          product just hurting local retail anyway.

          Like it or not globalisation is inevitable, Amazon is moving here, Newegg now ships here, and Alibaba has plans to take over the world move overseas. Local retailers will get crushed eventually by these giant corporations.

          You want to protect the Australian economy? Go write a letter to Abbott and tell him to stop the 457 visa loophole.

        • letting foreigners buying local properties also hurting the price. let govt knows, it's not investment!!

        • @scrimshaw: What is the loophole in 457 visa?

          @bargainaus:

          see discussion at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2227544

          Basically workers on the 457 visa are sliding in and being employed by local companies here to save money. They (the 457's) will generally work their ass off and will gladly accept lower salaries. From time to time many businesses will either prefer to let the 457's stay by extending their renewing the visa or converting them to PR.

          The main problem is that businesses now have no limit to the number of 457's they can process, and are abusing the system by filling roles with foreign workers, getting rid of well paid technical roles and are not interested in accepting fresh uni graduates.

          Going by stats there are roughly 30% of university graduates who cannot find full time work in their preferred field after completing their degree:

        • @scrimshaw: thanks for the summary, was about to give a TL;DR comment.

      Because this is a 16GB version, and it is not sold in Australian stores.

    • It's also grey in Australia. Gray is American :)

    Delivery adds $22.99 for me. So $22.99 + $199 (8Gb is $209 oddly) for the 16Gb from Kogan grey import v $224 DSE 8Gb(can click collect + manufacturer local warranty). Tough call (id personally get the more expensive 4G version atm…Kogan doesnt offer it)

    Dick Smith is a disgrace, they have done away with their no-questions-asked returns policy after Woolworths flogged them off. Not sure if they still pay royalties to 'Dick' for usuing his ugly head motif on their storefronts.

    • A friend told me DSE is apparently making money again after they got offloaded by Woolworths fwiw…

        Yeah, but the service is atrocious. If im buying local, service is the differentiator. If it stays the way it is, those profits will be shortlived.

        • do you want to send the items back to china?;)

        • no more than agree mate, could not believe in my eking eyes that I was not treated like a 'loyal' customer after spending almost 10k for mac products there: a apple wired keyboard (with numeric, which has to purchase separately) has few keys stop working (5tgb), it was just over 13 months hence Dick decided to do nothing even I stated the Australian Consumer Law blah blah. So disappointed that I took it to Apple Asia Pacific headquarter, only took me 20' to have a brand-new keyboard with express post to me 2 days later, no hassle at all. Conclusion, unless there is really a deal, not more Dick Dick to me, would rather support others.

  • I have one, nice phone. Delivery from Kogan is slow.
