  • 3 has a better deal than Optus for sure

    • Where? I can't see it.

For an extra $10 per month you can get a new model 32GB 3GS with three or virgin with similar call / data inclusions.

  • Which Virgin deal?

Are you talking about the 70 Cap?

    • i think he's referring to an unadvertised virgin deal, available since last week from all stores. 20$ for the 32gb phone, 34$ for 300mb and 150$ of calls. and other variants of the same deal

  • pfff I pay $45 a month for 32gig 3GS with 1gig of downloads thanks to Three's loyalty discount.

    • isn't that on top of the phone bill itself at that price but? I'd check but three is down.

    • Thats pretty good, the standard price on the 3 website is $53 ($39 cap + $14).

      • 24 month contract though :S

    • PainToad - How did you get it for $45 a month? I been with three for like 6yrs…
      How much included calls?

      • As above, I'm pretty sure that that was just a handset repayment fee that is seperate to the actual phone plan. The $45 a month just included an additional 1GB of bonus data for whatever plan you had.

At least thats how I recall it….was on whirlpool and I recall the plan being very close to buying the phone outright from Apple which at $45 seems about right. I'd be suprised if his phone bill isn't higher than $45 all up, but I'm open to correction.

Anyway due to a pricing error my 32GB 3GS cost me $15 outright up on Vodafone. Heh. Their system got confused between 360 outright ontop of the plan and $15 a month and gave me it for a $15 outright one time payment instead on my $69 plan.

    • No that's $45 in TOTAL. $29 cap ($20 min spend) + $25 for the phone. Log into my3 and click 'upgrades'. Offer might not be still going, haven't looked.

      • well thats not bad at all then.

  • What's the coverage like on 3? Do they piggyback off the other carriers?

    • 3 have their own network (their own cell towers) but coverage isn't great, mainly in capital cities. They have some kind of roaming arrangement with Telstra for everywhere else with some restrictions.

lots of discussion there, but seems it may be hard to find stock.

32GB 3GS for $59/month on the "your internet 50" plan.
or 16GB 3GS for 49/month on the "your internet 34" plan.

Seems bogus to me if its not on the Virgin Mobile website.

if you bothered reading on, you would've seen that many people have indeed signed up onto these new plans in store with no problems.

once again, why would you get an older model for the same price as the newer model on a similar plan?

yeh but i'm not a loyalty customer…i am just someone who wants an Iphone without having to pay for overly large cap that I'll hardly use.

  • "3 has a better deal than Optus for sure"

3 don't have the 16Gb 3G iphone, well not at least on their website. They want $49/m for the 8Gb.

  • Sounds good to me. Tempted! Everyone else seems to have one.

I have an original 16GB iPhone 3G and someone at work just upgraded to 3GS and I seriously can't tell the difference. They look identical, the back of the new one doesn't even say "3GS". Seems like Apple are just trying to get ppl to pay more money for something not much different, hence why I think this deal is a good one.

      • The differences are all inside it, faster processor, more ram, better camera. It looks the same from the outside but you notice the difference when using it. Really no point paying for an obsolete model when the current one can be had for not much more and has nothing but improvements.

        • +1

Except you can pick up the obsolete model on ebay for under $500. Some people wouldn't care about the new features.

          • @winter: …you can probably buy a Nokia 5100 on eBay too. It probably has all the features iPhone owners want too.

Not sure about good deal or not but just FYI in term of security:
    http://www.theage.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/iphone-encrypt…

    • That's only if your phone gets stolen or something… It's not an over the air wireless hack or anything to be majorly worried about. They're just saying its hardly an improvement over the old iphone 3G software encryption.

  • Mmm its a good bargain compared to when I signed up. My contract is $22/month for the phone on a 49$ cap. Any ideas if they would let me swap over to the new deal? Even if I restart my contract?

computer says no. Anyway in another few months they will most likely be offering an even better deal. Thats just life.

After the recent Lifehacker post on iphone, i will never do any business with apple.

Interesting article - and raises some points which are US focused. And reading carefully you'll find other manufacturers also do things to protect alliances. EG Nokia without Mac apps because of MS dealings. If you are anti Apple then you'll be Anti Apple -If you are Anti MS you'll be Anti MS.

Whatever and as LifeHacker states - without the iphone , we'd all still be pressing multiple keys to find apps rather than moving from screen to screen with a simple swipe. The more Iphone sales the more the competition will have to try and not only copy, but innovate.

Vista is a great product BUT it only is because MS had to compete against Mac. Windows 3 was pathetic, then Win 95 got better Win 98 which many still use was acceptable and so on. And likewise Apple had to improve to fight back.

God help us, without the competition we'd all be typing things like copya:b or was it a:b?

      • Good point on competition.

I manage Unix and not a fan of MS, but i hate the concept of iphone where apple could wipe applications, restrictions like no turn by turn GPS and on developers.

      • double post, pls ignore

  • Save yourself headaches and be able to use the iPhones advanced features when and where you want. Buy it outright (or borrow to do so) then use Telstra pre-paid recharges. Post on whirlpool about this too. The high volume data plans used to market Optus plans may be appealing on the surface but just try to sustain a connection without it frequently dropping out!

    • Completely agree. When I got my iphone, it wasn't an option unfortunately, spent about a month trying to find somewhere with prepaid stock, with no luck. So I'm on a crappy optus contract - if at all possible, my advice is definitely to buy prepaid.
