Excellent deal if you need a card.

  • Centrecom's GB 280x are a better deal if your in vic

  • looking for a graphic card bargain around $150

    • There's a lot of second hand 7950/7970's (equivalent of 280/280x's) going for that price atm.
As long as you sus out who you're buying from (they haven't been killed in a mining rig) and how much of the warranty is remaining, they'll smash any other card in that price range.

      • where does one get this second hand you mentioned from?
        Thanks!

        • I got mine off OCAU forums classifieds section, its a pretty good community, most of the guys on there are pretty honest. But I think to access the buy/sell section on there you have to have been a member for at least a month.

Otherwise there's heaps on Ebay, you just need to make sure warranty hasn't been voided and there's no issues prior to buying.

Note; this differs internally from a 280X/7970 GE by having less ROPs and shader units (1792:112 vs 2048:128) and a smaller memory bandwidth (240GB/s vs 288GB/s).

This is not just a slower-clocked 280X. It's a lower tier card. It's 7000 series equivalent would be the Radeon 7950 Boost.

GPU manufacturers and confusing naming conventions; screwing you out of money since 1999!

    • I am definitely confused! Can I ask for your honest opinion, if I have a budget of say max $300, what is the best card for my money? My current PC that I got for free from work has i7 2.8ghz , 8gb ram, 1tb black caviar, GPU FirePro v4800 which unfortunately doesn't have an HDMI port.

I'm planning to sell my PS3 console and use this computer as a gaming PC/HTPC in the living room.
      Thanks!

      • For $300 there is no better price-performance sweet spot than the 280X.

Definitely wait for a price-drop on it like this, this, or this and then jump all over it like a caged dog onto an exposed leg.

        What model is the i7?

        • Its an intel core i7 870 at 2.93ghz (I mentioned 2.8, I was wrong)

  • Also available at more locations at MSY.
