YMMV but they wouldn't even accept their own branded gift card for me over the phone for this very iPad last week
It's a security issue they limit gift cards online and only really allow gift cards instore because it was a common scam a while back where people would basically grab the gift card details, scratch off some number so you can't use it, put them back, wait for someone to purchase it and they use it instead.
