MSY Patriot USB/OTG 16GB $9 32GB $15 64GB $35

700

32GB seems like the sweet spot. Not sure how good these are but am planning to grab one and find out.

Price for 32GB should be $15, not $32.

    • $32 would be expensive.

  • +1

You seem to have the 32Gb price wrong. I think it's $15, which makes your sweet spot claim a lot more logical :-)

    • yeah, thanks to icecreambandit for fixing my typo

  • are they any good? whats the read/write speed on them?
I'm thinking to use it as a quick storage for Wii U, so USB2.0 sounds perfect.

    • It's right there in the image:
      16GB: up to 80 Mbps
      32GB and 64GB: up to 140 Mbps

I own these from a previous sale.

      here's a quick test on a USB 3.0 port:
      16GB write 9.32 read 54.4
      32GB write 15.0 read 65.3
      64GB write 21.7 read 66.2

        Megabytes or megabits?

        • +2

          Megabytes / sec

        • +2

lol! i can't believe you got negged, multiple times, for a legit technical question.

Either folks are such experts that they think it is painfully obvious… or so stupid that they don't understand, and don't want to understand, the question!

@Son ofa Zombie: I know mate there are some real douchebags on OzB these days.

        • @sebby: Thanks for clarifying.

  • lol was wondering what the sweet spot was. in that case- SOLD
edit. shipping kills this, cant they just put it in a envelope and whack a stamp on it

    • +3

then it goes missing in the mail and people start to blame all kinds of sht.

Got a 64GB from last sale
    Benchmarks looked promising
And it is the best usb ive used so far

    • 4K random reads / writes as well? I found some optimised for sequential reads/writes but quite poor for random reads/writes.

I used to have the blue/white patriot usb 2, before the spring mechanism broke.
Upgraded to Sandisk usb 3.0 extreme dongle, and writes at around 50mb/s.
Anything less than 10mb is frustrating, especially as size goes up.

according to the figure, there is a small black box attached to the usb driver, can anyone tell me what it is?

  • Amazon Reviews of what I think is a very similar unit for those interested - seems to be quite positive:

I got one of the 64gb from Amazon early this year. Good unit, works with nexus 5 and 7 (rooted).

    • +2

You can use them on Android devices unrooted.

Just need to pay $3 for 'Nexus Media Launcher'.

But yes i would root the device over $3 :p

  • I've some patriot express USBs for a while and they seem pretty good. Ordered a couple of spares JIC though. :)

$15 shipping? Also, have to register to get shipping costs. Sux!

    • really

  • +3

the usb itself cost 15$ for the 32GB version.

But, i have to pay another 12$ for the postage, wtf? I saw they have a WA store, however, i dont have a car.

Still, i dont think it would cost that much for this get delivered from NSW to WA…

    • +1

Pay an ozbargainer to buy and send in an envelope. Say around $10

    • I just got one from the Balcatta store, could've got you one but they're closed for today :)

    • -1

You should save for a car!

  • I've had a 64gb one of these for a few months now, works great with good speeds. Very handy for transferring files between my phone/tablet and work computers and vice versa

  • OK, who 'reserved' the last 32GB in stock at North Melb ???
I was 'forced' to get the 64GB to save having wasted a trip..didn't bother ringing becasue I've never seen them answer the phone, normally too busy serving cutomers

    • +1

      it was me, sorry

      • +2

lucky I'm a compulsive truth-teller; as I drove away I thought "hey I should have just said "yeah, that was me I rang earlier"

        • Wonder why suddenly so popular. Last time they had the stellar XT on sale when I turned up there were heaps of stock. Loving it though. Makes copying files a breeze and I use it to store videos I watch on the train.

  • Picked up a 32 gb at Cheltenham. Thx OP!

  • 32gb out of stock at Clayton store :(

  • Just picked up a 64gb one from the Balcatta store in WA. Thanks Op!

  • There are a few 32GB ones left at the Pascoe Vale store. I copied 1.5GB of wallpapers to it (individual files and a tar of the directory). Speed was 16-18MB/s (MBP with USB 3). Seems a bit slow for USB 3

    • That's very odd and would most likely be your PC at fault.

I was getting 40-45MB/s on mine.

  • it seems 32 and 64 out at Nunawadding.

just another sale @ the mitcham store…..get less than a handful of anything on special.

If your not aftet micro usb…Pny from Amazon….$ per GB is cheaper, and faster, but pny brand and not local and not micro, so this is very good too…

Edit damit tried to+ from the phone but accidently begged, now I can't plus…

    • +1

It's a terrible feature of OzB, for mobile users. YEARS, and still not fixed.

Seems you've got bigger problems :D

  • Do dongles like these require their own apps on android, or will any file manager be able to see what's on them?

    • +1

Any file manager app or teh default OS ones work fine with these.

Just need to format the USB teh first time you plug it into your tablet/phone.

  • Yes these work great. Perfect for tablets/mobile use for sharing/transferring data and the USB 3 transfer speeds are excellent for PC use.

Past two times they've had this sale they are always out of stock of the 64GB model.

  • +1

just went to mitcham store, they dont have any

  • Ultimo store has plenty of 32GB and 64GB.

    • Ordered the 32 GB from Ultimo a few hours ago. Just received an email with the subject "Sorry out of stock" and in the text "Sorry out of stock", nothing else lol

      • I was there at 2. Maybe they went bothered with such a small sale?

        • Well no difference between in-store and online order. They just have to grab one, print the invoice and wait for me that I pick it up.

  • I ordered one on Sunday for pickup in store, but still no further notification from MSY
