I have just got 2 of these unit. Let hope its better Uniden iG Cam

    • +1

Yeah I ordered one too, these are very good value for money from all the reviews I've read!

  • Does the suction last after a few months under direct sunlight?

    • There have been no complaints about the suction mount failing

      • Uhhh… no. There have. It's a fairly common complaint with all dash cams that use suction cup mounts.

    • Depends where you put it - if it's on a completely clear bit of windscreen then it should be fine, but if you put it on the dot matrix section (which is usually all around the mirror, so if you wanted to somewhat hide the camera) then it's a crap shoot - have heard of more people (myself included) not being able to get them to stick here than those that have had success.

The camera itself is great though.

It was posted (in comments, not OP) in link below for $41.79 from GearBest using coupon EG0479601

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145961

    • That's correct, but that is in US dollars. US$41.79 -> AUD$47.47 (change the currency on the top right). This one is AUD$45.42. A saving of $2.05. Enough to buy $2 hungry jacks whooper

  • better than blackvue?

    • +1

I have one of these and yes, better than Blackvue IMO, especially the night time recording, Blackvue don't do so well with that. Have a read of dashcamtalk, it's a great site.

  • Can anyone reccommend something similar to this but with the capability to plug a reversing camera into it?

    Thanks, ordered one!

I have an almost identical cam (120 degrees instead of 140) and it's great. No problem at all identifying number plates on the pc even when they are at a distance. Conveniently loops the recording so you don't need to delete old video to make more space. I get about 3 hours video loop (3 minute individual files) using a 32gb card. Switches itself off when the ignition switches off too. Well worth $45 just for the crazy stuff you see out on the roads and could potentially make insurance claims easier too.

    • +2

Looks like a rebranded G1W (Non -H model) so very close to identical. Seems strange that you get 3hrs video on a 32gb card, the -H is the same resolution/quality etc but I get around 5hrs on a 32gb card (as do most others I've heard of with them). Maybe you have some locked files taking up extra space?

      • I haven't really looked into it too much to be honest. I probably do have some locked files because I've pressed that button a couple of times but then not removed the files.

    • Same here. Ordered on 6th June and it's still processing today on 18th June. What's the point of telling us all that the item is in stock and yet we have to wait weeks for the order to be processed?

  • +1

Bought two - now I get worried after reading this forum discussion.
    Hope all can be sorted.

    • +1

was about to buy one of these but thanks to your post, i think i will past!
      thanks for the heads up!

  • Already have one (ordered from ebay), so decided to get a 2nd for the back window. Ordered last week, took 7 calendar days dispatch. Apparently dispatched from Singapore. The other thread makes me nervous though. At least I paid with PayPal so I can file a dispute if needs be.

As for the camera itself, they are pretty good. Especially for the price. Only thing is a lot of the G1W-H's seem to have poor microphones. My current G1W-H has very low microphone volume, but can be remedied by boosting the volume when transcoding clips.

    My final price was ~$44AUD

    • +1

Mine arrived today with the free shipping option. That's 24 calendar days, shipped with SingPost.

      • Confirmed, it is a genuine G1WH. In fact the microphone on this one is much better than the first one I got off ebay. Seems to be a lottery in regards to microphone. Anyway, they both record to mov files and they both were flashable with other firmwares that are based on the the hardware. Thumbs up for the price/performance ratio. It can't be beat at the moment.

  • Mine arrived today, but I opted for the expedited shipping.

    • When did you order? I ordered on the 15th and picked them up from the post office today (attempted delivery yesterday), this is without expedited shipping.

Also for anyone wondering if they're fake - I compared the files (file type, quality, bitrate etc) to another G1WH I'd bought previously and they're exactly the same - the fakes generally have a tell e.g. they're AVI instead of MOV files, or not 1920x1080 resolution etc, so I'd say that they're legit.

      • The video quality on mine seem a lot worse than the G1W I bought off ebay. There's a lot more artifacting, especially at night, and any light sources are crunched into blobs of light with hard edges.

I ordered mine on the 16th

        • Do you have an example video you could chuck on youtube? I just compared one of my Gearbest cameras to the foxoffer one and both are nice and clear, no artifacting etc, only problem with the gearbest one is the sound quality isn't as good. I've only tested the gearbest one during the day though.

        • Why is sound recording important? Doesn't it just capture the sound inside the car (driver/passengers talking or radio/CD music)?

        • Yes, that's right. I personally have the sound muted.

        • Could be used as extra backup/proof eg if you're in an accident and someone says you weren't indicating and you can hear the indicator relay on the recording it proves them wrong. Plus the camera won't always catch a number plate that you can - at night most plates are too over exposed to read clearly from the camera but you can read them - so if you're in an accident you can speak the number plate in case the camera doesn't get it.

