No they had to send them all to Logan and woodridge.

  • 3 different sized hex-head bolts and a ziptie. That will f**k 'em!

      ha ha…

      post of the week !!!

    • Screws screwed by screws…

  • Edit: Nevermind. This answers my question.

"The screws are designed to be installed by a standard ‘flat bladed’ screwdriver but have a non return head slot. A ‘special tool’ has been developed to be able to reverse the screw from the vehicle. These tools are held at certain Police Stations for people to attend if the need arises for the removal of the number plates."

These tools are held at certain Police Stations

as well as number plate thieves…

  • I had a set of these on my previous car and found that I could remove them with a standard flat screwdriver with a bit of patience and applying pressure onto the face of the screw. I guess it would still slow someone down though if they were attempting to steal them.

  • Vice grps will get them off

So will VISE grips - but clearly not as wickedly as the ones you mentioned which are obviously designed for criminals.

Just use an ordinary nut and bolt, and once it's in place, use vice grips to partially crush the bit of the bolt that sticks out past the nut. You can loosen it, but you won't get that off unless you can access the inside of the car's boot, and you'll need a socket wrench or vice grips.

Nyloc nuts are another solution, particularly if you use two per bolt and jam them together.

  • Regardless of all the tricks and tips… anything that makes it more difficult is a bonus…….

Rayve… even though you seem to be right, I have always thought it was spelt vice grips also… Ya learn sumtin every day …!! :-)

  • Another way to slow down thieves is superglue around the screws.
Sure, you can remove it with acetone, but thieves rarely carry that.
It is easy to apply superglue as it is thin and rapidly wicks into the gap.

The problem is that my plates are attached to the soft plastic bumper, so neither method is much help.

    • Maybe try pop rivets? You can get them in stainless steel, aluminium would be too soft. Buy from Whitworths Marine, there are two branches in WA, and they sell the rivets singly for under a dollar each.

If you can get access to the inside of your bumper, put close-fitting washers over the rivets before you expand them. Whitworths sell washers too. And the tool to expand them too, if you can't borrow one.

  • I just saw on the Western Australia Police facebook site that this is also being offered in Perth (Western Australia) at the following locations:

WA Police will fit free anti-theft screws to number plates:
Saturday 14 June 2014 Claremont Bunnings
Saturday 05 July 2014 Cottesloe Bunnings
Saturday 26 July 2014 Homebase Subiaco Bunnings.
The fitting will take place between 0800 and 1200.
