I'm guessing the plusses are from those that imported the ChromeCast - since it's not locally available (fishpond counts a sa grey import in my books).

How do I get my amazon account back from amazon.com.au?
    After getting this?

It's amazing how much credibility a book (or e-book) has over a website :D
Can't they just put all this on a website?

    • -1

A website is more difficult to view offline…

While true, I can't imagine too many people are using a chromecast who don't have access to an internet connection. Streaming content is largely its strength.

  • Told me I saved $8.99.
    Thanks.

Wonder when is Australia getting Chromecast? I see Cnet's sources missed with 7th May target date…

    • +4

Well if rumours are correct, whenever Telstra decides to release it….no doubt crippled, tied to their network & at an overly inflated price.

      • +1

With a stupid name designed for mums and dads to understand. Telstra rename EVERYTHING.

Calling-line Identification was too technical, needed to be "Calling Number Display".

I wonder what they would call it.

What has a telco got to do with Chromecast?

        • Right, its a completely local device that interfaces with your phone/tablet/PC over wifi.

Who here has got the Chromecast delivered to Australia the cheapest?
I got 3 from Amazon using MyUs (including $10 first time use fee) for AU$56 each.

    • +1

that's about a usual price…some claim to have gotten it under $50 on fishpond, but I wouldn't use them.

Do you actually find it worth while? I'm tempted to get miracast as you're not limited.

      • I got it recently at USD$32 in a bundled purchase with SanDisk connect wireless USB from Amazon. I regret buying the SanDisk USB which is a total waste but the chrome cast is simply amazing you do need a few good apps to use its full potential.

      • We use our Chromecast all the time! Combined with unblock-us, Netflix is awesome. Not to mention Plex and now the HTML5 casting from Chrome for Android.

        • What's Plex like streaming 1080p blu ray rips?

        • I got three posted to shipito.com for $30 USD (was on sale on amazon) free shipping to my usa dropship.

Then it was $10 USD to ship back to Australia.

$115 USD in total for 3.

      • I've bought 2 from Fishpond with no problems and perfect packaging. Took ~3-4 weeks delivery though.

Got it for $40 in December https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124104
Bought it for a mate for $50 in March https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/132651

  • I haven't heard of Miracast. I like the Chromecast, for what i used it for i don't find it limited. What I like about it is that it just works and the connections don't drop. For example I've used WDTV Live HD to stream YouTube in the past and my connection kept dropping, with Chromecast I haven't had this problem yet.
Plex works nicely, I use my iPad1 as a remote.

    • My Sony HDTV has Miracast support, so my Nexus 5 can connect wirelessly without a Chromecast and can do most things the Chromecast can, other than casting Google Chrome tabs (I have a chromecast on a 'dumb' TV though)

I'm presuming supabrudda means a Miracast adapter, which is similar to a Chromecast.

  • saved $8.99, haven't got the chromecast yet.
    Thanks.

  • Am I correct in understanding that for a chromecast to work you need to have a television that has a powered HDMI port, and that standard HDMI (where you'd connect your blu-ray, AV receiver etc) is not sufficient?

    • +4

No, normal HDMI port is fine.

The chromecast is powered via a microUSB cable and comes with US-plug USB power supply :)

  • Might have expired… It is showing the following for me:

Kindle Price: $3.99 includes tax, if applicable

  • Darn, missed it and i actually have a chromecast lol
Any comments from those who have the ebook?

    • Got a chromecast last week, learned nothing of interest from this book :P

  • Has anyone worked out a way to print the whole ebook from Kindle Cloud Viewer? (rather than print page by page?)
