use DNS hosting with their host or one of the several DNS providers. We are however looking into providing DNS hosting for all domains registered with us.

    • you dont need dns hosting to own a domain, all you have to do is point your domain to your server's name server records, for you to get name server records for your server, thats when you need dns hosting, your server provider can help you out with the dns hosting for that..

    • Heard of CloudFlare? Stable as (profanity), probably better than any registrar DNS!

  • all domains are pending?

    • Hang in there mate, some domains are audited by our Domains team to make sure all info provided is correct.

    • how long it takes to get them approve?

      • A fair few people have taken advantage of this offer, hence the delay. Let me know if yours are still pending.

        • +1

          still pending

  • +2

VentraIP are also offering the same special however from what I believe no limit. just need to use coupon code MMMNETAU

    • If anyone planning to combine .net.au with .com.au then we offer them at only $20 for two years.

      • No offence REP, but plenty of providers offer .com.au for $20 for 2 years - that is the standard price.

However, the .net.au for free is good. Do you have any fees for transfers away from you?

        • +1

None taken :) My reply was in response to company mentioned by irajohn90

Anyways, there is no fees on transfers away from us.

        • thanks for letting me know.

    • I believe VentraIPs deal is $1 for new customers or free for existing customers.

  • is it only for people having ABN/ACN?

    • Yes, you need ABN or ACN in order to register.

  • what if i am a soletrader and need one.. i dont have abn or acn..

    • +2

If you want to be taken seriously, get an ABN.

    • It only take few minutes to register ABN. I can't see any downside of getting one anyways.

  • -2

abn/acn is auDa requirement for all .au domains

    • …for -all- .au domains?!?

I think you may mean for .COM.AU & .NET.AU, right?

(It'd be just like auDa to try to ban individuals from holding an Aussie domain, but it seems unduly restrictive to the indiv's)

      • I believe you are right. AFAIK you don't need it for id.au, which is considered to be a non-business personal domain.

  • Just a reminder to those who are negging this deal, you can transfer the domain away after it is registered :)

Cost of moving a .au domain.. $0.

    • +5

Shhhh… you just let the cat out the bag :)

    • Wait does that mean you can convert it from a .net.au to simply .net for free?

    • What do you mean by this? forwarding?

  • -1

Heads up, their technical support team is based in India and not locally in Australia.

    • We do have an office in India and so in Sydney. The workload is shared between the two places.

    • -1

For me, India is No. 2, just after AU:

My preferred location for a vendor's support call-centre:

      1. AU
      2. IN
      3. Fiji (good English, they also try harder)
        :
      4. Phillipines (too often: time wasters; sometimes mislead;
        English second to… well No. 98, for one… ;-)
  • Nice deal. How about free .xxx registration buddy!?

    • +1

They are only $85 per year, I am sure I can convince the management ;)

  • any idea on when these domains will be out of "Pending" status?

    • We are manually registering the domains hence it is taking longer than usual. We are doing this to make sure all domains meet the regulations set by auDA and avoid any fraud.

Appreciate your patience in this matter.

      • +1

With all due respect, how can you be -sure- about fraud?

  • Are the free domains still available?

    • +2

Yes, they are. We are past the 500 mark but we are keeping it going just a little more longer :)

  • +1

I can't wait until one reseller pays us to register a domain with them!

    • +1

      Don't give them any ideas…lol

    • Hey, it could happen… Google's begun to micro-pay for Survey answers. (Use that funny-money ONLY for Google Play products.)

  • How long until the pending is removed?
I would have paid someone else if I knew it was going to take all night plus some to register. Once it goes through I want to register a .com.au.

    • +1

Crazy domains took 48 hours+ for my domain to be live, just be paintent

    • It is usually a very quick process. Promos are different story all together, even though we had extra staff on shift the queue is still large to clear quickly.

Appreciate your patience in this matter.

  • Remember when .AU domains used to cost ~ $79.00…?

I can't recall if that was for just ONE (or 2) year(s)…
anyone go back that far & remember?

  • Just wanted to say thanks to the rep, registration was very simple too!

    • +1

You are most welcome. Thank you for the feedback.

  • +3

Thanks everyone for participating. We registered way beyond 500 domains in last 24 hours. Some are still pending but they will be registered soon.

Keep an eye on other great promotions coming from Net Logistics. May be next Monday we will have something for everyone again.

    Have a great week.

    • Victor, can you check your private messages please - I have a question about my website.

  • I've submitted 3 domains for registering… they are still in pending after 2 days …

Trying to submit a ticket … they want me to make a new account on top of the old account !?

Trying to browse through the website and actually log in into the dashboard is a pain…

I'm glad i didn't order anything else nor will i ever!

    • Sorry to hear that you didn't had a smooth first experience with us. Please pm me your details and I'll look into it asap.

  • Do you need abn to register?

what if we don't have one, what domain can we use?

    • canttalkaboutit.net.au ?

  • Anybody figured out how to bind(redirect) the domain name to existing site? Eg, www.mydomainname.net.au to www.mydomainname.com

    • It depends entirely on the setup of your existing domain. It could be as easy as a CNAME from www.mydomainname.com to www.mydomainname.net.au.

    • Just use domain forwarding in cPanel for the .net.au

    • Htaccess Redirect

      Options +FollowSymLinks
      RewriteEngine on
      RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

      PHP Redirect

      <?
      Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
      Header( "Location: http://www.new-url.com" );
      ?>

      HTML Redirect

      <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html">

One of my two domain names was cancelled without explanation and without notice. Poor customer relations. Revoked my + vote.

    • I was given a call from this company after 22 days asking me about the domains i tried to register through them. Needles to say i changed the company and registered those domains within hours.

At the other end was a lady who spoke very slowly, in a rather bored tone and very unpleasant overall.

      Really poor customer relations …

      • Hi Zapy,

Thanks for your feedback, I've already raised this with higher ups and they are looking into it right away. Customer service is where we triumph and we will do our best to address the issues your mentioned in your post.

Please PM me the domains you were trying to register, we will investigate this further.

    • Hi Alvian,

The reason any domain name is cancelled by us is because they do not meet auda requirements. Please refer to the links here http://auda.org.au/policies/2012-05/ and here http://auda.org.au/policies/2012-04/

      Hope this explains better.

      • Hi Alvian,

I even asked for support and got no replies on your behalf after 1 week since the attempt.

I'm sorry but i will not be doing any deals with you in the future.

        Good luck.

        • I completely understand where you are coming from. Please PM me your domains/email address. This will give us the opportunity to rectify the problems you have faced. Without this information we won't be able to identify the root cause.

          Thanks

zapy, I am a Professional OzBargainer. You have mistaken me with Victor from NetLogistics.

I hope you will still do deals with me in the future :-)

The reason any domain name is cancelled by us is because they do not meet auda requirements

I can assure you that the cancelled domain name is fully compliant with auDA requirements. The domain name is <my-full-name>.net.au. Can you get more "exact match of registrant's name" than that? And no, my full name is not John Smith, and there isn't another person in this world with the same name at this moment in time.

        • Hi Alvian,

In that case please PM me your domain or email address and I'll investigate why it was rejected.

        • I see that you have already PM'ed me. Will get back to soon.
