While preparing for the Mario Kart 8 release on Saturday I looked around for some good deals on Wii Remotes. I found that BigW seems to have the best deal at $58 for the new limited editions. The normal price seems to be $65-$69 for the plain ones. The catalogue shows Yoshi and Peach editions only, so I assume that Mario and Luigi editions are not part of the deal.

Has anyone found a better deal?

Couldn't we use a Wii remote plus costs about $15-19 on a Wii U system?

    • It doesnt even need to be a plus…
      Any wii remotes works fine..

      • +1

Don't understand why pay $58 for one which does the same thing except for it is Yoshi/Peach Limited Edition.

    • nintendo original? or clone? I don't like clones.

      • Genuine Nintendo when those retail stores cleared them out months ago. Some even included a Wii Resort or Party game etc. for less than $20.

        • +1

wtfnodeal is talking about the addon device you clip to an original wiimote to make it a wii plus mote - which a lot of retailer cleared out. Genuine Wii Plus motes retail a lot higher then $20.

        • -1

No. I am talking about full remote plus not just click on plus. Haven't you seen them bundled with those Party games for less than $20?

        • +1

not much help if it was months ago

        • Yeh.. that's completely irrelevant. You can't consider something that isn't readily available now, to something that is. :)

(If it is still available, please do link)

@Giteau, If you love the idea of Nintendo discontinuing Wii remote plus and repacking the Wii U remote limited edition as a new product then you must love how Apple discontinued iPhone 5 and repacked iPhone 5c a new product.
Edit: not as cheap as $20 but this certainly better value than just a limited edition remote plus https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/142832

I was wondering how Apple or Nintendo marketing strategies seemed ridiculous to me but now i know it works on certain people.

        • +2

I got three new Wii remote plus's, 3 copies of Just Dance and 3 Nintendolands for $3 last week.

          Win.

        • Congrats, tell that to Giteau as he does not believe a Wii rebadged to Wii U limited edition remote plus for $59 is bad value for money.

        • I wasn't even being personal, but I will have to be serious now.

Once again, that is irrelevant. That is not the normal price Target sells it for, as well as most other retail stores. Why do you keep considering these when they're not widely (& currently) available?

The iPhone analogy also isn't applicable to this. But of course the Apple strategy is terrible.

What I'm saying is that you're downgrading this price of $58 for absolutely no reason, as it is actually a decent price for what is available right now As stated in the description, most places retail normal onces for $65-$70, and this is (Limited Edition) is $58.

Your logic is flawed, why is it so difficult for you to understand?

        • That's good and all for Cake, but once again, it is irrelevant! Has absolutely nothing to do with special edition, or 'Nintendo marketing strategies'.

My mind is being blown, I need some support over here.

        • Yeah i was replying to WTF's comment of retail clear outs. Some Targets were selling the WiiU basic accessory packs for $1 each! I bought 3 (for the controllers) at my local.

        • @Cake Yeh, sorry that wasn't directed at you, was directed at WTF. I will now address who I'm replying to :)

          Good steal btw.

        • @Giteau, most retailers sell it for $65 is way too expensive by my standard and $58 is still bad value for money by my standard. Judging by the number of upvotes including you have not upvoted it yet i would say not many ozbargainers think it is a decent price. Satisfied?

        • @WTF I acknowledge that $58 isn't a massive deal. However, you just said it yourself that the retail price for normal plus remotes is $65+

So basically what you're saying is that any Wii Remote Plus selling at retail price is a rip off.

Concluding that once again, all your comments are completely irrelevant, as you're only considering sales, clearances, one offs, as your base price mentality.

Furthermore, all that stuff you said about Nintendo marketing strategy, and "Nintendo discontinuing Wii remote plus and repacking the Wii U remote limited edition as a new product" is just completely wrong.

        • @Giteau, don't make assumptions on me here. I think most of the Nexus phones and tablets at RRP are good value for money and doesn't have to be on sale or clearance.

Wii remote plus now still manufactured as Wii accessories by Nintendo? If so i apologise about it as i first thought Nintendo doesnt make Wii Accessories anymore. I thought They all now repackaged as Wii U accessories.
          it.
Edit: i think i will make it simple for you since you are the one not getting my point here. Nintendo is selling a 4 years old technology with a current year price tag by adding limited edition "skin" on it.

        • @WTF But that's the thing. It has nothing to do with the Limited Edition. The same remote is still at that current price, because it is still the current standard for the Wii U console, regardless of whether it is normal or limited edition.

And I was only referring to the Wii Remotes, regarding RRP. Not making assumptions on any other product line/brand.

Answer me this : If this happened to not be a 'Limited Edition', then what price would it be? Any less? I don't think so… (Disregard any specials and what not in the past, because once and for all! it is not relevant)

How much would this '4 year technology' cost if you went out and tried to purchase one? It's the same dang thing as a PS3 controller at RRP.

        • According to 4892 comments it has something to do with limited edition. If you attend some short marketing courses then you will know about product life cycle and all relevant strategies.

Yes you have just answered your own question that PS3 remote at higher price than a PS4 remote and you have no choice but to buy a PS3 remote if you must buy one at RRP for any reason. But you have to consider the Wii U remote plus is not a must to play all Wii U games.

        • Nvm, you're not getting it.

Especially your first 2 comments, they're just completely wrong. :)

        • Yeah I couldn't be bothered to give you free tutorials either.

        • Good talk.

Did I mention I got 3 new Wii remote plus's, 3 copies of Just Dance and 3 Nintendolands for $3 last week?

Damn this debate parallels the BirdyMcBirdBird VS caprimulgus stoush over a similar issue many years ago :P https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68688#comment-846544

Remember you can use the 10% off code

  • Is a motion plus Wii remote up to the same spec as a Wii u remote?

    • It's the same thing, yes.

    • +1

game like zelda skyward sword required motion plus (giving 1:1 translation of your gestures).. :) otherwise its the same thing

  • +1

Thanks OP. I was looking at getting these since I saw them advertised at EB for $69. Then I see this deal for $58 and combine it with the 10% off means I can grab both :)
For some reason retailers rarely have deals on the Wii Remotes (Genuine Nintendo with the Wii U branding). I understand they did a while back clearing old stock, but the new stock is always near full price.

I am buying them for the Limited Edition factor and I guess this deal will help others who are looking for these ones in particular. Us collectors are crazy ;)

  • THANKS. Although this is "old" technology, it's still current and my daughter is pumped to get a princess controller. Not many accessories that are marketed at girls, so I'm really happy to save some dollars this weekend. Thanks OP.

      Current gen = 'old technology'?

Well, I just stopped by Target on the way home from work and saw one of those Just Dance packs (Just Dance + Nintendoland + Wii remote plus + sensor bar). It said $1 on the price tag which seemed odd so I took it to the checkout to verify. It was correct… $1… I grabbed all 3 packs they had left and got three white Wii remote plus for $3! Unbelievable deal. So go to your local Target and check it out. Mine is a country Target.

    • Yeah I mentioned that up here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146079#comment-2014568

Stock is very low, you were lucky to find any as I scoured a few local Targets and had a relative do the same a few weeks back and then was lucky enough to find one last week with 3 in stock.

    • Can not find any anywhere. Wish I knew about this earlier :-( I'm really after a couple of remotes for mariokart 8! Anyone willing to sell theirs if it is brand new?

  • Cheaper right now to use the "bargain" code and get this shipped from Ozgameshop for $54.99 ($5 off over $30 spend).
