What do you need:

A Roku box bought from the US. This is an important point as Roku has different firmware installed on each country’s device. So, if you bought one in the UK, that will not work for US channels and vice versa.

A compatible DNS service. It is important that your DNS service not only works with the Channels used by the Roku box, but also works during the set-up stage – not all do! This guide has been tested with Overplay’s SmartDNS service which works at both stages.

A Router which you can configure the DNS settings. Normally this can be done on the device itself, but the Roku box is one of the few streaming platforms that do not allow any network configurations.

  I see it says …

  A Roku account is free. However, payment information is required during setup to provide the convenience of making purchases from the Roku Channel Store on your TV. You will only be charged if you choose to make a purchase.

  But do I need a Roku account at all to use the device? Becasue I dont want to provide payment details 'just in case' I want to buy something. Hey Roku, how about you ask for it if and when I try to buy something.

    Yes you do. It's part of the registration process. You need a roku account to setup the device.

  Does this unit have a 110-250V power supply or do you need to purchase an additional power brick for it to work here?

    Works fine on 240v, just get a travel adapter. Mine has been working fine for months.

      Mine came with 110v only power supply. Had to buy this from eBay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231135297293. Marto, do you have Roku 3 as my Roku 2XS had 110-240v power supply and needed a travel Adapter only.

        There are a few mixed reports, according to this thread (I read first and last pages only) http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54982, the adapter is 240 compatible, but it seems Roku have had some labelled as 110 only. The specs of the actual part show it is really 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.5A.

  Seems sort of like a gymmick, lots of negative reviews because lots of the channels are region blocked. Plus it requires a roku account, with credit card information, just incase you make a purchase.

  No thanks. Seems like a money-making rort.

  What if i just want to plug my USB in and watch a movie? Oh wait, i need to give my information to some company, including credit card details. I'll be right.

  I'd prefer to just get a normal media player.

    The Roku is a great front end for Netflix and Hulu no gimmick here.
    Can you recommend a better unit?

    Yep you can plug your USB into your TV if you like.
