I eventually got through. Try again! Still not really sure at all what the value proposition is here. Very confused.

  • I got the invite to this as well and have NO clue how it works or what it means… anyone??

Basically you get upgraded to a business class seat if one is available. You pay $3 + additional fee which is refundable (my flight is currently $180). They will tell you a day or so if you've been upgraded. If you don't get upgraded you get your additional fee back.

It's a standard deal and not a bargain.

What you're describing isn't their Flight Pass thing.

Flight pass is when you pre-pay a set amount and are given the option to book a certain number of flights in a certain timeframe.

eg. pay $644 now which gives you 4 flights in asia that you can book at least 60 days before travel in a 12 month period. So if the price goes up, you won't pay extra.

        I think…

        • Your right.. didn't notice it's something new.

  • What is this?

  • Okay I think I've worked it out. The red dollar amounts are per leg, which you multiply by the number of flights your pass has. So you could go to Melbourne->KL->Chengdu(or whatever) 3 times for $180 each within a certain period, paying a total of $1620(maybe?).

They're relying on you not using your flights within the time limits. That's why the flights reach normal price with the 12 month passes.

  • Ever since I made an enquiry to optiontown about the flightpass they keep ringing me up and trying to talk me into buying it. Me thinks they are desperate to get their hands on a wad of cash for sign up to this, and that they are pushing it hard. I'm suspicious!! Also I'm sure that it can cover more than just AirAsiaX (D7) as the title here reads.

Basically when u book an economy fare with air Asia, you can log into options town and register and pay to get a potential upgrade.

Can't remember all the ins and outs but I did it on nye when I was flying back from KL to Melb I paid $159 for the economy fare directly with air Asia, then logged into options town with my flight info and they offered a chance to upgrade to business for 25% of the price difference which was $150US compared to $600US.

On the day of the flight I got an email saying I was accepted so at check in they put me in seat 1B definetly worth the chance. I know they refund you if your not accepted and they manage to sell business class fares closer to the day of your flight

Google options town reviews you will understand better ;@)

    • Mehhh nge all you want I guess
The deal posted isn't even clear on what's it's for

This is not a deal. Optiontown has been around for ages.

Not a deal. Optiontown is luck of the draw if you get it. Not dependent on how early you pay either.

  • -4

Just bear in mind that you have to pay the non-refundable joining fee which works out to about AUD$4 give or take. There's also no guarantee that you'll get the upgrade (whether it's to the premium flatbed or whatever else). They'll refund it, but it's usually 5-10 days after your travel. I know people who have been upgraded at the price, and people who haven't, thus losing the AUD$4.

Sure it's only $4, but this is ozbargainers I'm talking to here so you'll understand. >P

This isn't Optiontown upgrade, read the link. It's a deal where you pay in advance for X sectors, and if you sacrifice flexibility or purchase more sectors it brings down the price of each sector.

oooops fair enough. I just saw Optiontown (and i clicked on the link too) and figured it was all part of the normal upgrade deal. My bad.

  • I've flown AirAsiaX a few times and Optiontown had always send me email for discounted upgrade option. However, as I'd always paid for non-refundable HotSeat at the time of booking, it worked out to be quite costly to upgrade. I'm curious to find out if Optiontown users reserve their seats at all.

Pick seat, luggage and meal can be prebook as close as 4 hours before. I get notify a day before if i got the upgrade (Premium seat include 20kg and meals) so i dont need to pre book anything. If not I prebook luggage, meal and pick seat the night before. (In peak season all hot seat might be book out the night before, so that the chance you got to take)

  • upgrade option just like gambling with non-refundable fee. worse than gambling if u get upgraded u still have to pay extra (although with cheaper cost)

with this flight pass it's only cheap if u have annual leave more than twice in a year:) most of us only go holiday once a year. would be expired before u use all the flight.

Hi- have flown Air asia many many times- and have used the upgrade option through optiontown several times- On THAT deal- they do promptly refund you if you dont get the upgrade- DO NOT CHECK IN FOR YOUR FLIGHT EARLY as this exempts you from upgrade. THIS NEW DEAL- also saw it- looks extremely interesting- there are lots of options for flight "coupons" - a bit like the old circle asia coupons with Qantas way back (for the oldies out there) or the USA flight coupons with United. You PREPAY for a certain no of flight sectors to be used in a set time- (can be 3-24 months) - and for a set number of passengers- can be 1 to 8 - and then pick a flexibility ( i want to fly ONLY that day or happy 3 days either side) - and then wait to get seats. I have NOT (as yet) taken it up- as cant find any feedback yet on how well it works and HOW YOU actually book once you have your coupons- turn around time etc…If anyone HAS jumped in- please share!

  • When I researched this option for premium economy Syd - Kul 6 flights over 12 months I was going to have to pay about $5k up front. About $100 saving per flight. But I could not use it for Fly thru. So I would have to do separate booking for onwards flights. Plus 2 Immigration and recheck in baggage each way at Kul!! Great if only going to KUL tho.

  • Yep I am also tossing this up….we want to fly Melb - Ho Chi and Hanoi to Melb….costly exercise….trying to decide whether this flight pass would save or cost more…..

Of course on further investigation it does not include Vietnam…..

  • So I have crunched the numbers so to speak……there are 4 of us looking at going to Vietnam this Dec/Jan…if we go with the flight pass it will save us about half the original fare…however, we will need to book separate flights to Hanoi/Ho chi Minh (no real hassles there)….

I am only worried about WHAT flights they will put you on….I wish there was somewhere on there that would tell you which flights you can actually use it for.

    • A word of warning about separate bookings. KLIA2 is another shit hole. They replaced LCCT shithole with another shithole. if you have to do immigration x 2 and recheck in baggage it is as painful or worse than LCCT. It looks great from the air, but once you get inside and have to walk several miles and do the 'Malaysian queue' immigration torture in no aircond. you would prob come to same conclusion. Not to mention the 2 Xray screenings!!