I keep the sound recording on, and if I ever upload a video/have to use one to prove something I can just use movie maker or something else to kill off the audio.

        • Just as you can use a movie maker or something to add the signal relay audio if you need it. I doubt audio can be used as evidence.

        • If it's serious enough that someone is going to try to prove that the video/audio has been altered to have it dismissed as evidence, then you'd be stupid to modify it at all. If it's just an insurance investigation and the other party says you weren't indicating but the audio sounds like you were, they're not likely to look into it any further - it will help you.

All in all, if you want to turn the audio off then you can do so quite easily, but for me I see no harm in leaving it turned on, and muting it only if I'm uploading a video to show someone - if I'm using the video in an insurance claim/to defend myself for some other reason, I'll be keeping the original unmodified videos and using these to help my case.

  • I ordered mine on the 12 June, and it still hasn't arrived…I am from Melb by the way…

I'll give it another couple of days before I start barking at Gearbest.

    • Dear siu_loong_bao,

Thanks very much for your ordering with us. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused.

Could you please tell us your order number? We will check it.

      Thanks for your support.

      Best Regards

  • I received my item today. I'm in Brisbane though. Going to test it out tonight

  • +1

I received mine today(in Brisbane), originally ordered on the 10th of June. (It actually arrived a day or two ago, but I had to pick it up from the post office).

  • Just went for a drive at night time and the quality is surprisingly good. Number plates were easy to read. Signage was easy too. Only downside I found was that the car charger interfered with my radio.

  • Received mine with few weeks. Good price. Will shop with them again,
The video quality is much better than uniden iGo CAM300.

    Questions:
    1. Would you hide the dash cam when you park your car?
It is not that expensice but not sure about car theft.

2., does it need a warning sticker about recording device is in use?
eg. letting the police know the conversation may be recorded during a stop by RBT.
    for legal reason.

    • +2
      1. I don't bother hiding mine, it's not that visible from outside and I doubt anyone would break in to steal the camera - if anything it may put them off breaking in, if they think it could be recording all the time.
      2. Not a lawyer but I don't believe you need a warning sticker - if you want to use the footage/sound as evidence when you're stopped by the police then you would be best off telling them that you're recording the conversation (though I wouldn't specifically point out the camera, as they may then want to confiscate it for evidence, especially if you were pulled over for dangerous driving or similar)
  • Can anyone share some tips re this dashcam:
    1. how can the cam be fixed to the mount? It seems the cam is just slided into the grove loosely. Keep falling out when driving.
    2. when engine starts, instead of video picture, it starts on the wallpaper/screensaver page (ie the car). Unsure if it is recording.
    Thank you in advance.

    • +1

I've been using it for a few months now. The mount fits tightly to the camera and I've never had it fall off. It was actually difficult to take it off when I wanted to. It always goes straight to the video screen when I start the car and has a recording symbol so you know it's on. I hardly ever need to touch any buttons on it now that it's set up.

  • Thank you donga100. Followed your comment. Solved the issues.
    1. Need to push quite a fair bit to lock in the groove. Better to lock cam to the mount before sucking it to the windscreen.
    2. Turn off 'auto power off'.

  • Anyone can upload pic of the box? Just want to verify of the generic box is ok or not … and not imitation item.

    Thanks

    • +1

      http://imgur.com/a/iGZ29

Both boxes. The one on the left is from Gearbest, the one on the right is from a reputable ebay seller. Both had the same hardware and the cameras looked identical. However the boxes are slightly different as you can see. I have heard the G1WH's are made in multiple factories, which probably explains why the boxes are different.

  • +1

There's also a different mount if you don't want to use the suction cup mount:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331253415008

    • Good idea. Prefer it hidden behind the sun visor.
Bought two. One always maintains on the 'car' wallpaper screen, instead of video on screen, once the key ignition is turned on. I need to press the on/off switch, off then back on to start the video recordning.
Anyone has the same issue? Unsure if the dashcam is faulty, or it is the setup.

  • What is the general best settings to set? I have a 32gb card and do not do lots of driving during weekdays.

    • +2

I'd say leave it at 1080p (I suspect this is at 30fps). In my opinion, the ability to zoom in/magnify with clarity is more important than having a smooth video (eg. 60fps on 720p). I also don't see any need to have such long recording as I use it only to capture any accident that may eventuate, not to record my journey, hence no need to downgrade to 720p.

      • Thanks

How does the flash work? Can i switch it off esp. at night …
